Sports Talk Baseball is the king of baseball games on the Genesis.
I put a solid 500 hours or so into sportstalk baseball. By far my favorite of all of these!
Sports Talk baseball was the only videogame ive ever been able to convince my dad to play with me, so that'll always be my number 1.
I loved Tommy Lasorda's Baseball. If that had real teams and rosters, that game would have been on another level.
I thought TLB had an MLB license...Mandella effect?
@@mattm7798It has real cities. The teams don't have names though, they just have a logo. The logos and colors for the teams are similar to the MLB teams but not the real thing. The rosters are made up players.
Me too
I liked Tony LaRussa baseball, one of the few games where the wind affected the ball and fielding spot.
RBI Baseball 4 was my go-to baseball game…what a great time to be a kid back in the 90s.
World Series Baseball and its sequels were fun games as well, enjoyed those.
Great game
Hardball 94 was my jam. Creating custom teams and editing players was OP.
Hardball was one of the first PC games I'd ever played alongside Leisure Suit Larry, solid series of baseball games. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
Finally someone giving love to Tecmo Super Baseball. Fielding is simple, if fly ball look bottom right, u are blinking cursor & go to the X. Full season stat tracking. I believe more realistic than Triple plays or sports talk where final scores are in the 20`s. My #1
Appreciate the comment and the gameplay tip. Ya, Tecmo surprised me, they didn't make the best Hockey game but they did a solid job with their baseball title. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
World Series baseball on the Saturn was amazing.
I still own Hardball for the Commodore! Best baseball game ever IMO despite its limitations.
If I had to take an educated guess my brother and I played around 10000 games of Tommy Lasorda baseball in the early 90s. The fake players names made you kinda love the guys . Each game took maybe 15 minutes . Great days !
What’s with all these baseball games cue Jerry Seinfeld music @ 13:20
Born and living here in the UK, baseball games were few and far between on my Genesis (Megadrive in Europe). Also, you had the region lock, so that limited playing all the titles here. So it left Big Hurt Baseball, which I found at the time really good and enjoyable. Now I play all the others on Android and PC through emulators. So I can now see what all the others played like 😊😊
Big Hurt played well and looked amazing, could have been worse I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
Surprisingly Big Hurt Baseball looks better on Genesis/MD than it does on SNES in my opinion.
World Series Baseball '95 is the best Genesis baseball game hands down
100% agree. This, Sports Talk football 93, Madden 97, Coach K NCAA basketball, DreamTeam USA basketball, and NBA Live 97 were my childhood sports titles. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours spent playing just those. Now, I play no sports titles. Sports games were just so much better back n the day
Absolutely
@@saymojaymo4025all facts.. I loved all of those games you mentioned
💯
The first sports talk baseball was my favorite they didn’t have the real team names but they did have the real players and most of their original stances at the plate.
Facts
It's not Sega, but one of the first websites I remember as a kid was Candystand. It was the people who made Lifesavers. They had a bunch of sports games in it. The HR derby and strike out challenge was very addicting.
I liked the original Hardball on Commodore 64 that Screwball pitch was wicked
Great video and breakdown. Like the Seinfeld music 🤣
The original RBI Baseball for Nintendo was great and then it went downhill.
Iono, I thought RBI 2 and 3 were really good for the NES.
RBI 2/3 are the best for NES World Series baseball for Genesis
I had no idea they made a World Series Baseball 1998 for Sega Genesis. Or that people were still playing the genesis up through 1998. That was playstation era
World Series Baseball 98 was the 7th last game to see the light of day on the Genesis so that'd make sense. I would have been playing PS1 at my friends house and bugging my mom for an N64 by this time :D
I was still playing my Sega Genesis during 1998. The next gen of gaming (Sega Saturn and Playstation) didn't start in America till later in 1995 and I was a late adopter to the new consoles since my family didn't want to buy a new console (parents had tons of money, but they were cheap. LOL), so I kept playing my Sega Genesis (and I picked up a new Sega CD for only $40 and a new 32X for only $20 since both of those were on clearance sales by 1997). I got my first job during summer of 1998 at a high class golf course (super easy job with some very high tippers giving me $100 bills for very little work) and bought myself a brand new Nintendo 64 during August and a used Sega Saturn during October 1998 (the Sega Saturn was already dead at that point, but I still wanted it. I'm happy I got it since I got all it's rare games at the time for dirty cheap. For example, I picked up a brand new copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for only $35 during October 1998. That game is worth thousands of dollars now). However, once stores near me stopped carrying Sega Saturn games by early 1999 I eventually got a Playstation 1 during mid 1999.
Anyway,
Despite owning the newer consoles, I kept playing Sega Genesis (used game stores near me still had copies of used Sega Genesis games till about 2001. After that they stopped carrying them and that's when I gave the Genesis a break. I still play it at least once a year in recent years. World Series Baseball 98 was one of my Sega Genesis games when it first released and it was fun.
Love the NBA Jam soundtrack
Nothing beats R.B.I. 94
Sega Genesis was (and still is) an outstanding baseball console! Some of my favorites are:
RBI Baseball series
World Series Baseball series
2020 Super Baseball
Sports Talk Baseball
MLBPA Baseball
Tony LaRusa Baseball
For me it's Triple Play Gold, and I've played 23 of the 25 games over my old man years. Triple Play just had everything I wanted in a baseball game and to this day is the baseball game I've sunk the most hours into .
I really enjoyed the triple play series and it comes just behind the world series ones.
I was big on sim type games, and even though I enjoyed sports talks but it was a fun game to pick up and play but ranks behind the others for me. I am bigger on sim vs arcade type
@@Ozzie314 Nothing wrong with that! We all have our preferred playstyle, afterall.
The original world series baseball was my favorite. The ref, crowd and announcer sounded the best.
Hey man, thanks for the nostalgic video, good stuff. Just my opinion, i think you should add in the gameplay sounds and get rid of that music. I paused video to type this at 0:39 lol
It may be an original but I still think Tommy Lasorda's baseball is one of my favorites👍
love to hear opinions that's the beauty of these lists, is that one you owned personally or what do ya like about it vs other Genesis baseball games? Thanks for watching and commenting :D
@@RetroSunday it was definitely nostalgia when half my little league team would be crowded around my friends downstairs TV with no shirts on cause we just got swimming in the pool at his house after practice 5th/6th grade. Tommy Lasordas blew our minds since it was still in 89, great fond times
I agree. I remember having a lot of fun with that game. Similar to RBI Baseball for Nintendo it was a good game to play against someone else. I feel like a lot of the later baseball games had stiff controls and slow gameplay.
My friend and I used to play a baseball game on Genesis, and the one aspect that I remember was that you had the choice of three different stadiums to choose from, at least in head-to-head mode. Would you happen to know which game this might be?
Sport talk baseball
Tony larussa 95 was the best for me.
All of the World Series baseball games should be in the top 5. The game played smooth and looked way better than all other titles.
The chronological order of the RBI Baseball franchise used to confuse me. I couldn't figure out why RBI 93 looked so much better than my version until I figured out I had RBI 3, not '93 as in the year. Derr😅
lol you're not alone it confused me for a second also :)
RBI Baseball series was so good. Played a ton of 93 and 94.
I'd say the best 3 IMO are: Hardball '95 (solid all-around and you can fully edit all the teams including names, logos, and rosters), Triple Play Gold (another game that plays great, season mode is done very well and it had the ability to create a player), then World Series '98 (for good gameplay)
Triple Play Gold you could use player names from the past like Ruth or whoever and it would actually create them for use plus their elite skills much like the nba live 96 name cheats
Man you crazy unless I missed it. How didn't you have sports talk baseball on this list and close to the top I might add. Great baseball ⚾ game back in the day
5:31
Awesome pick for #1. I just did a video on MLBPA Baseball not too long ago, one of my favorite games ever. And I agree, the gameplay is just is smooth and easy. Not the best looking title, but its a ton of fun
Just a couple of MLBPA fan boys over here :D Cool channel, subbed I'll check it out this weekend when I have more time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@RetroSunday same! Sounds good 👍
Sweet man
Super Baseball 2020 is one of my favorite games ever made!! It’s super fun either against the CPU or (especially) against a friend.
Hardball III and 94 were my favorites.
crazy how good these looked at the time 😂
Good job thanks !! Segaaaaaaaa ! ;)
I have no idea who Tony La Russa is but I'll never forget his name. Growing up in a baseball family this was my favourite sports game on the Genesis
Coach of the Oakland A's during the '80s & 90 Smash Brothers era (Canseco and McGwire, Ricky Henderson). He went on to coach the St Louis Cardinals in the 2000s.
Man, everyone always hating on Roger Clemens Baseball. That game was so much better than people give it credit.
WS 95 was legit the best on the list.
I had Triple Play 95, and i loved that uou could trade and create players, but goddang it if that wasn't one of the hardest games to hit on.
agree. I loved Roger Clemens baseball. I have fond memories playing against my friends. It had a cool feature where if the play was close at base- it would be zoomed in and you had to choose which way to slide/which way to tag.
Love the music here. What's it from??
I loved R.B.I. baseball especially
94 that was great year for games
With Madden and NHL 94
All classics
Tommy Lasorda is ranked way too low.
Tripple play was that right after RBI
La Russa '95 was awesome. Use to create a team from the one of the All-star teams and switch them out.
Wow, this brought back tons of memories. I played LOTS of these games, but I definitely remember Roger Clemens Baseball and the Hardball games to be so weird looking or not fun to play. Sports Talk Baseball has to be top 5 for being the first baseball game with an announcer. Does anyone remember the secret HR hitter in World Series Baseball 1 on the Reds' bench?
Hardball III and triple play 96 are 2 of the best!
Sports talk #1
World series #2
RBI #3
Tommy the soda #4
Sports talk was ahead of its time
Mid 90s world series baseball was the best.
I loved hardball, i created my own team and played a full season
@7:27 "welcome to nba jam" theme music
Triple play 96' was the best. I also played the crap out of "Sports-talk Baseball". Although the "talk' part had a hard time keeping up with the action on the field. It was however, the first of its kind, having dialog throughout the game. Barry Bonds(on "Sports-Talk"), was the equivalent of Bo Jackson on Techmo Bowl. Best rank for Speed, Power and Average in the game.
I hard hardball from day one. It was a pc game first. Expansion stadium disks made it a hall of famer.
Baseball 2020 or nothing, I’ve spoken
Are there any Genesis baseball games that showed teams brawling?
Genesis baseball games with brawling? Not that I'm aware, no Super High Impact or Mutant League baseball-like games so I'd say no. Just did a football ranked list with 38 games, definitely contact in those games lol. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
@@RetroSunday thanks for responding! I was wondering if like a team gets plunked too many times the teams will leave their bunches and fight as sometimes happens in real games
@@BryanTruongRBI baseball 93 would have a little brawl cutscene if you hit a team once too often
@@taysb2220 thanks! I'll check that out
I don’t think so. I had all those games at one time or another and don’t recall any fighting.
Huge fan of triple play 96
Me too. I infamously did not like the first person view mode for some reason so always played it from the fielding level and loved it. The fact it must have had a battery save because the players stats would change from at bat to at bat, even after turning off and on the genesis. Tons of hours in that game.
I wanted games that kept season stats so World Series Baseball was my top choice
5:25 how big is that outfield?! 😆
Say it with me y'all: Say-gah. It ain't Segg-ah.
Tommy Lasorda is the greatest baseball game ever (Purely nostalgic reasons)
IMO Triple Play BB and World Series BB were better than MLBPA. Both in gameplay and the fact that I know Triple play had a save feature where your players stats would be saved.
hardball 94 i remember well being good...! i dont remember most of these , and alot of them are really bad and look same! there was another baseball game that must have been on sega genesis, it was in magazines , i think you could slide and dive into the bag or something like that, and game was very smooth and was awesome when hit a homer , i can never think of what name was !
It’s not a capacitor issue that ruins the cart it’s most likely the cart itselfs trace routing. I fixed a grind stormer which has the problem too by fixing traces
My assumption was capacitor, especially because one of the versions had a leaking one but I appreciate the info! Can you explain to me "Trace Routing" for Sega Genesis games and how to fix them so I could try myself sometime if this problem appears again? Thanks for watching and commenting :D
@@RetroSunday there are two failures of genesis carts one is with the vias(the metal rings connecting a trace from one side to the other) on tengen carts. You need to check continuity to all pins from each trace to each chip and to each via to make sure all are connected. I fixed one by scraping the blue solder resist(coating) off the via and running a cap leg through. Another main failure in any cart is that the roms actually have protection diodes inside them to protect voltages and when they die the cart won’t work. There is a video on CZcams showing the fix of addding resistors to the lines. Let me know if you ever fix one!
@@threwanade I used to work at a video game store and learned a lot about bringing controllers, consoles and games back to life but I've never been aware of these methods you've mentioned until now so I very much appreciate the info. When you say "run a cap leg through" you mean poke a capacitor leg through the hole just for cleaning purposes? Also, when I get some time this off season (December or so) I'll go through some non-working carts and make a video, I'll be sure to message you when it comes out or if you sub with notifications on you'll be notified when it's live. Thanks again, have a good rest of your week! :D
Tony Larussa 95 was a good game but for some reason you couldn't play a Season Schedule on it.
Hardball 3 was my game
World Series baseball... real stadiums. All I have to say.
Ya gotta boost the volume on your voiceover track. Can barely hear you especially if game music comes on you get completely drowned out.
What's interesting is so many of these games seem to have the MLB license but the players are wearing generic uniforms with no words or logos.
13:20-13:59 sounds like the Seinfeld theme
it is lol, remixed by Iceferno.
@@RetroSunday appropriate….i wonder if Kieth Hernandez spits (allegedly) on virtual fans Newman and Kramer in this game 😂😂😂😂
To answer your question about RBI baseball RBI baseball for you RBI baseball 3 was one my favorite and I owned it when I'm growing up and I enjoyed enough that I bought a complete copy of a a few years back
Also super baseball 2020 is one of my favorites too that I had growing up and it was really fun to play And I have a cart only copy of it now as well
Also thank you for the respect for MBLPA BASEBALL I think that's one of the better baseball games for me Genesis and super Nintendo in my opinion but Ken Griffey Jr presents for your league baseball on a super Nintendo is better though than mlbpa for the super Nintendo is good but I could be wrong
Thank you for your content sir and I hope you're having a good dayv and have a great rest of your week
God bless you and your family
God bless you
Jeremy Scruggs
Roger Clemons baseball was not bad at all in my opinion
oof, after watching this all I can think is Sega may have nailed the other sports with games like Sensible Soccer and the Fifa Series, NBA Jam and NBA Live series, along with Joe Montana and Madden football games but their baseball lineup is really weak! World Series 96 and 98 were the two games my friends and I played the most and I'm not sure they're better than some of the NES baseball games. They may be more accurate but not more fun. Good video though. Also interesting to see all the celebrity endorsed games at the bottom of the list.
There was also Reggie Jackson Baseball
Reggie Jackson Baseball was on the Sega Master System, not the Genesis.
Sorry, I owned both systems 35 years ago, and probably 2/3s of all those games. They sort of blend into one another
What in the world is going on with the audio in this vid? And ranking MLBPA #1 is hilarious.
This would have better a lot better with a human voice instead of an AI bot voice
Sega was better than snes in almost all sports except baseball in my opinion. I don't think any of those games were better than ken griffey baseball
World series was way too easy to play. Hitting HRs was much too easy.
There are no good Sega Genesis baseball games
Tony Larussa baseball is the worst game of all time it's difficult to win u lose all the time and it's not fun that's way I switched to rbi baseball 93 and it's fair to win or lose
9:29 - Loved it!
World series '98. Best ever.
