    Great video, I had the same issue with my Redback boots. The heal and ankle were tight and cutting - but that was only for the first day of wearing it, then it broke in and I never had that issue again, even with the same sock. Great boots, fit and feel fantastic after the break in period. Oddly enough I bought a pair of the blue tab's that Redback also makes, they didn't have as much of a break-in period - they fit nearly perfect right away.
    One thing to note, is that Rose Anvil always states in his videos that he has very narrow/thin ankles - so the shoe opening and elastic of a Chelsea are going to make a huge difference on the fit of the upper part of the boot.

    Mine last me 1-3 years and I wear them about 350 days of the year or more. They actually wore out quickest when I was working in a deli doing nighttime deep clean. Concentrated sodium hypochlorite destroys pretty much everything. When I started working in minning and metal fabrication they lasted a lot longer before starting to fall apart.
    They are super comfortable. I'd work 80+ hour weeks on my feet between 2 jobs and they'd still be my first choice of shoe on the weekend, going for a walk, hiking, camping, even going overseas.
    I have "casual" shoes for when workboots aren't socially acceptable. Hell I even wore a brand new pair to my wedding and my wife wore white cowgirl boots because she always wanted to lol.
    They are not great in snow or ice but being Australian and not from Tasmania I've only seen snow about a dozen times in my life and that's a dozen times more than many of my friends.

    At my shop(mechanic), 6-7 of us have redback boots. The back of your ankle rubbing is the first I’ve heard of. That’s interesting. For myself, the boot puts a lot of pressure on my instep. I’ve needed to use thinner socks or a thinner insole. Overall, they’re really good. I’ve had mine for 2yrs and I’ve still haven’t worn out the back outer heel. I’ve had Red Wings that have lasted less than my Redbacks.

    First of all, I appreciate the balanced nature of this review, and how well he discussed issues he had with his Redbacks. I bought my Redbacks and found from get-go they were the most comfortable boot I have ever worn. After three years of regular wear, I have no complaints and amazingly little sign of wear compared to previous experience with Blundstones. My next pair of Chelsea boots will be Redbacks for sure.

    I have had 4 pairs of RBs that I have worked in 10/10 recommend. I have a tan pair and black pair now I like to have choices! I’ve never had an issue with break in, no fatigue nothing bad at all. Let me tell ya I had redwing wedge boots which I liked but my knees paid a price and it went into my lower back picked up my first pair of RBs and it changed everything 8 years of a happy customer and I’ll continue buying. I wear a size 11 so I got a aus 10 fit is perfect!!! And one more thing everyone has ariats,redwings,thorgoods, timbs in my area and never see another pair unless I’m in a shop setting

      I think they are great boots. Really well made. It is nice you fit into the group that they were perfect on first hop!
      There seems to be a small subset of us that just take a little longer to break the boots (or our tolerance) in for comfort.
      I would buy them again.

    As an Australian, the price the US and Canada pay for these boots is a bit much. I can get most models of Redback and Blundstone chelsea work boots for around $130 AUD. I've actually moved away from the chelsea boot at work, Blundstone 997 is way more work friendly.

    The leather on these boots are approximately 3mm, thicker than others, which I assume is a good thing making them more durable long term. The leather in others reviewed on the "Rose Anvil" channel are 2mm thick (Blundstone, etc). Just received my pair and they seem really stiff causing me to search CZcams for other's opinions. Given this, I'm expecting a long break-in period. I have some discomfort at the top collar area as well, but not a concern at this point. They seem to have heavy, solid construction which is what sold me on this brand and given Anvil's review. Thanks for posting.

    I had the same issue with break in, back of the ankle was bad for a few days. Apart from that they’ve been good boots, plenty comfortable but nothing special like some claim.
    They’ve lasted longer than my regular redwings, which is about 6 months. These have gone a little longer. I use boots for work and lots of walking on concrete. Wear them 60+ hours a week, easily.
    I’ve put some SnoSeal on them and they’ve been surprisingly well waterproof.
    I will say the insole sucks, I destroyed it in no time and bought the redback leather insole and it’s been fine. IMO it should come in the boot, that sucker is pricey.
    I probably want buy any more, I like some ankle support and obviously you don’t get that without a lace up boot.

    I bought the Blundstone safety boots, and they were very painful to wear for quite a while. Not sure that I would recommend them. I also have a non-safety pair of the Redbacks, and I had no issues with them. Maybe they would have a break in period if they were safety boots. They are obviously a bit of a stiff encasing boot, but all these types of boots are that way. But....not rewarding Blundstone and the Chinese with your money is a good move.

  • @davidpalmer9014
    @davidpalmer9014 Před 2 lety +1

    Huh. I had no break-in issues with my Great Barriers. I do have a few minor complaints though. The outsole is kind of ugly, compared to Blundstone. If I wear regular cotton tube socks, they slip off my feet when I walk in these. No idea why. Thicker wool socks don't present this problem. Otherwise, I think they are better than Blundstone, especially in comfort and leather quality. Just maybe not for fashion.

  • @esotericcommonsense6366

    Have the steel toe/toe cap versions of these and the same type of bluestones. I prefer these if standing on steel all day. Bluestones kinda fit loose even with thick wool socks. Just depends on what you want, never had the heel rub problems.

  • @muller08049
    @muller08049 Před 2 lety +3

    I love my red backs. They are like wearing sneakers. I wish the insole was leather though so they would conform to your foot better. Absolutely NO break in what so ever, great right out of the box. Leather is soft and supple, pretty thin actually. Not like a nick’s or whites or JK’s.

    No doubt that these will likely last longer than blundstones but the blundstones should be more comfortable and look sleeker.
    The warranty on blundstone is amazing from what i heard, so if your soles ever crumble then theyll likely ask you to destroy your pair and get a replacement.

    Interesting point, you mentioned that you wear 5.11 boots as well and the Redbacks were tricky to break in - could this be down to foot shape? Only asking because I cannot wear 5.11 boots, I find them too narrow and to get a pair that are wide enough I have to get a larger size than normal, even with wide fittings. I have the same problem with Timberlands and Salomon but have never had any issues with Redbacks (I have four pairs, three Chelsea and one lace up), they seem to fit my feet better.

    Just picked some of these up. Everyone and the mother says they are the most comfortable boots since the coming of Christ.
    First time I put them on I actually laughed at how uncomfortable they are. The insole is very cushioned meaning it's takes away literally an inch of space inside. I can't wear them without extreme pain with the included insole. First time trying them on I took my foot out and all my toes and the top of my foot were red from just walking around my house.
    Next the inside is very primitive. I believe you mentioned it but there is no padding so the upper digs into the top of my ankle.
    They are new so I will see if they stretch out but I'm not too impressed so far.

      @@whattheduck2106I really do like them. I had to buy low profile insoles for them. The ones included take up way too much space for me. I have high arches so there was some discomfort at the top of my foot but as I wear them they have slowly, very very slowly gotten better. I've also beaten them with a mallet to try and soften up the leather on the top lol. I've worn them every day for the past two months though and really do enjoy them.

    • @mbwoodbutcher
      @mbwoodbutcher  Před 2 lety +1

      The sizing on these is that each size has a specific length, the 1/2 size just increases the width.
      With the size “10”(equivalent to North American 10) it was just making too much contact with my big toe standing.
      The size equivalent to North American 11 was perfect. Maybe a bit too wide but length is good for my foot.

    If wear 11 and you have a wide foot then you will have to go a half size up 11 1/2 is the same length as a 11 but wider. And they use the UK sizing so that would be 10 1/2.

First 2 pairs were worn for over 10 years each working in the classroom teaching all day long. Last 2 pairs of Blundstones are great for the construction job site. Happy happy. Move I’ve got my Redbacks and they feel just more cushion’y’. And yes, they like a thicker sock. For winter I just wear a thicker pair of Merino wool socks.
