Midwest US **Edible Mushrooms:** 🍄‍🟫 🍄 good ole Ai 🤖 lol
    1. **Morel mushrooms (Morchella spp.)**: Abundant in Midwestern forests, especially under ash, elm, and poplar trees.
    2. **Oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus)**: Commonly found on trees, stumps, and other decaying wood.
    3. **Chanterelle mushrooms (Cantharellus cibarius)**: Grow in coniferous forests, often near oak or pine trees.
    4. **Black trumpet mushrooms (Craterellus cornucopioides)**: Found in deciduous and coniferous forests, often near streams or rivers.
    **Poisonous Mushrooms:**
    1. **Death Cap (Amanita phalloides)**: Common in Midwestern forests, can be mistaken for edible species like the Morel.
    2. **False Morel (Gyromitra esculenta)**: Can be found in the same habitats as Morels, but has a smooth, rounded cap and is toxic.
    3. **Destroying Angel (Amanita virosa)**: Similar to the Death Cap, it's a deadly poisonous mushroom that can grow in the same habitats as edible species.
    4. **Poisonous Webcap (Cortinarius rubellus)**: Found in deciduous and coniferous forests, has an orange-red cap and stems.
    **Regional Tips:**
    1. **Look for Morels in April and May**: The Midwest is home to several Morel species, which typically fruit in spring.
    2. **Check for Oyster mushrooms after storms**: Heavy rain and wind can stimulate Oyster mushroom growth.
    3. **Search for Chanterelles in summer**: Chanterelles typically fruit from June to August.
    4. **Be cautious of areas with heavy pesticide use**: Avoid areas where pesticides have been applied, as this can contaminate mushrooms.
Remember to always follow responsible mushroom hunting practices:
    * Research local regulations regarding mushroom hunting
    * Respect private property rights
    * Avoid damaging or destroying habitats
    * Only collect what you need
    * Be mindful of your impact on the environment
