There is something enchanting about this film. My teacher showed it to me about 25 years ago when I was around 6 years old. I'm a relatively normal guy. A little too "man's man" to ever admit I have a soft spot for a specific musical. But multiple numbers from this film seem to not only take me back in time but trap me in time. A world before I even recognized I was a kid. A world before 9/11 or puberty or Kardashians...a better world. A world where the magic of childhood could be not only encapsulated but exhibited by a character such as Gene Wilder's Wonka that was somehow both so approachable and yet so mystique. I live a fine life. I'm a happy, well adjusted, law abiding citizen. Yet for some reason, every few years, I have to revisit these songs and these scenes and I find myself close to or even past the point of inconsolable, happy weeping at how unbelievably beautiful, fragile and powerful life can be. We all have to some degree a discomfort with the reality that we will die one day; some more than others. I see a scene like this and realize, I never will be 6 again. That 6 year is as dead as I will be one day. Yet I'm still somehow alive enough to remember him in my heart...to appreciate the 30 year old I am today will be dead soon too as I transition to yet another phase in life. But somehow even adults like the store clerk or Wonka can still be fueled by that inner child. That voice that once existed that was too niave to believe how cruel the world truly is. And even if for a moment, a simple candy bar can be all it takes to return to that innocence. God damn it's a beautiful world.
This specific scene was one of the only comforting childhood memories I have and as a 29 year old I’m still obsessed with candies and chocolate. In my dream house I’d have a replica of this store in a room full of treats 😍
That's what you think but he really knows the kids are taking all his candy but the dentist next door and him split profits and from the ton of sugar those kids are eating they be getting cavities
***** While I think anecdotal evidence is usually a weak argument, everyone is different. One diet that might work for you, might not work for me. I have a high metabolism, so as long as I don't lounge about and eat nothing but butter, I won't get fat. However, I have a friend who works out 5/7 days doing full workouts. He exercises far more than I do, and yet has what most would consider an unhealthy body type (He is a bit obese, and has some belly fat). Some people can eat nothing but garbage, and not have it affect their health, while others who occasionally treat themselves to delicious sin will struggle with their health.
I need to know if this is what candy shops actually used to look like because it looks a lot like a bar. Just sitting at the bar with my friends as a 10 year old as I order another bar of chocolate, it sounds like a dream. Having a bar for kids but without the alcohol honestly sounds like the coolest thing ever and would be a great place for kids to hangout.
+Cooper Carr I agree, I was surprised why he was giving candy away for free especially when I first saw this movie I said to myself from 1:14-1:20 "wow, he's giving all that for free." Unless hopefully all the kids paid for whatever candies they ate once the song was over (the look on Charlie's face in the next scene was like Charlie was thinking "it's not fair that he's giving free candy" and/or a look feeling sad that he doesn't have money to buy any), if not, it's not fair that Charlie had to pay for his Wonka bar when those kids here got everything free.
Here's a theory: he knew how desperate Charlie was to have his luck changed for the better, so he went outside and planted that dollar for Charlie to find and when he wanted a Wonka bar, he knew which one had the golden ticket, so he exchanged it with Charlie for that dollar and the rest is history.
Charlie is looking into the Candystore, longing for sweets, but is sadly too poor to be able to purchase anything. What he doesn't realise is that the Clerk has just been in a great dispute with his boss and is literally giving away the candy in protest against his low salary.
He ain't t giving it for free what are you talking about....ya give him your health cuz yeah can bet ur bum all those kids are gonna be a Type 2 by the time they get out of there

He is not giving the candy away, the kids are paying for it. We just don't actually see them pay. Every child had their own money with them and payed the candy man before leaving the candy shop. that is why Charlie is looking in the window so sadly, he does not have spending money as the rest of the children from his school do!
The director: "Bahahaha! Did you see that bitch get planted?! Right across the face! End Scene! That is a wrap! Give that man his well deserved paycheck! Ah, it's fun being a 70's director..."
It’s likely because no one ever comes by to actually buy anything aside from the children who are likely on tabs which likely he jacks up the price of said tabs and makes a fortune from the tabs alone.
@@agumisael7533 I only said that because people will think that it is obvious and think that I'm some 50 year old who just lost her husband and is now moaning on the Internet.

However, since the word had spread around that the guy frequently gives away free candy, he is more or less stuck there.
@Rafael orozco the theories main theme is about why free candy is being handed out your comment is not even a theory it is a bunch of random strung together events about Steve Jobs, a guy named brazos, the assassination of JFK, and a candy man assassinating hitler. Dip it in a dream
Seperate the sorrow
And collect up all the cream?
The candyman
Willy Wonka can
The candyman can cause he mixes it with love
And makes the world taste good
And the world tastes good cause the candyman thinks it should
HASAN PIKERRRRR
The next day his business went bankrupt.
Dlxxx159 then how is he still open for charlie to get his wonka bar
+Alex Gomory Keisler Maybe he was giving out the cheap stuff that was about to go bad?
*****
Back then candy sold for mere pennies....you can't go lower than one cent
PyroGothNerd you telling me he threw around a years worth of income away?
Kids dropped in during a robbery so he had to improvise. The real clerk is tied and gagged in the back! Lol
That Man Hit The Little Girl In The Face That Was Not The
Jaw Breaker She Wanted
Maleek Diaz good one lol
You're gonna go out of business if you keep giving out free candy like that every day, my man.
After watching CANDYMAN 2021 this song has more iconic power now‼️
He tells Charlie not to eat too fast, WHILE THESE SAVAGES ARE FREAKING GORGING THEMSELVES IN RECORD TIME
WHAT THE HELL??
Classism 🤣🤣🤣
He's learning from his mistakes
Plot twist: he secretly likes Charlie
Ok childhood ruined
R.I.P. Gene Wilder "The Candyman" you will be missed.
I’m literally shaking
So much candy
go see a doctor
Nobody on set knew this would be one of the most iconic movie scenes of all time ☺️
Love how they all get the candy for free and Charlie’s just standing outside
Love how you pick the spookiest frame for the screenshot.

“Who can beat up Hasan in a boxing match?”
Hands down one of if not the most memorable song of this movie.
Also to those that wonder about him losing all this money givin all of it away to kids, dude prolly owns the place and makes hundreds a day, have you seen what kinda candy they have in this world?
I would like to add, that the parents probably have tabs open for the kids.
I mean charlie the poorest kid cant get free chocolate from the place. But he does allow charlie to purchase it and get the golden ticket. (I know its a movie, but I think the shopowner rigged it for charlie.)
Counterargument: Pure Imagination
He also knew the children's names so they're probably frequent customers and pay frequently so he probably sometimes gives them candy for free
Here because of the iPhone commercial, hearing this takes me back and makes me smile. Cheers to Aubrey Woods our favorite candy man! RIP good sir. ❤️
Best scene in film history. God damn the memories
As a kid i always thought this was the coolest shit. Pretty much a bar but for kids, full of sweet drinks, soda and candy.
Charlie: -Sees the guy giving free food
Also charlie: - didn't go inside and join in
Apple: okay what song should we use for our ad?
Some random guy in the back: I mean some candy is purple so like
Apple: *B R I L L I A N T*
another one of apple's marketing schemes to make people buy their unnessecary products
@@grieferoncamera4600 ok android fan
@@hrtmoder Android is superior, iPhone is for people who only drink coffee from Starbucks and get the same thing at Olive Garden everytime.
@@ripperthegiraffe8763 I'm just wanted to start some drama, you took the bait
@@hrtmoder im an android and ios fan because i have devices running both operating systems
I only prefer android because it gives me more freedom, and I hate that Apple adds very unimportant things and makes it look like the next big thing
If you say Candyman five times in your mirror with the lights turned off Willy Wonka will appear with an everlasting gobstopper.
SummerInTheCity1966 and when you step out of the bathroom Slugworth is waiting for you and that Gob
Its 3 times
Don’t tempt me
You lot are funny.
*YOU **_LIED_*
1:05 - sprinkle it with doo / goo is what I always remembered that line being
"yo georgie, go get the other guys. we gonna try to get that candy man to sing again."
Basically this entire scene:
-Children run into the candy store
-Kid asks a question
-Shopkeeper lets the children eat everything in the store
Makes poorest kid in town pay. GOOD DAY, SIR!
Forgets to make all other children pay for their food, because fuck Charlie.
segaofmyhouse 😂😂
Jude Cope I hope you're being sarcastic with that statement. He knows the kids' names in this scene so I'm assuming they have a tab before they leave the shop.
@ 0:29 When the crowd of kids comes in, the kid in the white shirt on the right just gets up and leaves. Never noticed that before, lol.
He knows whats up
He’s like I’m good, too many kids XD
His ex was in the crowd
Maybe the crowd are bullies😂
He's like, "Here comes the song again."
One of the greatest movie scenes
Sam Hyde must play this when he is entering the ring
