    Montreal has many prospects. Farrell comes to mind as well.

    I go to BU and met him in person, he’s around 5’10-5’11

      Yes, at the draft he was listed as 5'7 148lbs. Now it's 5'10, 161 lbs

      Get off the crack pipe. I met him at the beginning of the Hockey East tournament, and he's 5'9. He is nowhere close to 5'11.

    The plan will be for him to play his sophomore year. I'm really excited to see how it goes. Cole Caufield exploded as a sophomore, and it's gonna be fun to see if Lane can handle all of the responsibilities of a first-pairing guy, including the defensive ones. What distinguishes Cale Makar from guys like Tony DeAngelo isn't just the superior offense, it's also the defense. Right now I believe microstats show defense to be Lane's weakness, but it's not impossible to fix, and he already does some things right.

    We see the likes of Korey Krug, Spurgeon, Blankenburg, Hughes, Fox, and the list goes on.. performing in the nhl i dont understand why this old-fashioned mindset that ''if you're small, your game will not translate at the nhl level'' is still working gms head up but I'm glad it does becomes MY team (HabsFan here) are never scared to pick small players and will still profit from it in the future

    The Habs can't sign him in the off-season unless he's done with college hockey (since NCAA players cannot be signed to professional contracts, even if they are still playing in the NCAA...one of those weird American rules that makes no sense). And since he only weighs 155-160 lbs, I think college is the right place for him to develop, for at least one more year (probably 2). The alternative would be him moving into Canada's junior hockey system (Kingston drafted him, so they own his rights in the CHL), as there is no way he's ready for the AHL or ECHL yet, and he's at least 2 years away from a full-time NHL gig. But in my opinion, he might as well get (part of) an education while playing hockey, as the difference in competition-level between the OHL and Division I NCAA is fairly minor. Luke Hughes stayed for a second year, and he's a 4th overall pick who could probably play in the NHL right now if the Devils wanted him to (and Hutson is out-performing him, as a freshman). Also, there's no need to rush him...Montreal should let him develop at his own pace, because if they do, he could be a legendary defenseman in 5 years.
    I am very much looking forward to seeing him in bleu, blanc et rouge someday, that's for sure. When he's ready.

      Thanks for letting me know about the NCAA contract rule, I didn't know that. Definitely agree on letting him develop a bit more in the NCAA or the CHL. Can't wait until he plays for the Habs!

    Can I make a suggestion for the up-and-coming NCAA men’s hockey tournament? There’s a lot of players I know on Minnesota, but I don’t know a lot of the other players in college hockey to look out for this was interesting and I would like to know more about players to look out for.

    As a New Englander and BU fan, sad to see this kid go. And to the Habs, no less. But he's a serious talent and will do well in the NHL, despite his size. 47 points in 36 games this year and Hockey East Championship MVP as a defenseman. Pretty impressive for a freshman.

    • @APJTA
      @APJTA Před rokem +6

      The good news is that he'll probably have at least one more season at BU. The Habs will prefer that he get the extra year in school, where he'll be able to go to the gym way more than a pro player can, and there's no rush to burn team control years either.

    Size in the NHL has changed, in my playing days my 6'1" 180 was what they looked for, this kid is amazing, 5'10" is fine, it's his great skating and abilities that will make him a great prospect, we'll be hearing his name in a year or two. Great video. Thank you

    I've met him he is 5'9 tops. Cale is 5'11 187, so he is more than 25 pounds heavier. While there have been successful undersized defensemen in the league, he's gonna definitely have to put in the work in the weight room and put on some muscle. He will have all of the strength and conditioning coaches to outline a diet and workout program, so it shouldn't be a problem, but it will take a lot of work.

    Obviously you hope that your 1st Overall goes on to be the best player in the draft but I would not be surprised if in 10 years we look back and pretty decisively say Lane Hutson was the best player from the 2022 draft. He is a remarkable prospect.

    He’s 5’10 now. He grew 2 inches from draft to mid season. No reason to doubt it. You might as well say that about every player then. Who are you to judge and say with absolutely no evidence. You’re just causing an unnecessary controversy for a great kid who has done nothing but excellent at ever level. Can’t stand when statements like that are made just to stir the pot. Be better. Apologize or get proof.
