In this tutorial I will show you how to crochet this adorable granny square. Everyone loves the basic granny square so I wanted to come up with one that had a little more detail. So here is my new designed granny square with a little bit of fancy! I call it my "Fancy Basic" granny square. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. This is perfect for those that want the ease of a basic granny square with a fancy touch.

My daughter and I are crocheting this pattern together creating a blanket for our living room. We are using gray and white just like the video. It's elegant looking. I like it a lot.

This is so very pretty - I LOVE the grey/white together! I've just been making table mats, doing a very similar pattern (doing the 'flower petals' 2dctog tho) in pretty blue & dark blue & white... but wish I'd done it in grey & white, now! LOL! I like your pattern but I am so new to crocketing that when you cut and tie off to start a new color I am unsure how to continue without cutting and tieing off. How to keep going with the same yarn without cutting the yarn to start in a new place?
If you want to continue when your 8 sets of 2 DC, ch 1's is complete, slip stitch to the CH 1 space & ch 3, 2 DC, ch 1, 3 DC. That is your 1st corner.
To continue after each row: after slip stitching into the CH 3 from the previous row, slip stitch 2 more times. This will take you to the 1st corner where you will ch 3, 2 DC, ch 1, 3 dc.

How big is the granny Square? I need squares that are 6 inches. I love the design.❤
Thank you! I used a 6mm hook & they measure 5 inches. Maybe use a 7mm or use a smaller hook & add an extra row. You could possibly do a HDC instead of the SC.

Is there any way you can do a triangle pattern for this? I made a granny vest using these squares and need triangles for the v-neckline. This was my first project and the first granny square video I was able to understand and follow along with. Absolutely love this!

hello! could anyone please tell me how many stitches there are on the sides? im making a blanket and i just wanna know if this has the same amount of stitches on the side as my other granny squares since they're a different pattern :)
There are 16 SC's on every side.

(I would want to interchange this one with my other squares if possible to make a patchwork blanket. )
You will have 16 SC across the side.. This is counting the 2 DC in the corners on each end.
My way of closing the square isn't as secure. ❤ Thank you for showing me a better way. ❤
