Yob at Hoverfest (complete)

- čas přidán 4. 09. 2014
- Here, in one file, is the most moving footage I have ever captured. Period. It's Mike, Travis, and Aaron doing what they do best--blowing our motherlovin' minds with transcendental metal that opens up a universe of sound and reminds us of how small we are in the grander scheme of things (and yet, with lives that are of infinitesimal value). YOB is about life on the quantum level, the unseen that makes the real manifest. Ok, enough with this philosophy bullshit, here's the set-list:
1. Quantum Mystic
2. In Our Blood
3. Kosmos
4. Unmask The Spectre
5. Adrift In The Ocean
Recorded by yours truly. Credit to Billy Anderson for the sound mix (which I caught peripherally), to Hovercraft Amplifiers and Cravedog for putting on the event, and to Southern Cross PR for spreading the good word about town. Most of all thank you to Mike and the boys, without which this profound music would not be possible!

a concert in front of a building with a random chick eating food next to a pickup truck that is metal :)
This the sort of thing you open and hit thumbs up instantly.
helllll yeah
The Power Of The Riff Lives Within This Band
This is such a great video. I've been listening to YOB on and off for about 12 years and every time I come back to their music it's just more enjoyable.
Yeah they are like a good beer or wine it ages better and better and you gain the taste for it i didnt understand this band at first but after 2 live shows that blew me away and so many good records I just love this band now
Best part of this video 4:41 Lady Eats CAKE!!!
skullstabber9 That's classic, friggin surreal
rich white hah I didn't even notice. Where did she get that cake! I was hungry, too!
+skullstabber9 At 10:00 she is still eating cake...
+skullstabber9 Nachos.
best part is 1:05:00 when Travis's drumstick bounces away on the last hit lol
Mike's guitar is a work of art. Reminds me of Carl Thompson bass guitars, but a bit more modern, and mean looking. Pretty damn fantastic footage, as well.
Steven Wernowsky It's a Nomad from Monson Guitars
How this band plays at such a none stop intensity with such intricacy for well over an hour with literally every note as good as the note before it until the amp turns off is absolutely mind boggling!! I’ve played in Stoner/sludge/whatever you wanna call it for so many years so I’m no stranger to long songs and sets and keeping the right tempo for riffs that can go 10+ minutes sometimes but I’m still in awe of these fellas!! And they are a power trio!! Which was my preferred format as well but you have to be solid, loud, and have a great bassist who can sit in a warm fuzzy pocket for days!!! #YOB equals #LEGENDS
The headstocks on those Monson guitars are like... perfect
29:21 this, just this
I don’t think I’ve seen doom metal better represented than this video, from the background to the songs. Chef’s kiss
I see you, Lori S in the background! Good gig. Thanks again for recording this one too
+Raaqwar Yeah, I see Joey behind Mike too!
Hi. Who Lori S.?
mike hunt the vocalist/Guitarist for the band Acid King
My favourite video on CZcams, hands down.
I’ve just started to appreciate Yob and good lord is Adrift in the Ocean good
Burning The Altar is my fav. Blew out my hearing for two weeks standing close to Mike's speakers at WOW Hall a couple years ago while he played that one.
I come back every months to remind myself why this band is that
13:45 this is fucking brutal. Sounds like tearing of concrete wall. +guy in the bg
Doomed & Stoned, my deepest gratitude to you, for the gift of Doom Metal.
I never even heard of "Hoverfest". Thank you for your kick-ass channel. ~S
"We have to more songs and then we're done" i.e. half an hour more.
kosmos- greatest track yob will ever write!
they are not that one dimensional, kosmos ain't even in my top 5, kosmos is great don't get offended, but they have a tonne of on par and better songs
in my opinion Marrow is their best track lml
Throw in the Lie That Is Sin and that just about covers all my fav Yob songs! Killer set
Fascinating video where what is interesting is the people in the background while awesome music is playing.
Cheers for recording, dunno how you kept the camera so still throughout the set, these guys absolutely kills it.
Thanks, Rich. I was sporting a bloody nose/face/hand through the whole set, too. Had a nasty face-to-face meeting with the concrete just an hour before. I really get into it when I start filming, though. It's almost like a martial art haha. Discipline!
+Doomed & Stoned Sorry man but why did the injuries you incured actually happen..?? LOL ? sorry for laughing really man..been there done that kinda shit.
Really, really grateful for this. Thank you so very much.
Wow I love this group and listen to them all of the time, amazing everything amazing ;)
Thanx a lot, saw YOB one week later in Utrecht, Holland.
Thanks so much for this footage mate. So good, Seeing thew in three days for the first time in Sydney Australia. Can't fucking wait.
They just come in swinging like its a sold out festival show. Respect af
Great video - YOB are awesome! Thanks for the upload my friend! 🤘🏻🤘🤘🏾🤘🏿👽✨
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT WOULDA MADE IT BETTER. IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!
The amp buzz kinda sucks, other than that it rules
Oh a 72 minute YOB video - that's basically a 5 song set (said with love and admiration)
Always keep list to your best song!
I got to see these guys live before in Boise. They kicked ass. It was a great show.
Incredible band. And I swear that's Joey from Acid King behind Mike at the beginning?!
And Lori behind him on the left around the 6:00 minute mark.
Great footage , thanks for share !!!
Great job on the full vid! Brilliant music! Thanks for sharing! \m/
55:21 don't worry about your P90's, even Mike's mouth has the feedback...
this is pure bliss.. pure emotion and wisdom concentrated/contradicted? in sound.. and this guitar looks pretty sexy to play...
I like their guitars.
I remember a great show with them .this band was cool as could be nice guys
Congrats a 5 star recording!!!
Introducing at Roadburn Fest "We play 4 songs worth one hour. Thank you."
They blew us all away.
Ha
That is a beautiful guitar!
A Monson Nomad
Adrift in the ocean! So good
Wish i could‘ve been there
can't wait to see them in 2 weeks!
Monson guitars are perfect for heavy music.
That was a great show!
Black Sabbath's Grandchildren are growing up big and strong. ~S
Wish i could hear the vocals man.
+Corrupt Jupiter Yeah, what you're hearing is what we heard, at least standing that close to the stage. Would have loved to been able to mix soundboard audio with these, but none was recorded.
Nicely done, sir
Thanx or posting this!
The best band
Can we all just agree that 48:51 is peak Yob
Jams!!!
This shit is insane. I N S A N E
i was there
Frickin awesome dude!
Thanks man
im going to hover fest !!
LOL @ 1:05:01 Travis loses his drum stick
Diff strokes for diff folks. I remb commenting on a Mars Volta video saying "You call this noise music?" . I guess as long noise is created using instruments it is called music after all.
Is that the Lateralus Eye on his frets? Gnarly
HyperZ's CNC & Gaming It's an Om
That's the eye from 10,000 Days you're referring to.
dang good boy
What's that amazingly dissonant and crushing chord he uses in Kosmos all the time? Hear that in so many great metal songs, no idea what it actually is...
23:08
easy there, mike. fuck.
Jef whitehead/Leviathan behind the drummer at 17:40??
Ha! Like number 420 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Is there any PA ANYWHERE that could possibly match this guys guitar rig??
PA fail!
This guy in the back at 0:50
Anyone has a clue whats that bass?
yob with neurosis at the hawthorne theater last year was fucking amazing.....much better sound than this...(of course this is outside so it's always more difficult )...but the rafters were shaking...that shit was good...
Yeah, outdoors always tricky. Billy Anderson did the sound engineering and I'm hoping one of these days he'll release the audio (he did record it from the soundboard). We've talked about mixing it in with my original videos, but I'm not sure what kinds of extra hoops that would require. Hopefully it will happen one day soon!
hell yeah, man!!
what bass is that?
joey novack EGC bass
That guitar is beautiful, can anyone tell me what it is?
Its a Monson Nomad #1. Look here... www.monsonguitars.com/guitars/nomad.html
Layne Giese my few favorite musicians use em, like mike here, and scott kelly of neurosis and many others, and wrest of laviathan. it has to be mindblowing, as those guys are all recognizable for their amazing sound....
One question, does anybody know what guitar is Mike playing?
+Mitja Rupel www.monsonguitars.com/guitars/nomad.html
It's a Monson Nomad
Is that an EGC bass?
Yup
There's no way those vocals have a chance of punching through that bone rushing wall of sound on In Our Blood
