  • The Fujifilm X-E1 v the Fujifilm X-E2 - this is a Review and Comparison video of these two beautiful cameras. If you're looking for a rangefinder style camera for your photography work or hobby, these two cameras are worth look at. They are both highly portable, professional quality and beautifully designed.
    The Fujifilm X-E1 has the original X-Trans 1 sensor, which has a very filmic, analogue look, and the Fujifilm X-E2 is a similar camera, with the same beautiful design but with the next X-Trans 2 sensor.
    Together, these two cameras with the Fujifilm 18mm lens, Fujifilm 56mm lens and the Fujifilm 27mm lens take photographs that are full of texture and atmosphere.
    If, like me you work as a pro photographer then these cameras are also a good option. I use them for my photography work in landscapes, food and portrait photography and they perform very well.

    The sensor in both the XE-1 and XE-2 are essentially the same apart from the incorporation of phase-detection AF in the newer X-Trans II sensor in the XE-2. Fujifilm have tinkered with their film simulations over time. So, the differences you are seeing between the XE-1 and XE-2 are probably down to the in camera processing. A better test would be to shoot a raw file of the same subject with both cameras and process them identically in Capture One, Adobe Raw or whatever, and compare those results.

    Love the x-e2 but was needing to try more waist level shooting which X-E2 isn't good for because the screen is not a flip-out type. So then I found the X-T10, effectively an X-E2 with a flip out screen ! Now I can carry one with the 18mm and the other with 27mm to switch between 'wide' and 'normal' as needed. The prices of these older bodies was dropping quickly until recently, but i think more people have found how good they really are and the prices for the X-E2 seem to have stabilised and started rising again

    Great video - I am loving my x-e1 and that wonderful pancake lens. I don't care it doesn't have an aperture ring. I take the camera everywhere with me now, like I used to take my mx. Big hands and such a tiny camera - you would think it wouldn't work, I'm still getting familiar with the layout - To be honest, I'm getting better results with this small, 8 year old obsolete digital camera than I ever did with my medium format film camera. After a few days shooting with the X-E1, I decided I should upgrade to 'a real professional camera'. After watching this - I already have. Cheers have a good one mate. B

    Very nice job! I like your food and family photos.
    I have the X-E2s (along with the X-E3 and X-H1) and have been toying with the thought of getting a camera with the original X-Trans sensor (X-M1, X-E1 or X-Pro1). Unfortunately, here in the US, they've become cult cameras and have gotten really expensive on the used market. I would spring for $250-$300, but not $400 or $500, especially since I only paid $250 for my mint X-E2s.
    Your video has helped me decide I can still look for a bargain, but I may be better off putting that money to a different use. Finally, you say you can't decide, but go to your slide show and count the numbers of photos you used taken with the X-E1 compared to the X--E2 ;-).

    Hi ! It's difficult to choose between the two. May be the X-E1... by a very thin margin, or rendering. Yes, I noticed in the last few days, that the Trans I makes beautiful skies, showing lots of nuances. I've been shooting with a XM1 lately, wich I don't like, but I use it because the images are magic. There's someting very special about them. Well I have to buy a XE2 again, for the EVF. What makes the choice easier for me, between XE1 and XE2, is that the body of the E2 is better, more complete. Also, and very important for me, is the better electronic viewfinder and the stronger focus peaking of the E2. I find it primordial with some manual lenses. It does not have the EVF od the XH1, but it's acceptable, and at least one more fn buton than the XE1. Or, should I buy the XT10 or XT1. The XT10 has a flip out screen, so convenient !

    I used to have XE1 and sold it in a favor of XE2. XE1 is slower than XE2. It still can capture great stills, but capturing a photo is only part of the process of taking a photo. XE2 is performed much better to the level you feel that there is nothing to improve. All above is about stills not capturing video. Video performance sucks on both, which is a pity. With XE2 you will have 9 phase-detection focus points - quicker and precise focusing, WiFi - moving files to a phone or tablet on a go, more advanced manual focus assist - huge plus, electronic shutter up to 1/32000, much better performance overall.

      @@ChrisOrange I guess you can't ramp up both sharpness and microcontrast at the same time, at least not easily... Another thing I believe has to do with the low-ish res and x-trans array combo; it seems to produce that film-like random grain that bayer sensors lack, their noise being more uniform and less patchy. I noticed this a lot back in the days of my xq1; 12mp, a lot more noise, but for aome reason it was pretty pleasing and everyone liked those pictures, even the obscenely noisy ones at its iso1600.

      I have XE2s and XT1. The XE is not as good as the XT for MF, partly because the XT viewfinder is bigger but mostly because the XE2s is unreliable for MF with SOME lenses for some reason. It is very unreliable with my 7artisans 25mm. Sometimes the focus peaking works accurately and sometimes it does not. It exhibits the same problem with my TTartisans 35mm. It works fine with my Meike 28mm, 35mm f1.4 and 50mm f1.7 and any adapted lenses I have tried. My XE3 exhibits the same issues.
      If you can afford the extra though the XT1 is better, has exhibited no such inconsistencies and is barely any larger and not even that if you add a hand grip to the XE2.

    • @ChrisOrange
      @ChrisOrange  Před 3 lety +1

      @orangorill Před 3 lety +1

      The X-E1 has one huge disadvantage when it comes to manual focusing: While the EVF is okay (certainly wouldn't call it good), the main issue is the focus peaking. On this particular model, it's only a faint white highlight, with no colour options. Fuji could have fixed this easily in a firmware update, but decided not to. For this reason I would seriously consider, well, any other camera for use with manual lenses.

    I love my X-E1 but I would offer a warning - I bought mine not long after it was released, and I used it a lot back then, I look after my cameras though and it looks as good today as it did when I first took it out of the box, not a single scratch or blemish. There was a period though, after I'd purchased my X-T1, where I didn't use the X-E1 at all. It lived inside a camera bag inside a cupboard for approximately 18 months or so. One day I retrieved the camera to use, plopped a fresh battery and a fresh SD card in and...the on/off switch did nothing. I couldn't get it to turn on at all. After a period though it did turn on, and operated flawlessly but would shut off on it's own suddenly for no reason. And then it started to turn on, even with the power switch in the off position. It behaves itself whilst I am actively using it, but I can't leave a battery in it unnattended as it will just keep turning itself on and off, it does not matter what position the power switch is in. When I want to use this camera I have to put a battery in, turn it to 'on' and I have the auto power off kick in after thirty seconds - if I do this, at least so far, it doesn't keep turning itself on and off all the time, although I don't want to completely drain a battery by leaving it in there unnattended just in case. Fujifilm were no help, they'll repair the camera but that would be more than it is worth, although I can't really blame them for that, it is an old product afterall. The thing is though, this happened inside a water proof camera bag, hung up inside a dark, dry cupboard and without any interaction from anyone - it just developed a serious fault 'somehow' all by itself without any discernible reason or cause. Worrying. None of my other cameras have ever managed that feat.

      @@da009999 All Fuji lenses produce images good enough for commercial work, in terms of focal lengths it will be the one to suit the subject, have have lenses in the range from 14mm to 200mm

    I had both! In my opinion, the X-E1 has more film-like colors, but I stayed with the Xe2! the X-E2 has more options like wifi, and I the prefer the 35mm f2 combination Its insane!

      I know what you mean - I've found myself reaching for the X-E2 more simply to use the wifi option whilst I'm out. But I love having the X-E1 in the bag for those colours...

    Is the X-trans-* the outstanding sensor? In Fujifilm cameras doesn't matter the pixel amounts. They are better than Megapixel counts. It's the fabulous sensor architecture. And the Fujifilm processors do better,

  • @bigrobotnewstoday1436

    I don't think the sensor is sharper in the Fuji X-E2. If you use DXO PhotoLab or DXO PureRaw with their noise reduction and try their sharpening in good like a old camera is like a new camera. One of my crappy lens from Panasonic 14-140mm from Panasonic is now a good lens when using DXO with their sharpening.
    There is a Pentax Kobie M-C here on CZcams said he got a new Pentax and one of his crappy lens was really good with his new camera body. My guess Pentax is going very deep inside the raw file and is able to pull all the data and process these images better.
    Just give DXO PhotoLab or DXO PureRaw a try you'll see what I'm talking about. I export to DNG so I can edit in another editor if I want.

    I thought the real issue is that XE1 has only 12bit raw file, XE2‘s 14 bit raw is way more better if you want to play with raw file.

    I've been using the X-E2s that I bought new after seeing the specs for the X-E4 (and rejecting it) and it is true... it renders differently than my later models. And I mean in a good way.
    I just received the new 27mm f/2.8 and did extensive testing using both the X-E3 and X-E2s In same conditions, subjects. Lighting and film simulations (as close a match given the differences in the parameters), and while the X-E3 is fantastic, it might be too pristine in its rendering. The X-E2s output reminds me of film. Today, I was shooting an impossibly high tonal range with the X-E2s, I set the dynamic range to 400 and with a slight tweak of the exposure compensation dial produced a SOOC Jpeg that I know would not have happened with the newer cameras.
    It's nice to have different tools for different jobs.
