Disney really missed the boat on MMC. Instead of putting the 5 best singers (Jennifer, Nita,Matt, JC and Tony) or the 5 most marketable (Jenn,Rhona,Tony,Jc and Ricky/Dale) in a group and promoting the best song on the CD (Hanging on for dear life) they used real talk and left out three of the best singers in their first video Everyone loved Hanging on for dear life as the favorite song and Disney ignored it altogether. Whoever was in charge never did this CD justice
I was at the Cleveland concert, which determined if they would do the tour, 5000 people were crammed into a tiny 3 story mall. I had seen the show taped too at MGM, but nothing compared to being at that concert to see them perform the entire album. I still have the autographs I got and the Real Talk single cassette tape. My parents grew up on the original show and I never missed an episode on tv of the 90's version.
To This day, I STILL Listen to the MMC Album, and everyone who came from the show, still, My faves on the album are I Saw Her First, Let's Get Together, Flava, Step to the Rhythm, Merry Go Round, and STILL LOVE the Movie "My Boyfriend's Back" because Hanging On For Dear Life is in the end! (and cuz it's an obscure zombie movie!!!) My whole musical growth came from MMC covers and Album songs... I had Two Princes stuck in my head (before the internet was big yet) and it was stuck in my head 2 years before I found out it was Spin Doctors! JC voice in my head 2 years because I didn't want to let go of the song!! I am so happy to see everyone from the show Growing so much! Love You All! PS DALE you are a FREAKIN GENIOUS!! JUST POSTING this and me watching made me remember let's GET TOGETHER!! #MaskedRabbit #MaskedSinger is TOTALLY JC!! he says "Reach Out take me by the hand, Follow Me to WONDERLAND!" who do you follow to wonderland? the Freakin WHITE RABBIT!! I auditioned for the last season in Dallas. Jessica Simpson and one of my best friends (her mom was the owner of my dance studio) made it to the final auditions in Orlando. Neither made it...and my friend became a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader after an unsuccessful year in LA and some shows that Matt Casella couldn't get her. Dale, when we auditioned Audrea (my friend) was third in line and he jokingly said, "We already have a guy from Plano! Why do we need another cast member from there?!"
I think the album was about 2 years too early...just ahead of its time. On another note, when I watched this video back in the day I always noticed Tony's drawing of a mid-drift around his school desk when they were joking about being good students. :)
The CD had potential to be a success but Disney just just didn't do things the right way. It should have been more ran like the Party and had 5 or 6 main members. Instead the first video didn't even feature the core singers. HO4DL should have been released as a single. Everyone loved it back in the day. Even if you had the 8 members that could really sing and Ricky for rap it would have made more sense.
