MA Red Yellow Classic Pedestrian Signal with mast-arm

Only mast arm red/yellow signal left in existence, that also flashes green. Pretty neat to see this history in Salem at Beech street and Lafayette street.

This flashing green light is odd… I suppose an explaination is that it's syncronized with the repeater traffic lights for pedestrian (red-yellow-red). The flashing red at the bottom would warn the pedestrian that traffic has (flashing) green and wait for the red+yellow
EDIT: Another thing in my mind. They resemble some older beacons who used to be flashing green (instead of yellow) on main road and flashing red on side street so without pedestrian activity this crossing is like an unprotected one with beacons

It means pedestrians cross, do not enter the intersection
