Top 10 Cards that Share a Name with a Keyword

- One of the side effects of Magic coming up with so many keywords over the years is that sometimes, a card will be printed with the exact same name as one of those keywords. This, in and of itself, isn’t all that interesting of a detail. However, there are way more of these cards than you’d think at first glance, and more than enough that asking the question of which of these cards is the best becomes a compelling one. Today, we’re going to take a look at these coincidentally named cards and see which of them has had the biggest impact on the game

Honorary mention: Lifelink, an enchant creature that gives Lifelink and was released when the keyword was made.
Fear and Vigilance as well.
But I guess this list is not about enchantments that give the keyword that is in the card name.
@@schwarzerritter5724 And Flight.
@@schwarzerritter5724 No its a top 10 list, and those enchants arent top 10 worth i would assume.
i will say, it would be neat if someone did a "master list" of all such cards. Though i'm more interested in the cards that explain a keyword like Vampiric Link where the text could just be replaced by literally a keyword.
@@schwarzerritter5724 Indeed, though I would like to point out that the actual Vigilance mechanic has been around since Alpha, and thus predates both the keyword and the card.
Explore is also a much better topdeck late in the game as it essentially cycles while Rampant growth only gets you another land
Yeah explore is likely a better card, the only upside rampant growth has that is in limited it might let you cut a land when your running it.
Lovely idea !
Following the train: "Cards that get better the more you put in a deck" (like, Rite of Flame, which is a pity to be limited to 4 copies in a deck)
Similarly, "Cards you want the fewer as possible (min 1)"
Just wanna say, stifle effects are very good in formats like modern and timeless. Countering your opponents fetchland is absurdly powerful
Playing slower control decks in MKM and OTJ limited has really given me an appreciation for life gain. After a million lightning fast formats with crazy aggro decks, MKM finally gave us a bunch of midrangey creatures with life gain stapled on to them and they all overperformed. Looking at you, Vitu-Ghazi inspector
It has begun
Crime and punishment, punishment... and crime, IN THE HALL!!!
I wonder if you can do a top 10 of cards that share a name with a Magic the Gathering set?
As cool as that would be, the number 1 spot on that list is probably just Urza’s Saga
i don't think there's enough cards to even make ten cards for such a list even with how many sets of MTG there is.
@@MageSkeleton
Apocalypse, Conflux, Urza’s Saga, Mirrodin Besieged, The Brothers’ War, Time Spiral, Throne of Eldraine, Onslaught, Hour of Devastation, Conspiracy, Shadows of the Past, Planar Chaos
@@CreepyPastaSalad honorable mention to March of the Machines. It's got an extra 's', but this list included crime/commit a crime
@@greatbrandini3967 I’d lump in “All will be One,” too, even though it is missing everything before the colon of the set name it matches.
Flash was also erratad multiple times. It used to not put the creature into play unless you payed the cost, when it was changed to what it is now is when it became busted.
Text(6th+errata): Choose a creature card in your hand. You may pay its mana cost reduced by up to {2}. If you do, put that card into play. If you don't, put that card into your graveyard. [Oracle 2003/02/01]
That was probably one of the 'functional' balancing changes that they tried, because the original printing is functionally the current wording, but with a whole lot more words.
Example of Explore being good early game: the Kiora prebuilt in the Elspeth VS Kiora Duel Decks.
Fabricate was AMAZING in mirrodin block. You got access to the artifact you need. Skull clamp to get card advantage, Cranial plating, or your Ravager to finish the game.
Fabricate was also a land tutor in Mirrodin block too, due to the artifact lands.
Now do "cards that share a name with a set" like Conflux and Apocalypse.
Amazing!!!!!
Stifle and stifle like effects should 100% be played more. Negating an ability is much stronger than people seem to understand (at least in mtg, ygo players probably know how good it is)
Agreed. We do see Tishana’s tide binder seeing play in multiple formats now
@@justinmathis8078 stopping even one thing an opponent does, even temporarily, is so strong. Especially in multiplayer. Wild that a lot of people overlook effects like that
You haven't lived until you've stifled an opponents turn 2 fetchland and gotten an insta scoop
As much as I agree with you, Stifle doesnt see play due to its opportunity cost. If you dont have an ability thats worth countering, then its a dead card. Counter spells are always valuable at all times, to the point that if its revealed that you have one in hand, your opponent must play around it.
@vDeadbolt I get where you are coming from, but in the world we live now everything is commander. Usually multiplayer. There will be few and far between situations where it will be a dead card in hand vs multiple opponents. Although yes you do run that risk when you play cards like stifle.
Undying should had been featured alongside Persist as they are basically different takes on two very similar keywords.
Crime/Punishment is a three color spell not a two color.
Would be cool if you wouldn't mind doing a list of cards that "explain a keyword" without actually using the keyword. i've been looking to collect such cards and i'm sure there's more than 10 of them. Edgar's Awakening for example, it's "madness" without being the keyword.
Edgar's Awakening does have different effect when triggered off of discarding, though - and it isn't exiled
Crime//Punishment is a 3 colour card, but you only cast one of the two spells printed on it - people are only casting the 2 colour Punishment
Wait, since when did you have a mtg channel
Flash the mechanic doesn't come up rarely. It's like an evergeen keyword now
Let's go out of our way to make cards with Keyword name so we get another video!
Only 2 of these cards do anything close to what the keyword does.
Hulk is way worse than Flash. There are still turbo Hulk decks, they just have to entomb reanimate instead. Without Hulk, flash was a niche tech piece but didn't end games
Persist is my favorite
Replicate is just multikicker...
Most cast related keywords are just variations on Kicker
@@drmajalis1583 Except horsemanship.
@@MageSkeletonhorsemanship isn't a cast related trigger...
Everything is Kicker, Pally.
Haha. True, there are a lot that are kicker or multikicker. Splice onto arcane, buyback... Flashback is kinda different but it's pretty much just a delayed kicker cost.

Is this dude really gonna go a whole video without mispronouncing every other card?
