20 year old men are not typically ready for marriage. It's one thing if you are just thinking about smashing. But financially, your leadership skills, experience, basically any and everything you need to be responsible for a family is obtained in your early 30s and 40s as a man. While the things men seek in a woman are typically there in her 20s. Men and women are different and seek different things in life. It seems to me like the brotha is looking at it from a female perspective. Through out history, and in every culture, husbands have always been older than wives. Hence the term bride and groom. A man is supposed to groom his wife. He is the leader.
