Eine wunderschöne Kantate und Peter Harvey ist großartig und jetzt, im fortgeschrittenen Alter, passt die Stimme noch viel besser zu der Rolle des Simeon als beispielsweise bei der sehr viel früheren Aufnahme der Bach-Pilgrimage unter John Eliot Gardiner. Man merkt bei allen, dass es ein ganz besonderes Herzensprojekt ist, eine ganz eigene schöne sehr intime Atmosphäre, die man auch vor dem Bildschirm wahrnimmt.
Fantastische spirituele uitvoering van deze schitterende cantate. Wat een brille en spielfreude van het ensemble onder leiding van een geweldig inspirerende dirigent. Wat heerlijk om aan deze concerten muzikaal actief te kunnen bijdragen. Ik hoop er nog jaren van te kunnen genieten !!!!!!!!
Die Aufführung ist überirdisch schön. Das Schlummert Ein ist nicht von dieser Welt.

Hmm...a hard choice, to pick one or the other! Personally it's 'Schlummert'; more soothing and consoling to my mind. 'Mache dich' is more...bittersweet, perhaps?
I think Gardiner's recording with Harvey is top-notch--the best.

Wonderful version, with an amazing Peter Harvey. This version also does justice to the wonderful contribution of the oboeist, often neglected in many other performances. Small orchestra makes the music clear and transparent.

In German is "genung" an alternative form of "genug", meaning "enough" in English? Or is "genung" simply an error? An explanation here would be worthwhile.
"Genung" is archaic, or it seems to be. It is what Bach wrote in his manuscript.
"Genung" is indeed the original German word here. We would say "genug" today.
Therte is no word like "genung". You mean "genug", what means "enough".
„genung“ was locally correct high German. Bachstiftung uses the original spelling in the title and the music, but the modern correct spelling in the subtitles. This allows translations to other languages.
The intrsting thing about this sentence is, that it has tow meanings. 1. Genug = satisfied. plenty of life, reach my fortune so I agreed to give up my life and go peacefully.
2. "Ich habe genug" = Es ist genug" like to be tired of my life, happy to get rid of it. I like the fact that in spiritual context, talking to god, both versions make sense

@@Schleiermacher1000 Old german accent. Steht so in der Original Partitur. this means "authentische Aufführungspraxis". They try to do is exactly like they did in former times, when j.s. Bach was the conductor himnself. Using old insruments and so on. I find it intrestin, but nor shure if it 's possible to reach the original sound. We don' have a "Timemachine" to go back and listen to Bach's interpretation.....
i never bought a bachstiftung recording because of their incomprehensible lettering...
