- This is my story regarding receiving a notification that an Unknown Accessory was detected on me. I am very familiar with cases of Apple Air tags tracking individuals or being planted on cars, that are viral on TikTok.
I'm still waiting to hear back from Apple, hopefully this is just a glitch stemming from my boyfriend's airpods or airtags. If you watched this video I sincerely appreciate it!

I remember a youtuber said that he wasnt sure how others would feel about it, but he said that apple should just discontinue the airtags. That they produce more danger than good. And honestly i can kinda agree with that
Has it's pros and cons, if you hide one in your car and it gets stolen, you can track your car down.

I work private security at a university and we are actively investigating something like this. We have found through our own research that "Unknown Airtags" will take between 3-4 hours to actually notify its user that it is sensing it. This is a design feature so that every Airtag you walk by doesn't alert your phone.
EXACT same thing happened to me, except I got the notification at 2:25am. I was still awake at the time so imagine the horror of seeing that as you’re sat in a room in the dark alone. My “tracked route” indicated by the red line in Find My started like yours - exactly the same place I’d locked my bike even though there was no one around to put anything anywhere, and followed me exactly to my home. Multiple red dots right at the start and multiple right at the end. Scariest thing was that when it notified me, I tried pinging it and the goddamn thing was actually close enough for me to connect to! I didn’t hear any noises - it definitely wasn’t in my living space. But it definitely was close enough for my phone to connect to it and ping it for a locating sound. Still haven’t found the physical thing and i can no longer ping it. Terrifying stuff.

@@tarrabobarra Her friend forgot that she left it in my daughters car. Which was a major relief. We had our house completely locked and we slept with Easy access to our guns.
This happened to my wife. It was odd that it didn’t say AirTag. The next day when we opened it up on her phone the “unidentified “ tracker had updated to be my sons AirPods. These have traveled with her hundreds of times and never done this before and the fact that it took so long to update was ridiculous. Could just be your friends apple device.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. If you haven't been able to locate the airtag yet, you could get a clock radio, turn to a static station and move it around your belongings. It will cause an interference in the signals and you might be able to find the airtag. Hope you're safe and get the support you deserve!
Sounds like it’s his device being picked up by your phone. My daughter has one of my AirTags on her keys and whenever I drop her off at school, I get a notification a little while later that I’m no longer with that tag. There’s always a delay to the notifications. I have a ton of Apple products, so if I leave anything anywhere, it’ll tell me, but sometimes hours later.

I have exactly the same situation. Last past days I got these notifications about an airtag around me. So today I have found the airtag underneath my scooter. I took the battery out of the airtag and called immediately the none emergency police line and told my story. Now I have to wait for an update if this a common thing in my city when scooters get tracked by an airtag. I dont remember when I got my first notification and where this happen. I hope it will end all good for everyone with this same freaky problem!

I was in a room with friends for about an hour and they received a notification that there was a unidentified AirTag nearby them. I guessed it was mine because I recently had added one to my wallet, even though I have an Android phone as my main driver. I primarily use my iPad to keep track of my devices but I didn't bring it with me.
I'm not sure how it works or if it requires my linked iPad to notify other Apple devices that it's not unknown. But I figured that was why.
However, that was the only time it happened even though we were at the same table for a wedding, they never received that notification except for when we were in the same hotel room.
There needs to be an easier way to find these unknown devices or track who owns them.
This just happen 2 days ago for my mom, she sent me a screenshot of it and it shows the location where she went. It’s honestly scary.

I followed a link to your story from a NY Times article. I have several daughters and grandchildren, and I'm always concerned for their safety. I'm not real tech savvy, so I don't know what the purpose of Apple even making these tracking devices for in the first place. I guess, maybe, for parents could track their kid's? I don't know, but the possible bad intentions would be too concerning. Apple definitely needs to address this, and your concerns.

It's for people who lose their car keys and other objects.
Apple made them so that people like you and I can attach them to personal belongings such as wallet, car keys, luggage and whatnot so if those items are lost/stolen you can track them and find out what happened to them or find out where those items are. basically just like a vehicles gps or onstar but for smaller personal items. sadly though criminals will always use the most recent technology they have at their disposal in order to make criminal life easier while people like you and I go out and bust his/her asses daily in order to acquire things we want.

Hi Erika, my name is Harley. So today I have experienced the same exact situation as you. I arrived at work at 7:56am. I left work and got home around 2:50pm. I went to my pool and hung out for about an hour. Then I came back home and took a shower. While I was in the shower, I got a notification that an “unknown device” has been accessing my location since 8:01am. I’m confused because I wasn’t at my car at 8:01am. I’ve checked every where underneath my car, inside my exhaust, even inside my gas tank lid. I’ve checked my person even though I don’t carry much besides a water bottle, my phone, wallet, house keys, and AirPods. I’m unsure what to do. Apple customer service could not resolve the issue. I am worried even as a male.
After looking in Tik tok and the internet I’ve tried to disconnect my AirPods from my phone and “Find My” on my iPhone. After a week I decided to connect my AirPods back to my phone and when I did, I got a notification that my AirPods were link to someone’s Apple ID email. I realized that it was my girlfriend’s email. She was the one who had also connected my airpods to her phone. This is the reason I got the notification of an “unknown device” tracking my location.
I had this happened just yesterday. It was honestly so unnerving because I don’t drive and haven’t left my home in awhile. I did get malicious virus or something on my phone recently and finally factory reset it. The notification said an unknown device was with me/near me, but when I checked where the item was, it was in my outdoor parking lot. It showed a grey box with a question mark inside and it couldn’t connect to the server and was unable to find what the device was. What was super unsettling was that unknown AirTags can see your location even if share your location is off. I did see more dots and one of them was at someone’s actual house but near a canal in the backyard. It was also located in a golf course with both grass areas and wooded areas. I didn’t call anyone because it was 3am and I was already so tired. What’s weird is my notification said it was first seen with me at 11:30 the night before. I’m about to watch your updated video and I do hope it’s a glitch because it was scary as f***! I factory reset my phone, AirTag info was still there, so I signed out of Apple ID, factory reset again and signed in with new ID I made prior. Then I removed ALL of my past phones and those Apple ID’s from find my phone as well as this phone. Idk if I’d still be getting notifications or not, but a big part of me doesn’t want to know. Wow so sorry to hear that. Some pos slipped one in my fiancés purse. Easily found it when we got home. Broke it. Nothing ever happened. Don’t know who put it there. But we didn’t get any notification like we were suppose to on our “iPhones” as it says it should. So u got the notification on ur phone? Did u ever find the tag? This stuff is weird. I really wanna find the dude. I know a girl didn’t put it in her purse. Of course. Dude and he’ll regret it now he knows where we live. Did u find the pod? Tag?

I just had the same thing happen and I literally figured out the culprit!! If you have any other devices like AirPods that you have used for sound sharing with your boyfriend or whatever try opening his AirPods and look at the progress on the red dot line and if it moves around then that’s the issue because that’s exactly what happened to me I had my girlfriends keys and I was flipping the lid on her AirPods case an hour away from where I live and it tracked me yesterday all the way till today because I had her keys with her AirPods on it I noticed that once we left the keys alone the tracking stopped but when I got home after calling the police and everybody under of the sun to protect my family I ended up taking her AirPods and playing with the Find My app and it was messing around with the unknown device for whatever reason but it was the culprit and I hope it helps solve your issue and gives y’all peace of mind and that nobody is following you, I called back all the officers and apologized lol

My son borrowed my airpods and when he got home it alerted him that it had been tracking him from his bus stop. I freaked out. But I figured out it was the AirPods eventually. I think I scared him. 😂
I’m literally tripping out too … flew out from Dallas last night to LAX .. I can’t find it whatsoever! I looked thru my bags all over and can’t find it !!!
Must suck to be that old (30 something) policeman not knowing what an air tag is but I'm sure he probably knows a lot about other stuff that younger people don't.
My mom told be about this pop up on her phone, it fit the time frame when I had my ipadpro apple pencil and airpods, I immediately checked under her car and her car and didn’t find anything. Could it be one of the items I own?

My siblings and I went to the mall today and when we came back home, I say maybe less than 30 minutes later, my sister showed me of this notification from her phone that said “Unknown Accessory Detected Near You” it stated that it was first seen with her 5:45pm and last seen 7:34pm which the location was in our home the Same thing like yours. We checked the car underneath and we didn’t see anything. FYI we all have Iphone 13 but only my sister got the notification. I’m seriously scared. @@erikatorresmusic_ hey erika, my parents and I believed it’s the air pods (air pods pro) I know on the video you did mentioned about your boyfriend who carried an air pods. I do remember used the bathroom and her other piece of her airpods she left it on her bed because I saw it. Then right after that’s when it gave her the notification of unknown device. Because if that was an airtag it would have a button to play sound.
I’m going to do and experiment, But I think that if leave an air piece somewhere it will probably track it. I’m thinking it will track if it thinks it’s missing. Because my sister did leave her other piece on the bed while she used the bathroom. We are gonna do an experiment and see if that solved it.

We believed it was my sister’s air pods pro that her phone detected and not mine. But yeah, I think it’s the air pods pro that’s causing it. I think that’s a glitch that Apple need to fix because it’s freaking everyone out.

So about 2 weeks ago I was traveling to orlando and i got a notification that i had an unknown accessory tracking me and after looking for it my bf and i came to the conclusion that it was just his airpods but then this week i was driving by myself and got the notification again, I cannot find it and i’m actually scared since i’m very paranoid but yea if you found a solution let me know!
What about people who doesn't use iphone?! It's so scary. People who has experienced being tracked please report to Apple so they can do something about it. This thing could be threaten to women and kids especially.
I search for a video like yours because I had same exact experience. I don't understand how it is possible to connect to my phone and track my routes. I had it over the weekend until Thursday, for six days someone knew my whereabouts, which scares me! I will read comments and hope to gain better understanding on how this was possible with out my consent.

This just happened to me and my wife. Tracked us from dinner one town away. But the iPhone won’t located it in my driveway which is the last time it tracked me .. I drove the car around the block and it didn’t follow me again so idk what the fuck is going on. It only showed up on my wife’s phone and not mine but we were together the whole time. Hopefully it’s a glitch since I did have my AirPods on me but we will see. Update us on your story and be safe
It just happened to me right now. I’m on Amtrak coming from New Orleans going to California and I stopped in San Antonio Texus at 1:30am to find doom food. I was walking with this older man from the train. We stopped at a bar I didn’t drink or put down my bag. All of a sudden the next day I received the same notification you received and I can’t find anything. I wonder if he man has a tracking device on him and because we’re on the same train it’s picking it up? I’m not sure but I’m freaking out and I can’t disable it 😩

I have the same problem actually, mine started about 5 days ago and then stopped. Then at the exact time 5 days later I got the same notification so I then checked it and as I clicked to check the server it was using it stated it was "off line" or some shit. Im thinking getting a tracker jammer for my car so it blocks the signal they are supposed using. However oddly enough the tracker they are using seems to be getting closer and closer to my residence so ill be having my car inspected thoroughly. I suggest you do the same. I to do not leave my bag unattended however I do run errands so I strongly believe someone attached it to my car but I to agree this is bullshit and apple needs to address this ASAP. Its very dangerous and scary knowing someone is watching you but you cant find them.

For $20.00 you can get a nice machete from Amazon and keep it on your car, or buy a few. Never let them take you to a second location and fight for your life if attacked. And document like hell for potential threats, someone saying I'm going to beat you up get a damn police report and save it, don't take it as just foolish talk and ignore it. Welcome to the NYC mindset. Be a bad victim, make it worth it to leave you alone. Be safe and stay prayed up.

@@ahundt Tile its the company that sued apple for the Apple AirTags. They created the "track your keys accessories". They have an Apple AirTag like accessory that exactly like an AirTag could be tracked remotely, also since this is not a Apple product is does not trigger a notification on your iOS device. Obviously the network is not as broad as Apple's one but yeah.

I wonder. Does your husband and you use the same Apple ID Account? Or do you have your own. In theory, if your husband uses a different Apple ID and sets up an AirTag, your phone will consider the AirTag foreign as it is not under your Apple ID. Therefore, it will think it is tracking you.
Now, this doesn’t explain the part regarding the AirTag having been detected on you since 10:00 if you are out since 6:00. Maybe the AirTag was left in the car while at the restaurant and this when you left the restaurant and went back to the car, the tag Was detected by your phone??? That seems weird

Hello! The part where you are showing the airtag device entered your house, the unknown airtag could have been from a family members device. I just got a notification on my phone today, and the trail started from the street in front of my house and ended where I was working at. I was only traveling with my father.

I got a notification yesterday saying AirPod detected near you but I don’t have AirPods… I go jogging at this big park near my house but I don’t have anything that can be airtagged as all I do is go jogging for 30 minutes every night. I location of the AirPod is near the park which is on the opposite side of my house. I’m very confused and idk what to do!

Once an AirTags is connected to a Phone, the police can find out who it belongs to, they get more info from Apple. Those police were just hopping for some action to use their guns. 🤦♂️
The thing is, I don’t know how to turn this off or where the heck the device is, and it could be for sex trafficking so how do you deal with this?

I got the same notification today. That’s why I’m searching these videos, but your notification says the same thing as mine. It says near you not on you or anything so I think the same thing for you as we drove by an AirTag outside on the ground in our phone picked it up because mine picked up on the freewayas I was moving on the freeway on 7080 miles an hour it would’ve picked up when I left my house 10 miles 12 miles away just like you said why didn’t notify you earlier instead of later on in the night
This happened to me today. Took my kid and two of her friends plus our dog in his stroller to the park and rcvd notification hours later an air tag was in our home and with us ever since we were at the park. Is it a neighbor's air tag? My doggo has two on his collars but they are accounted for.

If at the airport, make sure the tag did not track you all the your home or your room in the hotel.
In theory, if other passengers use AirTags on there luggage (which many people do these days), your phone will think the passenger luggages are foreign trackers and will notify you that it is following you (even though nothing nefarious is going on). Many people put this on Carry on luggages.

This just happened to me and same notification! No need to worry if it says unknown unknown accessory it was definitely the AirPods! I just figured this out today
For some reason the AirPods that haven’t been connected to your phone do this when they are by you for an extended period of time

Just got off the phone with apple support and they told me, because I’m having the same issue you are, that it was a software issue where everyone was getting these notifications. He told me to go into my settings>general>software update and turns out there was an update I had to install. He said that there was some sort of issue with the older software and Find My that they had to fix in the newest update. Hopefully this gives you and some other people a step further to go before you go ahead and call authorities. I will be driving around later and will update this comment on whether we have solved the issue by doing the update or not. With the software I have right now I also noticed that when I click into a new message and then click back it takes me to a different folder directory which is annoying because I have to go back even further to click all messages in order to see any new messages I have. Until then, there you go!

@@deniseperez4272 the software update fixed my issue. I no longer have this happening. The apple guy said there was something wrong with the old update. Go into your settings and search update. Click update and see if you can update. If you’re having this issue and your phone is up to date, set up an appointment with Apple support. You can find their number if you ask Siri
