I was at this show, I was displaying my Jeep
I have often wondered, what do the people that own all these trucks, armour, AFV's, display helicopters, recovery trucks do with them when they arent at shows?
Do they just have them in storage, have a farm or a very large garden ?
How do they get some of these vehicles to a show ?
I can see the recovery trucks being used for what they were made for
Tanks and AFV's I know use haulage companies, but some of the recovery vehicles have huge engines
Going to the show, I never saw any other vehicles going to or from the show
Who pays for the petrol/diesel to get them to these shows ?
The only place I have seen a Sherman tank trundling down the road was in France, along with Jeeps, command cars and lots of truck, lots of trucks and troops in the back of the trucks
I know some of the trucks have been converted to campers, to look at them you would never know it (jamie Oliver has a Bedford 3 ton truck as a mobile cookhouse and a camper) I know one truck is used for removals
Have any of the re enactors ever served in the forces ?
The way they move when under supposed fire, I doubt it
I did see some British troops patroling the grounds, as if they were in NI, they were very convincing and their kit was the real thing (except the weapons were deactivated or replicas)
I can remember doing that myself
I dont have a workshop for my Jeep or special storage, just a front drive, all the work on my Jeep is done there (kerbside mechanics) but it is under cover
It was a pretty good show, plenty to see and do, the weather was with us, a fair chance I will go again next year
I think some people must have the facilities to accommodate / own small tanks or military vehicles, and I think they paid or arranged their own petrol or diesel to get to the show. However, quite a lot of vehicles came also from museums and perhaps got help with funding? I'm not sure. I'm not sure about the reenactment, but my guess is it's mixed. Some may have served some did not.
