I’ve driven the Toyota and rode in the KIA. The difference is night and day when it comes to smoothness and the way each vehicle made you feel. KIA feels far more luxurious and it’s definitely much quieter than the Toyota. I see bunch of people here commenting about the great Toyota reliability and how terrible the KIAs are. These are the same people who have never owned a late model KIA and form their opinions on other narrow minded people

Kia has engine and transmission problems. As I mentioned, that 1.6L with turbo will wear out much faster than Toyota’s 2.5L and the Toyota ECVT is bulletproof

The Toyota engine is normally aspirated with no turbo to break. The ecvt in the Toyota is just engineering simplicity at its finest. There are no clutches; there are only two motor generators and a couple of gears to give torque, and the rear wheel drive portion doesn’t need a center lock because it’s a fully independent electric motor for AWD. Nicely modular with less to break. If it sounds like I’m telling sea stories, head on to Weber Auto and have the prof walk you through building the ecvt from the case up. That sold me on my rav4 and I think ecvts are the future in hybrids, not traditional transmissions.

There’s also the issue of parts, for where I live I’ll probably get a RAV4 as my next vehicle because parts for Kia, Honda, Hyundai and I think Subaru are very hard to get and because of that extra expensive. Ability to maintain the vehicle is also important.

The best comparative ever. I hate when the people say Toyota is better just because it’s “Toyota” When you can get more for less more space, more luxury, overall better ride. Rav4 its boring, ugly rims it’s a joke for what you pay for, you need to buy the Limited to get leather seats and nice rims almost 40k in the other hand you have a-lot more and no even the highest trim level on Kia. That’s why I bought my 2023 Kia Sportage EX and we Love it

The Kia wins, hands down. I've been researching for two months since my Outback died. The Tucson comes close, but the RAV4 doesn't. The Kia looks amazing and the tech is awesome. The rear leg room is a big differentiator for me, too, and the warranty.
Also, frankly, every other car on the road right now is a RAV4. I mean, it's great that they're a great car, but I really hate being part of what everyone else is doing, you know? It's like the preponderance of grey/silver cars on the road today--I just don't like it.

Which one is likely to still be running well at 300k miles?
All those electronics on the kia will die before 120k miles, assuming the engine doesn't die by then.
Kia's are well-known to start burning oil under 20k miles and no, Kia will not repair it.
Kia has a longer warranty for one reason: no one would buy it with a standard warranty but Kia is one of the worst companies for honoring their warranty.

Always have loved the RAV4 styling but that Kia has really won me over. Rear seat is more family friendly with the hard backs (kids kicking the seat) and having more space. I even think the rear usb placement is better for kids.
I love the front interior on the Kia too. The front to back cupholders are so much better for larger cups than the side by side and then you add the fact that you have the flexibility there too. For the price, the Kia just has much nicer materials.
Reliability, I’m sure the RAV4 wins…but I don’t keep my cars more than 3-4 years anyway. As long as I have warranty (which I would in the Kia for that long, but not in the RAV4), I’m happy.
Both RAV4 and Kia’s have ridiculous markup right now…so that part is a wash.

    • @nobodyimportant7804
      @nobodyimportant7804 Před rokem +3

Why waste money on a car every 3-4 years? You will end up significantly poorer at retirement because of unwise financial decisions like this.
Why encourage bad car makers to continue to make bad cars?
Last fall, I got a 22 RAV4 SE Hybrid for MSRP + taxes and registration, which sucks, but no markup on anything. Just like not buying a crap car from a crap car maker like KIA, don't buy from crap car dealers.
FYI: Kia is notorious for not honoring its warranty.

We recently bought a Kia Sportage SX Prestige hybrid. The only other hybrid we looked at was the redesigned Honda CRV hybrid. We did not look at the RAV 4 because of the styling. I have a 2019 Kia Optima EX with the 1.6 turbo, which was bought in October, 2018. I am not concerned about Kia/Hyundai reliability. The Sportage replaces a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. We had no problems with the Hyundai
We are very pleased with our purchase. The equipment on the car is unbelievable, such as the 360 degree camera, front and rear collision avoidance, etc. The ride is as good as any vehicle we have owned. We recently drove back and forth from Las Vegas to San Diego and were completely rested.
When I drive Sportage I average between 35 and 40 mile per gallon, my wife gets less. We bought the car not for the gas mileage, which is a plus, but because it is far better than the non-hybrid.

Both look great. A small feature that I like is the ability to pull back a screen cover in the hatch area on the RAV4 so as to hide what may be there when parking the car. Didn’t look like the Kia had that feature, but wish it did. I also have had Toyota Prius in past and have confidence in their a hybrid technology. That said, I do like the extra legroom in the back of the Kia. Expect to be in the market for this type of vehicle soon, and so it will be a tough choice.

The warranty exists to get people to accept the inferior parts, design and build of the KIA.
Which car is more likely to reach 300k miles with little to no repairs and which one is more likely to be junk by 100k? Unless you are leasing or the type to swap cars every 3-5 years, the answer is simple.
KIA is well-known for fighting tooth and nail to deny warranty claims.

Pricing point, very similar, but Kia has an edge. Styling, materials used, interior/tech, Kia wins hands down. MPG is pretty similar on both, so that's a tie. Reliability, Toyota is tested and proven, while Kia is still proving itself. Pricing wise, I have heard Kia dealerships marking up their vehicles significantly due to high demand, so will be looking into placing an order and waiting for build/delivery as it's my 2nd vehicle.

I rented a RAV4 and drove it for a long weekend. Perfectly fine and easy to drive but nothing great about it. Very competent and obviously reliable. I test drove the SX Hybrid Prestige. While it was only a short test drive, it was a much more enjoyable time. The tech is fantastic and it looks great. The ONLY thing holding me up at this point is I keep cars for 10-15 years and drive them north of 150k miles. I'm not completely convinced KIA is up to the Toyota level of reliability.

It is a fair comparison as different companies call out different model years well in advance. It’s likely Kia will come up with a 2024 model year early 2023 itself. That's the thing, if you notice the Rav4 has a 2.5L gas engine, the Kia has a smaller engine but is turbo charged, what this means is there is a lot more pressure on the Kia motor, which will result in a shorter life span. If you don't drive a lot of miles, and like to lease cars, then the Kia is a great option. If you purchase your cars and drive a lot of miles, the Toyota is a better option, as the motor is under less stress and lasts longer, and their resale value is much better.

The Toyota has a 2.5 liter engine, and isn't turbo charged, so it will last longer and be more reliable, there is far less stress on the Toyota motor to provide the same power as the kia motor. Turbo charged engines allow more oxygen into the cylinders so the explosion is more powerful thereby increasing power output, however this adds far more stress to the engine and decreases its life span, add to that that the smaller sized motor is being asked to produce the same power as the larger Toyota motor, and you can see the engine life on the kia will be far shorter than the Toyota. Another way to tell which vehicle will last longer is to look around while driving and see how many old (10 years or more) Kia's are on the road, I have seen any myself, but there may be some out there, Toyota on the other hand, they are all over the place, and for good reason.

Three big flaws with Toyota. 1. They are a facing a class action lawsuit because on their hybrids the wires underneath have been deteriorating in winter weather from the salt. 2. The inside looks CLUNKY and outdated whereas the kia sportage looks like its stepped into the future ( more luxurious) 3. Items that are standard on the kia require about 5 or 8 grand more on the toyota.
