南海十三郎(林韋辰)是本港二、三十年代著名劇作家及作曲家。
郎自幼天資聰慧，大學期間，為了追求莉(童愛玲)，不惜放棄學業，遠赴上海。
後來，郎受名老倌薛覺先(梁漢威)大力推薦進入梨園，令郎成為炙手可熱的劇作家，並收了唐滌生(陳啟泰)為徒。
抗戰期間，郎所寫的愛國劇不被接受，反而鄙俗表演大受歡迎，郎終落得失意收場。
戰後他生活潦倒，又因跳火車而變得神經失常，並在街頭生活了三十多年，更多次被送入精神病院，最終他在醫院病逝，結束其充滿戲劇性的一生。

這套A TV 劇集，我覺得係最好嘅一套，林韋辰演得入木三分，尤其他的感情戲，令人好感動，舞台劇將呢段感情輕輕帶過，他因為這樣，才會變得痴痴呆呆，再回到家中，將佢嘅感情寫寫快樂佢嘅戲曲中！希望可全套睇晒啦！
