If you end up checking out the wall-hanging listing on my Etsy shop, note that we made a few minor changes to the way they will be made. Love the transformation! I personally would leave the sofa uncovered. The white cover makes the sofa stand out and the focal point of the room, whereas when it is uncovered it drops to the background and the pretty white cabinet and chairs became the focal point.
Excellent observation!
😊
The tan couch is throwing off your cottage style. & sticks out like a sore thumb. The color is not in not your theme.i like it covered.
Love the chairs! I don’t think it is the color of the couch that is off so much as the style- it’s not vintage or farmhouse like the rest of your furniture. That being said, I too have a recliner (brown leather) in my white slip covered living room and it makes my husband so happy!
I love the idea of covering my leather sofa recliner too but wonder how you keep the cover from sliding down... I was given a 3 piece recliner set and really don't like the looks of it (but still grateful for the gift!)💕
Leather would've been pretty!!😊
I don't think most women like recliners. It seems to be a man thing.😊 I prefer the soa covered. You can purchase fitted sofa covers. I have one because we have a small dog who is allowed on the sofa. The covers don't need the continuous readjusting as throws do. Beautiful room as always.
I don't understand why they can't add recliners to a sofa AND make it look pretty. Maybe some of us women should design some furniture! 😉
Pretty room now and will be beautiful for Fall. I would not cover the sofa.
Husband's are worth their weight in gold if they are like mine. Giving in to them is always worth it!! Plus, it will grow on you when you see how much he enjoys it!! Great job. I love your work!!
The round table turned out beautiful! Goes nicely with the plaid recliners. The sofa does look better once you added the jute rug. If I could humbly suggest putting a larger picture above the the new sofa since it has a larger scale than the old one. Perhaps a lovely oil painting of a landscape with soft greens and browns. Beautiful artwork adds so much warmth and coziness to a home especially if it reminds you of a place or something you love.
Love it when it’s covered since white is your color and more monochromatic decor.
The living room refresh looks great. Maybe cover the sofa in spring and summer for a lighter look and uncover it in fall and winter for a warm, cozy look. I think the darker color will look nice with fall pillows. Painting the fan blades black is brilliant! Isn't it funny how a simple change makes such a big difference?! As always, thanks for sharing. 😊
No I wouldn’t cover a new sofa! Love the table and fan makeover. The new furniture looks beautiful in your room and the rug is perfect!
Personally, I love the spread on the couch. It goes with the new chairs so much better. Brightens up the room. Excellent makeover!!
I think that the tan colour of the couch adds warmth to the room especially for fall. It also matches the wood tones in the room.
Love the changes Mary, most especially the chairs and table in front of the window, wow, simply gorgeous.
I think it would be so nice if you put an electric fireplace in your living room, it would make it so cozy. You are a talented lady Mary. 💕
Hi Mary. Love the changes you’ve made in your living room. It looks really beautiful! I’m sure all of the guys in your home will love the reclining sofa. I like it both ways as far as covered or not. Maybe covered for spring and summer, and not for fall and winter. It would give you a more cozy, moody look for colder months. ~Cathy
Great idea. Winter warm dark and cozy.
Great idea!! 👍
Good idea Cathy because I also have white bedspreads for fun on my couches LOL and a drop cloth!
I like the little round table between the two plaid chairs which I like too 😊 the reclining couch those are very comfy but I would cover it also lol
An interior designer friend of mine once told me it takes 2 weeks for your eyes to get used to new decor. I would recommend uncovering your sofa and give yourself some time to get used to the different color. You can always draw out the colors you want with your beautiful pillows that you make.
Your home is beautiful and I love the updated table. The base design is unique. And your chairs are very stylish. Let there be a touch of masculine in the room, leave the couch as is. Men just love those recliner chairs. Let them dirty them up. Your white cover with men, you'll be cleaning it weekly.
Such a nice room refresh! I get it about reclining sofas, guys love them! I would leave the cover off. It might get messy after sitting on it. Your new chairs are perfect and I love the table between them!
I love the new living room look! I, personally, like the new sofa uncovered, with the light pillows. It might be less to tidy up after guys sitting on it, as well. Beautiful work, Mary!
Yes and "draping" a light blanket (or 2) over the back or sides (like the one you showed) with light pillows will disguise the color more and still blend in with the rest of the decor.
That's what I was going to say! lol
Love the make over. For me I would leave the chesterfield without the cover. Love the chairs and table.
Your room looks very nice , with the exception of the covered sofa. Definitely gives a vibe of making a silk purse out of a sows ear.😊 The style of the sofa would not be my choice, however I’m sure your family finds it quite inviting, looks very comfy! I like to decorate and I can relate to family wanting cozy over aesthetic 😊. Just go with it exposed and celebrate all that the room has to offer.
that is EXACTLY what I was thinking but didn't know how to word it. Perfect explanation. Covering is what you do to a worn sofa, not a new one!!
You do such a wonderful job decorating your home! I would keep it uncovered. It looks great with the white pillows! You just need to get use to the new look. It will function better uncovered and will always look neat. Enjoy the room!!!
The room looks lovely! I would definitely cover it! I’m sorry you couldn’t find a color you liked. The two recliners are very pretty and fit the room!
❤ love the couch covered. The recliners are beautiful. The living room is lovely, I like the white and bright
The only problem with covering the couch is that every time someone sits on it the cover moves and gets messed up. Then when they get up you have to fix and smooth it again. I'd get tired of doing that!😀❤️
Love the couch covered ❤
The couch would look great in a light but the spread on it just doesn’t look nice. I’d probably use light colored pillows and throws on it. Love the chairs!
Well if John is going to use recliner function it should be uncovered. You could just dress it up with pillows and throws.
Yes, the throw will be annoying every time he tries to recline.
i can’t imagine the cover on the couch working for your family with a recliner sofa. I’d return it and find one you can have custom upholstered. Or perhaps fabric paint ????
I would not cover it. To me it looks like you’re trying to cover up the old beat up sofa we all had when we first married!!!!!
I agree the couch just isn’t working . It doesn’t really go with your whole esthetic. Everything else is amazing. I love those recliner chairs. Those totally work.
No cover on the new couch. That would drive me crazy keeping it properly covered. Everything is beautiful as always.
I would leave the sofa uncovered. It is beautiful!
The room looks so cozy. I love the 2 chairs with the table in between. Personally, I like the sofa uncovered.
What a beautiful make over. I love the covered sofa but think I'd drive myself nuts trying to straighten it every time someone had sat on it. That table is gorgeous!!! I think I'm going to try making one of the magnetic frames as I'm on the other side of the world so can't order one from you, Mary! But thanks for the great idea. 👍
Hi Mary! Lovely living room makeover, beautiful round table, perfect for between the two new reclining chairs. I personally like the main sofa covered in white, it looks more cohesive and light. The jute rug is perfect to incorporate everything and it looks great!! As always, it's a joy to watch your videos. Thank you!!
Hi Mary! Your living room refresh looks beautiful! Honestly, I like the sofa uncovered. It adds a bit of the warmth to the room. Also as some folks commented earlier, if left uncovered it would be less work straightening up after use. Thanks for always inspiring us with your projects! Love from KS!
The living room looks great with the jute rug and I love the plaid recliners! The round table turned out adorable too. For the sofa, I think I would fold the bedspread neatly over the upper part of the back of the couch and keep the light colored pillows. That way, it still lightens up the space and softens the look of the couch, but you don't have to worry about the guys getting the white bedspread dirty.
@marie19037, I totally agree with the pillows and bedspread folded it would still give it the lighter effect she wants.
I prefer the covered sofa. The table that you refinished looks very nice. Good job Mary.
Leaving the sofa uncovered would probably be more practical. White pillows provide contrast and really brighten it up. I love your living room decor.
The room looks great! I would leave the couch uncovered. It looks nice and also you’ll go crazy readjusting the blanket all the time as it will shift all over when the recliners are used and may even get caught in the reclining mechanism. ❤
I love your new chairs and the round table between. I prefer the style of your old sofa much more. But with the cover it fits better. All together looks so nice with your blankets, flowers and all the lovely details.
I love the new look in the living room, and I know your menfolk will love the reclining chairs and sofa (it's a guy thing). I like the sofa without the cover--it looks neater without the cover and you won't have to continuously readjust the thing after someone has sat on it. Use your cute pillows and throws to make it seasonal. Blessings.
I like the sofa uncovered. Love the new living room. I am always impressed with your ability to make things beautiful so effortless.
Oh Mary your living room turned out so beautifully!!! When you covered the couch it really brightened up the room !!
You are a good wife for agreeing on a sofa that you do not like. I am sure the guys in your family will enjoy the reclining function. No doubt, you will make lemonade out of lemons. Blessings.
Uncovered, Mary. With the pillows and throws the sofa blends with the other pieces. Beautiful room!
I much prefer the couch with the chenille cover over it. Love the new recliner chairs, and the side table turned out lovely. It all looks so cozy and welcoming. As always, Mary, you've done a beautiful transformation in the living room.
I like the sofa uncovered. The darker tone adds warmth to the room.
My husband wanted leather recliners for years. I finally broke down after 40 years of marriage. No they were not my choice but now after 3 years I have finally found farmhouse accents that make me happy. If your husband is like mine he has earned them by supporting my antiques and junk because it makes me happy. Leave them uncovered and enjoy.mine were the priciest sofa and loveseat I have ever purchased but he earned them.
Mary your living room looks beautiful. I wouldn't cover sofa but I do like the idea of a white throw. Everything you have done with it is gorgeous!!
Your new living room looks right out of a magazine. 😅
Your new living room looks right out of a magazine. 😅 5:02
❤ the chairs!
true
Mary, congratulations on the new living room furniture. I know the color doesn’t look great to you, however when you put everything together & did the decoration, it looks really nice. I like the sofa without the bedspread on it.
The two recliners are so pretty! The entire decor looks really nice; the rug looks perfect in that space, as well as the round table in between the recliners.
I sympathize Mary as I too have a new reclining sofa that makes my very tall husband happy, me not quite so much. 🤫 The little recliners are just lovely. A beautiful result as usual. Thankyou for sharing.
Hi Mary, Love to start my day with your relaxing and creative videos. My vote is to leave the couch uncovered.
Agree with someone who suggested light pillows rather than having to wrestle a bedspread after or during use. Thanks for all you do! Carole
Love everything. I would not cover the sofa. I have experienced nothing but constantly trying to straightening a mess. It looks good with the wing back colors. And your decor looks great, the rug was a good choice to help blend things together.
However you like the couch is how you should have it. And what will work with your family. Love the new chairs.
Love what you have done! I am for leaving the couch uncovered.
I really love your new chairs and the table makeover is beautiful. The sofa I prefer covered with the chenille bedspread. Easy to take it off and wash it if it gets dirty and it definitely is a more cottage look. Loved the makeover!
Mary, everything looks beautiful! The only reason a cover doesn't always work because as soon as someone sits on it, it starts to come off and bunched up. Been there and it drove me crazy 😊 And I'm totally with you, I'm very much stubbornly holding on to summer! I live in Mn and I truly dislike winter! Lol
I think the sofa Colour is fine maybe just putting lots of pillows and light coloured throws. Absolutely love the table makeover.
Your new signs are really nice. I think your room looks pretry. I would agree the beautiful bedspread might be cumbersome with the recliner.
I love everything about your living room! I prefer the cover on the couch but understand how much work it would take to keep tidy. Everything looks so beautiful together!💕 Wonderful job as always Mary!😍
It really brightens the room with the white throw. Really like the new chairs and love the way the table turned out.
I like the sofa best without a blanket. Too much "stress" with a dressed sofa. Cushions on the sofa are both practical and nice, I think. Congratulations on new and beautiful furniture ❤
The detail of the wood base of that table, no wonder you chose it, wow. The paint really shows it off.
I think the sofa looks great uncovered! It beaks up some of the white, and adds another neutral to play off of.:)
Your living room is delightful! As for me, I would return the brown sofa and keep looking until I found the one that really worked. The bedspread cum slipcover will slip and slide until it drives you to distraction.
Mary, your living room looks so pretty! I love the two chairs I just wish they were bigger. Our family is very tall. Honestly, I would not cover the couch. I think it looks nice either way, but I think the cover is going to become a pain for your guys when they want to recline the sofa and relax you are going to always be fixing it. And I think the tan color looks really nice with all the wood tones in the room.
I like the sofa uncovered too! Love the transformation, change is always nice, you will get accustomed to it!
I adore it covered with the bedspread you have in place! It looks so fresh and country. Your tone on tone colors with the pops of green is delightful =)
Lovely as ever🥰 We have a similar recliner sofa in a chocolate brown, it's now covered in a cotton ticking throw, which I'm forever having to reposition but it's so much more easy on the eye!
I don’t know about anyone else, but I love to hear you talk in Dutch 😊
I love the sound of those Crickets cicadas the nighttime sounds that reminds me of a long time ago on my grandmothers place at night
Looks really nice! Love the plaid chairs! And the table you refinished too!
Everything looks really nice. The table turned out beautiful. You always do a great job and you have inspired me once again. ❤
Hi Mary,I love the living room transformation, I honestly think the sofa would look better without the cover! I love the recliners and the bleached and white table! God bless,Christine!
With your fall colors I’d keep the new couch uncovered. Come winter covering it would make it feel cozy and warm.
Gorgeous! I love the way you decorate and the table turned out beautiful!!
Mary your living room turned out so beautiful! I love everything you did, I love the chairs! I like the couch covered! Your decorating always looks so warm and inviting and comfortable! Jill
I prefer it uncovered. It picks up the color of the top of the coffee table and also the wood of the magnetic poster hanger. I LOVE white but I just feel like uncovered looks best. It will also be more functional uncovered. Of course it’s your home and you do what brings you the most joy.
I like the sofa uncovered. It brings a bit more warmth to the room. I also love the chairs! Everything looks great.
Definitely uncovered!! I'm curious what John thought of his new couch being covered up and what a pain to recline with the cover! Your room looks nice in this transition season!
Once again you’ve done a beautiful job! I like the couch covered! You can always remove the throw at different periods! The table is perfect and came out great. Thanks for the inspiration❤
The room is gorgeous. The throw over the sofa is a win! 🤍🤍🤍🤍
Uncovered 👍🏻 embrace your new sofa and the beautiful contrast it creates against so many white, light colored surroundings ☮️💟🙏🏻
I love this! You did such a good job. The couch looks so pretty and cozy with the chenille spread.
Like it covered. Room looks brighter.
Uncovered. Put on your white and beige pillows. White throw across the couch. It will look awesome Mary. Love your new chairs. Beautiful space you've created.
I like the couch covered. It helps keep it clean, too. I use pet covers. Not as pretty, but helps with pets.
Love the new change to your living room. Loving the lavender poster picture above the sofa. So pretty! I like the sofa covered with the white . ❤
Mary the room turned out beautiful as always and I really love the table. I also liked your plaid comfy chairs. I would leave the couch uncovered, the cover takes away from the loveliness of the room and made me think that something is wrong with the couch(if I didn’t know better). Dress the couch with beautiful light colored pillows in whites, green and maybe even yellow. I would like to say though, this is your house and you do you, doesn’t matter what we think. You always do such a wonderful job.
Love the room and the color of the couch, adds a nice contrast!! Do not cover looks cheap and makes you think something awful is under the cover! Thank you, Valerie
Sometimes it just takes awhile to get used to something new. It is s little darker than what you had so thats probably throwing you off.
I love the two plaid recliners, the painted fan and table and how you accessorized. Maybe consider slip covers or getting your sofa reupholstered. You can get the color fabric you really like. I personally think covering a sofa or chair with a loose coverlet makes for frequent adjustments, so in the long run the expense of what I mentioned doing is well worth it.
I would have just exchanged the sofa (KH) ?
Mary said it wasn’t the color she envisioned and many sofas have limited colors to choose from. She also mentioned her husband wanted this recliner sofa. So I thought the next best options were the ones I suggested.
Personally I would leave the couch uncovered. Everything looks beautiful 😍
Definitely love how you dressed the new couch. I love your work, I love you.
May God continue to bless and use you to inspire people like myself who you inspire.
It looks prettier covered…but that is less practical. I would go shopping in person for a new sofa and create a masculine man cave somewhere for this sofa. Being artsy myself…not liking something in my home can be so stressful. Praying God gives you wisdom to find something you both love!
It's a good compromise, and I love your beautiful voice. It always makes me smile and relax. Your positive energy is the best, Mary, and I have to go and get some of your candles already. It is time to do that. John is very blessed, and you also have such a beautiful family.
I like the sofa uncovered much better. Absolutely beautiful!
Love the living room with the exception of the couch cover, makes it look chunky with the cover…love the recliners and table in the window❤️
Your house is inviting because you take the time to make it just so. And you and your family are the warmth factor. The sofa is definitely a LOVE item and shows us all how much you respect your husband's opinion - it just is not your style at all nevermind the color.
Beautiful make over! I understand about getting used to the darker color on the new sofa. Personally, I would not cover it. Trying to keep the cover tidy would drive me crazy. I think adding light colored pillows and throws would lighten up the look and do the trick for now and the darker color will look cozy during fall and winter. Painting the fan blades was a great idea.
I actually love the way the sofa looks covered. Gives it a very farmhousey feel. It all turned out lovely!!!
I personally love the new color of the sofa, I think it pulls out the detail in the side chairs.
Your new living room looks beautiful Mary! I think men gravitate towards recliners, my John definitely does. It wouldn't be my choice either but I'd probably uncover it, and use pillows and throws instead to doll it up!
Lovely! Guys need their reclining sofas, so we need to respect that. It's so hard to find good colors now!!!! But the dark works good for big boys. I like like it both ways, but keeping the cover on a reclining sofa is the biggest pain. Love the table. The chairs are way cute!!!!! Love the wall hangings!
I love the new look. I really enjoy all the white, so for now with hanging on to summer keep the sofa covered, when you move into fall, uncover it for more warmth.
I like it uncovered. You can always just put white or light-colored throws on it to lighten it up. Everything looks very nice!
I like the sofa uncovered - the colour of it is great with the wooden accents in your room. Having it covered means always having to straighten the cover which is a pain.
I like sofa covered! Everything looks refreshing and beautiful!!!🌿
The room looks fabulous Mary…I especially love your wing back chairs. I’m undecided about the sofa, covered it looks nice but it blends in the background uncovered as well…🥰🇦🇺
With the cover on the sofa it makes it look more cottage style
