How precious is Alika, she was so gentle and it looked like she wanted to cuddle. It's sad to see Effie appearing to be struggle with motherhood, so it's nice to see that this baby can get lots of love from a big sister. Maybe like Toto and Sumomo's relationship. đđđŠ
Yes! Effie has been doing ok considering the past. Itâs better for the baby to be raised in the troop then hand reared! But lil Eff is such a pretty baby! đ
Poor baby she just wants somebody to cuddle her . Effie is motherless with no affection towards the baby. She does not even want to be touched by her. Effie pushed the baby on that branch and it had points in the branch. The keepers should watch her.
Effie's little one is absolutely adorable. I am glad there is another mother in the troop who is amazing. Hopefully Mjukuu can give some motherly love to Effie's baby in the near future.
Effie doesn't seem to want to be a mother. She leaves the baby for extended periods of time, and blocks her from cuddling and eating. I feel bad for the little one.
I just recently started watching this troop, so I won't be too judgemental BUT .... Effie seam to be disconnected as a new mom. I imagine the keepers are monitoring the baby though. Reminds me of another troop I watch via these fantastic CZcams videos, where two new mothers in the same troop couldn't be more different.
Unfortunately, you haven't seen all my videosđ There are a few of them showing Effie breastfeeding her babyđ„° Effie's baby looks healthy and chubby!
That is just beautifulâŁïžđ If you watch carefully, without judgement, two things happened there: firstly, Effie became very alert and was observing very closely as Liâl Eff approached Alika and, secondly, Alika remained very still and allowed the baby to touch and smell her without attempting to pick the baby up or disturb it in any way. I believe the baby is around 6 months old now, which is a perfectly appropriate age for it to begin exploring a little and experiencing some gentle interaction with the rest of the family. Baby was close enough for mum to step in if there was any danger.†Also, there was a video recently that showed Effie breastfeeding Liâl Eff for a long time. She was in the background of the main action, but she was holding baby and caressing his head - I think it was on the Cute Animals channel. I noticed there were very few comments on that video⊠đ€·ââïž I get so much enjoyment from channels like this one. I find the behaviour of the gorillas fascinating and try not to judge because theyâre gorillas, not humans. I trust that the gorillas know best how to be gorillas, that the zoo staff know best how to care for their gorillas and that we distant observers are only seeing short glimpses of the gorillasâ lives. Iâm very grateful for the videos, but they donât make me a gorilla management expert! Maybe people would enjoy the videos more if they tried observing the gorillas for the amazing creatures they are, rather than looking for things to criticise and get worked up about. â€đ
I'm not an expert on this troupe but Mom Effie is very alert and quick to react to any threats in the few videos I have seen. She was literally with gorilla arms reach of the baby while she was exploring with Alika and watching closely. The baby appears to be healthy as well.
The London Zoo has created amazing conditions for gorillas: a large area with evergreen grass, lots of trees and bushes as well as a wonderful play area. The gorillas also have a large room (hidden from the eyes of visitors) and a glassed room (which also has ropes and hammocks for resting and playing). czcams.com/video/DptJgh23-yQ/video.html
@@ritar83The zoo is aware of Effieâs aversion to raising her babies. I assume that they will step in if necessary. Then again, they havenât even named the little nippers yet so đ€·ââïž

When she fell over the rope I thought she was going to start crying and mama was gonna come running!

Thank you for watching! Mothers in this troop are indeed very different. Mjukuu is overprotective while Effie is not as tactile and affectionate.

If the mother rejected the baby would be dead...too bad human parents do not realize their children need to be self reliant.

Wot a horrid thing to say about a wee animal
it would be nice if the birthdates of each gorilla were listed here on this webpage

Maybe Mama Effie has Post Partum Blues or something.
This is her third baby & the one she has shown the most attention.
She rejected her first two babies.
She has poor mothering skills.
Sometimes they put mothers like that on birth control. Iâve seen other troops do that. I think they did that with Ai from Shabaniâs troop.
