This movie is theatrical art and Oscar worthy, not like the make believe superheroes hanging from cables next to green screens. This is true art imitating life.
I loved it and I thought the runtime was exactly what it needed to be. Also- it was under 2 hours which is kind of a miracle, especially for films nominated for best picture.
Watched it last night on amazon. It's a great comedy for people who don't like comedies my wife) Due to the ending, I can't really say it followed a formula either 2+2 = 4,5 OR 6. It is a nice surprise, I thought. Worth the watch, even if it is 2 hours.
My mom and I just finished this (hence why Im looking at american fiction explained videos) We were really into too until the ending. It was a good movie but would've preferred a different ending.
If the modern hipster is not a white liberal . I think it will be a hit . If they are , then they would be talking negatively about it like the host of this video .
That's because he is one of those white liberals this movie is really about . The ones that want crime ridden cities and McDonald's are the white liberals . The side story of him and his family is heavy duty . But the white liberals are the publishers and agents .
Hey Adam, I totally agree with you. I loved it all the way to the ending, and then it ended and I was like "oh, oh okay that's it." And also like what the fuck. I've thought about it for awhile, and the ending isn't what I wanted but it has me thinking why, and I play it over in my head in different ways. It feels weak, but damn it gets me thinking, and I kinda like that. Still wish we had closure though, why's it our job 😂
"pandering" it's the white liberal way . I saw this movie yesterday . The movie is making fun of white liberals . They are the publishers and agents that want the cletias . If you are a liberal , you will not see that white liberals are experts in the back experience .
Im bipoc. The film had good acting. Just thought it was a bit too subtly preachy and even slightly dated in its premise. Also there are 2 plots going on that feel disjointed.
Cause at the end of the day, bills gotta get paid. Black folks can't afford to take a moral highground on what is a very subjective topic: What is art? 😄
I kinda felt it was gonna be this way. Being a black man and a writer I kinda resent this movie... I knew it wasn't gonna be good because theres nothing to say and the people who are trying to say something have nothing to say...
Dude. You are a writer and that wasn't very clear. What are you trying to say? Also, the movie is based on a book called ERASURE by Percival Everett. So, maybe a comparison between the two is needed, too?
No, No, No. It's the kind of movie that eats your soul. . . which is so strange because the cast is beautiful. My only remedy before (and after) watching "American Fiction" was to catch Armond White's interview bout it. I swear. Movie is poison. You'll need some type of antidote. P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if it's embedded with crazy subliminal messages. Beyond the appearance something was definitely off about it.

Since the premise of the movie concerns an ongoing debate, I thought the ending was extremely realistic. iykyk

Congrats on 73k! Good review Adam, haven’t heard of the film. Everyone share out his channel so he can get 100k!
Adam's so underrated. Hes so much better then the reg youtube bs reviewer.
@@jk-gt9dv agreed. I like the comedy and the realness to his channel
I was surprised to see the Orion logo for this movie, just as I was surprised to see Miramax attached to The Holdovers.
Adam. You are 100% on target.
👍

I felt the same way about the ending.
The movie was great, until the ending showed up.
Exactly how I felt about this movie. Couldnt have said it better.. It ALMOST had me..

@@santosmadrigal3702 equating a person's film tastes to their political views is kinda nuts, but I guess it makes a lil sense.
@@LeagueofThieves there is a method to my madness ... If and when you see this film you'll know what I'm talking about .
Oh-rye-yun. Not Oreo-un
That's how I pronounce the constellation. Aren't you glad it wasn't Cassiopeia
If I read the ending/s right, Monk pretty much sells out, which robs the film of much critical punch.
I love this move and I really enjoy this commentary, but it's definitely NOT spoiler free 😂
Well you didn't piss me off today! Kudos! 😂🎉
this review rly "bummed" me out

Why do you qualify the fact that you’re a bipoc? Do you want a fucking prize or something?
Am I the only one that was reminded of Woody Allen by this movie?
Me too
Terrific review. I've seen various trailers shown but I finally took a hard nix from your spot-on commentary. Thanks!
I'd have sold out without hesitation

WTF are you talking about?
You're a writer and you couldn't properly articulate your point and you didn't see what the movie is trying to say from just the trailer alone?

I ❤ you dude, but it's pronounced o-ri-on - I used to work for them.
I didn’t even know that’s what he was trying to say. “Oreon” is what I heard.
They did this story in South Park
Looks boring 😂
