IS the ROG ALLY worth it vs a Steam Deck 1 year later?
Iâve had it since pre-release
Ran into the SD Card Slot issue but it didn't fry my card, just forced it out
hammered it with the XG mobile for 3 months and it still works great
graphics driver updates have been solid
battery life still sucks
Can get one as low as $455 on Best Buy open box
It really depends what games you want to play
destiny 2 works on Ally
Forza Horizon 5 runs at a locked 60fps at 900p mostly medium and high settings
STEAM DECK ON SALE
$296.65 for 64GB LCD
$381.65 for 256GB LCD
$549 for 512 OLED
$649 for 1TB OLED

Quite possibly the best way to install third party launchers onto your Steam Deck, whether it be Ubisoft Connect or the Epic Games Store, is the NonSteamLaunchers script. The script, which was created by moraroy, automatically downloads whichever launcher (and some streaming sites), downloads the latest Proton GE, installs all of it, adds it to Steam, and gives it a custom controller configuration. It all works extremely well, and it's one of my favorite ways to download and install launchers. Now, a new update is here, and it fixes some issues that were present if you have EmuDeck installed, too.
From the last update, there were some incompatibilities with EmuDeck and Steam Rom Manager specifically, but with the newest update, there should no longer be any errors! You may need to get rid of the previous NonSteamLauncher shortcuts so that the new version can remake them (no data should be lost). There were also some bugs fixed with shortcuts, will install correctly, and some moe code was optimized (huzzah!) We also have a better backup system for shortcuts with dated timestamps.

10:24 - this is where I say why not to buy the steam deck that's on sale and buy the OLED instead...
No hate but your video kind of seemed misleading to many people. Seemed more like you were being slightly negative towards one device, while praising the other. I donât care either way, both have their pros and cons. Just happy to live in a time with such powerful handhelds to play đ
â@@paulkendrick4153 yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh I get it in hindsight lol
Don't buy the steam deck, buy this hardware that costs way more and has this history of issues that are still not resolved. What
Basically this video in a nutshell
From a company that nickel and dimes you on repairs that were not in the original warranty claim
Yeah I thought this was Deck ready channel, not Rog Ready channelđ€.
Asus sucks. Iâm happy with valve support. And yes a steamdeck for less than 300$ is a steal.
The ROG Ally is just better hardware and the software is pretty good too.
Watching your video...yeah, just ordered steam deck on the discount.
Good! I have heard that ASUS customer support is absolutely awful
aaa games sucks anyway...
Me to bro high five. Got the 64gb with a 512gb SD card.will upgrade to 1tb for internal storage, later.
Same here took the 64gb version and ordered an nvme for 256gb for 30$, people are getting crazy these days with which device has 3 extra fps or which device has more saturated colors.... they should touch more grass lol
Good. I never recommended the Ally over the Deck. I recommended buying the OLED over the LCD that's on sale.
please don't support the ROG Ally until they fix their customer service/waranty issues
Iâm kinda waiting for the new oled zotac thing lmao
Plenty of good refurbished options.
3 years here steameck since launch and its had no issues other than drift but easy to fix and asus is ass
After having Asus Rog phone I gave up , they drop stuff fast and no communication
@@SamahLamazotac has oled? I think the panel is lcd.
I literally just ordered one this morning, was on the fence but glad I ordered feel good. Now just gotta wait for it to come in. My first steam deck.
i love my one 2 years down the line now its got 4tb and got windows and steam os dual booting hope you love yours too
â@@007DeAngelo how well does windows run on it?
@@kiby4912 you can but i would NEVER do that m, there is alot of problems and it runs lower 10 fps on every game you run , trust me learn linux language C its easy asf
@@kiby4912like a normal pc in 800p, just make sure you have the right drivers
Dudeee youâre gonna love it! From my experience itâs the absolute best I didnât think nothing would make me put the ps5 down.
Sorry, but a 512GB Steam Deck, even an LCD, is well worth it at $380, you get the 1-year warranty if something breaks, there's plenty of performance on the table, and I still jump between using it on-the-go, at home on my PC or plugged into my TV for big-screen gaming. I don't anticipate any sale on the OLED until we get to maybe the autumn or winter sale.
I had saved up for a Steam Deck and they had it on sale and I bought it for $500. Then a month later they released the Oled and the price of the LCD Deck went lower than what I bought on sale. I felt like I got scammed and they wouldnât let me return it.
I think youre right price tag makd me go with led
I agree I got the 256gb steam deck LCD model and my micro sd is 512gb Iâm good with just that I donât care too much about windows as long as I can play my games anyway when ever how ever plus itâs not that much I got my from steam web site I paid 399 - 438 dollars I was ok with that the windows handheld suck and they cost too much GameStop is selling steam deck for cheap too and players should get a steam deck I really donât care about the battery life on the steam deck lcd I use it a lot with the charger so my never run out but other than that I love the steam deck and I agree with what you said about the steam deck lcd
Right & I'm sure in the Winter the OLED model will likely only be $50 off, so still about $540 after Tax, getting that 64Gb Steam Deck rn & upgrading it with a $100 1TB SSD just makes a ton of sense.
Actually 540 without the tax steam oled 512gb is 650$ in out usa and eastAsian is 700$
Been subscribed awhile but this is one of the worst takes youâve ever had
"Don't buy this convinient portable PC/Console with its own custom OS and new features for a cheap price, Buy this buggy one with 0 original features built off one of the worst operating systems for 3x the price instead! It has a little bit more power so its all worth it!!"
I love it đ
"I commented without actually watching the video"
I avoided the ROG Ally mostly because of the Micro SD issues. Now I'm avoiding it because of the recent issues that has come to light about Asus's customer service and warranty issues. (Stealth Edit: Also, the lack of a track pad, which has been extremely helpful when navigating the Steam Deck, especially in Desktop Mode).
Just ordered a OLED Steam Deck. The OLED Switch screen is amazing, so can't wait to see the OLED SD screen once it arrives.
I have Oled but somehow some games might run better on LCD such as jedi fallen order. You get worse performance on oled.
I've been using the 64gb version for almost a year now, with a 512gb SD card. I'd absolutely recommend people buy it at this price
Thanks đ
Are there any issues with running games off of a card instead of the hardwired SSD?
@@Resonosity I haven't had any issues
Bought a 64gb a year ago, upgraded it to a 1tb. I travel have kids, best purchase in my life. Runs 7th gen on max and 8/9 on med.
Swear to god they could bury the ally if they bribed bungie to get their head out of their ass about Linux
Yuuup
I want the ally x. Itâs a solid windows machine. But I will not support asus until they fix their RMA issues. My steam deck will keep me good for now
I wouldn't use it as my only device but I like having it for games that don't work on the Steam Deck.
Just got my Steam Deck yesterday and very happy with it.
Which model and price?
wooooo
Dude stop promoting ROG Ally
dude watch the full vid instead
@@Zanyy__ I did.
Buy the 64GB model then install a 1TB M.2 ssd for $100
1.5tb micro sd is around 120$ on sale
Just checked Amazon has 1.5tb micro sd for 110$
They have 2TB SSDs for like 120$, absolute STEAL
Yeah, that or get the 256 and a 1TB micro SD. Ends up being roughly the same price
Idc Iâm still getting the steam deck
*W*
I'm recommending the OLED over the LCD T_T
Hello all.. Iâm just trying to learn about these⊠what would you recommend as the BEST model/version to purchase? Thanks
Waiting for Steam Deck 2
I would say you're going to be waiting a while but time flys
@@the.littlest.toaster I know, 2026 probably
2 more years minimum. I would just get the first one and sell it when the second is announced.
just buy used like new condition, you will save more money.
Iâm waiting for the PC 2
What wheel and base you have?
This is selfish, but as someone who bought the OLED SD at full price not that long ago, I'm delighted they've not put it on discount đđ
I get it
I subscribed for Steam Deck news and information updates, not the ROG Ally. I am unsubscribing. đ
Same
The PC community basically disagrees with this entire video. For good reason, this was not good advice tbh.
The only reasons you shouldn't buy the Steam Deck LCD on sale:
1. If you'd rather buy an OLED Deck.
2. If you can't handle Lord Gaben's magical box of joy in your life. Not every mortal can wield such power.
ASUS rog ally do you have z1 or Extreme
NNever had an issue with the rog ally keyboard and i just use the shortcut to bring it up it's not as annoying as you make out. in fact I never gave it a thought. Mine isn't a thethered console I just take my batterypacks and never even use the rog ally internal battery. Just my addon batteries. I use 30 watts mode on the battery as well.
People hate on the Rog Ally which is 10* better in every way except for the battery than the steam deck. But I bought the 56000 mah veektomx tank 130w that's original 155.00 bucks on sale on Amazon for 96.00 and let me tell you it's a tank and makes my rog ally last a little over 4 hrs gaming on 15w and 3hrs 5 min on 30w turbo. But I love the Rog Ally. And I can play steam without steam. And I have no issues with the keyboard. Jimmy is a hater
@@roscoebuzzard3687 I know the battery issue is a none issue for me as well. I have both steam deck and Rog ally 2 steam decks actually and they hardly get used cos it's like going from playing on my gaming PC to going and playing on one of those windows 8 tablets they had back along total downgrade from playing on my Rog. I really should sell one at least. I upgraded one steam deck to a 2 terabytes SSD as I did with my Rog ally so probably keep the 2 terabytes steam deck and sell the 64gb one after I put my old Rog ally 512gb SSD in it so I get more money. Just took lazy lol. I spend most of my time now not on my Rog ally or steam deck nor my gaming PC. I bought a quest 3 so spending most my time in VR games atm. They are all cool devices but the steam deck is a downgrade that you notice after playing the Rog ally unfortunately.
I bought a used deck 64gb lcd and its amazing, glad I did! Can do so much with it.
Why does it have to be one or the other? Keep both. One is windows and the other is Linux. You like both then keep both.
Yeah, I like having both. I use the Ally much less but it's great for the two games I mentioned - Forza Horizon 5 and Destiny 2
I posted on your last video that my steam deck was bricked after the update, I had to reimaged the deck, but everythingâs working again. I only play cloud gaming on it. It works great.
Anyone know of a way to buy a steam deck through financing in Canada? đ€
Thank you Jimmy!!! đ
I want the oled so damn bad. Iâve only had my lcd for like 3. Months and I havenât owned a console since ps3 and Iâm so addicted to gaming again. I loooove this thing. Never had an issue.
OLED is awesome but if you like your LCD stick with that
Literally just ordered one, thanks, man!!!!
Some people told me not to buy one as if I was an infant child which all tubers do with productsâŠI BOUGHT ONE ANYWAY AND I HAVENT PUT IT DOWN YET. People, buy whatever you want to that fits your needs.
One problem with steam deck sales is we will likely recieve a new product such as when we got the oled
Never had an issue on the Ally keyboard but nothing but issues on the Deck, mosly in desktop mode.
I use my Ally a lot. Game pass is great on it and Steam big picture mode works great.
I can't think of anything worse than a handheld on Windows. Regardless of the performance.
My understanding Asus said was not heart with the main problem with the SD card, it was a chip if I remember that failed. As they reported changing the fan didn't stop the amount RMA coming in with the problem.
I was waiting to see if the oled went on sale. I got lucky and someone local on marketplace sold me his for 460 OLED 1TB since he uses his legion go more. I love it so far
Thatâs a great deal
its not just the power of the console its the different wat valve treats its customers. i hear stories all the time of people sending in steam decks like a day after warranty when it breaks ready to pay for a repaired or replacement and valve just gives them a new one. the night and day difference in approaches valve and ASUS have to supporting their customers and hardware really pushed more towards buying the steam deck. also valve has done so much for the linux gaming community through proton and they are one of the best reasons to switch to pc. over all if you so your research you will find its not only the raw specs that should be accounted for when deciding between the two. (also as a linux user windows sucks)
I have an LCD. Considering it's literally half the price I think it's fine.
I'll look at getting. The OLED when the deck 2 comes around but there's 0 reason to think this isn't a perfectly servicable option for those on a budget.
Bought the Asus Ally...returned it in a day cuz it kept crashing. Bought a steam deck oled next. Runs so smoothly and can't put it down. For a 1280x800 res. It looks fucking phenomenal
showed the 512gb but said it was the 256gb on sale 11:30
My best buy is on sale 550 new for ally extreme but micro center i can get a Lenovo legion Go 2tb for 650.
Thank you for the honesty đ
Looking forward OLEd model
OG steam deck still rules đđrip switch
spot on
cant wait for the new steam deck 2, hope they will make on future.
What if you wanted a steam deck?.
And an rog Ally. Or something like that usually get the steam deck first or the rog Ally
I have gotten to the point where I watch Jimmy's videos just to give him thumbs down. I think he makes them to show off all the toys he owns. Get whatever SteamDeck you can afford and enjoy it. Upgrade when or if you can afford it and simply have fun.
I already bought the 64GB steam deck which is good for me since a lot of my games that work on the steam deck are either 5gbs or 2gb games which I will get a sd card
Asus has always had horrible CS I think that's their business practice.
Just to let you know, there is a battery that is twice the size of the original steam deck battery on Amazon for like $50 goes from the original fully charged 10 hours to the new battery about 21 hours
Will it fit in the lcd steam deck ?
If you wanna spend less and you don't go anywhere with it just get a lcd 64gig I did it and have zero regrets. I get why the oled is better but the lcd is still good. I play mine non stop.
Iâve only ever played forza 5 on my steam deck OLED. Excited to try it on my pc now.
Too late got 3 steamdecks!!
hopefully an OLED
Just bought the 64gb for $315 out the door. It ended up being $260 less than the 512gb OLED after tax. Thats an 85% increase in price! I got a 512gb sd card for $35. Should be good to go til I decide to upgrade the ssd.
I just couldnât justify paying almost double for the Deck OLED. I have a switch OLED but Nintendo only charged $50 or 15% more for it.
No one should buy another SSD for more storage on there ROG ALLY this company havenât even mentioned there F-up and now people have to shell out more money to fix there issues naw we canât allow companies like that to fuck us we must hold them accountable
In my opinion the oled isnât a enough of improvement to not buy the LCD while itâs on sale until Steam deck 2 comes out the LCD is still a great choiceâŠgreat video tho
Forza 5 did run good at one point on the steamdeck with graphic settings set to high with a fps cap at 40 with no problems, but after the lastest rally dlc it hasnt been running as good as it once did...
really? it runs at a locked 60 on low settings and it looks pretty good
idk i guess i dont notice the low settings on it like
most people do
fprza 4 Superiority anyway
Yeah, I don't know what happened but it's jank now
That's an L take from you man. I'd still get the steam deck even if it where more expensive.
I said to buy the OLED or a higher capacity LCD instead??????????????????????????????
I love my deck. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have time for my overdue games
I was only able to enjoy Forza 5 when I overclocked . Mostly medium settings and 45fps but itâll stilll dip in very specific parts of the map
such a bummer
Look i think the ally is cool and all but 300 bucks for a steam deck is a no brainer
yea but the OLED is so much better that I think it's worth paying extra $ for that over the $300 LCD
@@DeckReady I get that I mean I want a Oled too, but well some people can't afford that and just rather get the LCD model. And a 300 dollar PC that can also play re4 remake in 40 fps is value for some people. I know interested since her computer broke.
ROG plays older games which I have. I really enjoy it some Steam games don't work on the Deck but I enjoy the Deck as well
Just curious, which older games run on the ROG but not the Deck?
@@mnmlkd Obscure,Velvet Assassin but it runs on an older Nvidia Physx , Just Cause 2
unsubbed , i disagree heavily. The asus is horrible and full of spyware with windows as well as alot more cpu and over heating issues but the steamdeck is perfect.
this video is misleading into the steamdeck seeming quite bad when it is NOT
watch the segment at 10:24 which is what the thumbnail and title are about
Hmm. I donât care for this advice. The sale price is very attractive and the Deck has a great track record.
I have bazzite os on my Rog ally is basically a more powerful steam deck, everything works great except docked on a tv is kinda glitchy
But the battery is better and sleep mode is as great as a Nintendo switch
It's like why can't they just take the LCD ones just upgrade it make it worth buying.
I disagree. Theses LCD deck gives you the most for the buck. I own a OLED Deck but still think the 512Gb LCD is the better deal.
I am with you, I still rock my OG LCD 64 GB Steam Deck and it's running like a G. I upgraded the m.2 to 512GB and have not looked back. I even did thermal pad mods to lower temps. With that mod I have not seen temps above 75 degrees at full power 15watts with CyberPunk 2077. I love it!
@@Pops-DA-SalorMan hell yeah! deck has been so good to me for a year and a half now
I have the 64GB and oled. Agreed, the LCD still comes in at good value for the price. The better battery life is nice though and I have to clear user data on my 64 from the last update
They're both great but the OLED's performance bump makes it worth it (for me)
Forza horizon 5 ran horribly on my steamdecks micro sd card but running it on the internal SSD was much better for texture streaming.
Steam deck is cheap in usa and Canada đšđŠ but in Asia the 400$ for 64g and 586$ for 512gb lcd after steam deck lcd going to be rare the price will be bigger than the oled model
Iâve seen 1tb 2230 ssd from reputable brands for like $80 nowadays
Look at our X1 Mini!đ
If you can afford the oled get that instead but the 64gb lcd is the best bamg for buck its cheaper to buy that and upgrade the sdd yourself than buy the 512gb
Jimmy, try a never version of proton Ge and Forza 5 runs mostly at 60 fps most of the time at high settings. Give it a try.
good tip I'll give it a shot
Forza horizon 5 runs great on the steam deck, I get above 40 fps consistently and it looks good on the oled
$450 refurbished is too much. They were on sale brand new for $399 last week. For a windows machine, I'll get a laptop. My steam deck is good enough.
SteamOS invalidates every other handheld. I don't care at ALL about performance. They're all a downgrade from a gaming pc. But Windows on a handheld sounds hellish and I will never consider a handheld running it.
the steam deck channel telling people not to buy the steam deck
He wants those review units for free from Asus, gotta make sure they hear this stuff loud and clear. Unfollow and block
Watch the whole video, he said the oled model is worth the higher price over the discounted lcd model. He didn't say not to buy a steam deck.
if you watch the part of the video where I talk about the sale you will see that I say to buy the OLED instead of the discounted model
@@chrismcpherson7582 I don't know how you can come to this conclusion when ~60% of the segment is complaints lol
Too late already bought the steamdeck and love it
Why tell people to support and buy from a company who shafts their customers?
Oh another ally review, steam deck still a great buy while on sale.
I bought it already đą
ROG in Australia đŠđș Is $1,100 AU on sale
that's unreal
Get the steam deck, itâs just better. Iâve heard the ally is more powerful this and that, if you need more power just get a desktop or a laptop, what do you expect from a handheld really? Also Asus has been screwing the customers over and over, donât enable or support that behavior.
Wheres the rog army, wheres gothic slayer
Nah the deck is a much better purchase, what store will you be buying from?
The only way I would have got the ROG is if I was still a real PC gamer, now days I have so little time Iâm more than happy with an LCD Deck. It even plays literally every game I wanted to play, even to this day games I want o play that recently released it can handle.
The ROG is decent but itâs trash unless you want o do game pass. Then yeah get the ROG.
But itâs on salllleeee
Sold me on the OLED Steam deck
I have an original Deck so that screen ain't the best
OLED is so good. I should have put that story first lol
Hey this is Deck ready not Ally ready, no?
ya I figured people were into both handhelds but it's all good if they just want deck news. live and learn!
Too late đź
This like saying (don't buy samsung galaxy for giving you updates 7 years old but buy rog phones prices bigger price than iPhone without updates less than 2 year's đ
reccomending the rog over steamdeck is crazy
Some of us aren't broke like you and can afford both.
I didn't do that tho?
Umm. I'm really happy with my SteamDeck thank you lol.
Yea I donât know why these nerds believe that a handheld console is supposed to be some crazy machine, I donât care if the screen is lcd or the battery is shit when u play AAA games, I just want something to use on the plane and play some random indie games. Iâm not gonna pay up the ass for something just to play the same games at hardly better quality.
......and other gaming handhelds.......but named the channel deck ready.......
The thing is so powerful, I want to play in turbo mode and so therefore the battery is abysmalâŠđ€Šââïž
I thought this was about the steamdeck. but just another ROG ally review one of many on your channel. Yawn.
Enough with Rog Ally already.
