  • Veronica Flying is a glider airfield which is located about 170km south-east of Windhoek. The perfect starting position for huge flights and a beautiful game lodge to relax on the ground. For the accomodation you can choose between cool tents and the most luxurious chalets.
    It was Jonathans first fight in Namibia and my first flight with the TwinShark. What an amazing experience!

  • @arthurrobey7177
    @arthurrobey7177 Před 2 lety +1

    Tak.
    I am puzzled. Why does one not install a length of spring-steel wire at the wingtips to act as skids for tale-off, so you don't need a wing runner? The wire could fold back when flying so that it offeded minimal drag.
    Or one could have a mercury circuit along and within the wing propelled by Flemming's right-hand rule. This would give you gyroscopic stability until you turned it off.

    • @SteFly
      @SteFly  Před 2 lety

      Everything you add is complexity, drag and weight. At some airfields you can also start with the wing on the ground because it has a small wing wheel. When the wings are full of water ballast it´s not the best and safest option..

    Awesome video, they're getting better all the time! So: it handles better than an Arcus, did you manage to get a feeling for the performance?

    • @SteFly
      @SteFly  Před 2 lety

      Both gliders handle great. We had no possibility for a direct comparison of the glide performance between Arcus and TwinShark. They should be on a similar level. At the webpages they write 49:1 for the TwinShark and 50:1 for the Arcus. The Arcus has one point more handicap factor at WeGlide and OLC. Sebastian Kawa made a comparison in final glide last year at Veronica and there he said the TwinShark was performing slightly better: 304shark.info/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Sebastian-Kawa-mit-TWIN-SHARK.pdf For such a small difference in performance the only reliable source for a test result would be the IDAFLIEG results.

    how does one get your glider to Namibia?

    • @soaruk3697
      @soaruk3697 Před 2 lety

      In a container, on a ship - plenty of guys shipping them out there from Germany for the winter season - check the websites in the last few videos for Veronica and Bitterswater they should be able to answer you further. You need a Self Launch Sailplane though...... the conditions are great but tbh gets a bit boring and monotonous - would rather fly in the mountains like the European and New Zealand Alps, Rockies and Andes myself - more challenging and the scenery is so much better unless you are a big desert fan.

      Der einzige Kritikpunkt ist die hohe Armauflage und evtl. könnte der Hebel noch weiter vorne sein. So schlimm war das aber für mich nicht, da ich die Landestellung kaum verwendet hatte.

    • @jorgspichtig8274
      @jorgspichtig8274 Před 2 lety

      Der Flieger ist der Prototyp #1, das Cockpit entspricht nicht der Serienversion. Der WK-Hebel wurde nach vorne versetzt und der Weg verkürzt. Bei einem Doppelsitzer ist die Armauflage halt wegen den Pedalen vom hintern Piloten immer ewas hoch, ist beim ARCUS & Duo nicht anders.
