i've been watching downlight videos for months, this one is by far the best one. top lads, good banter, to the point, and very clear/informative. perfect video.
Much appreciated! 😊💪🏼
You guys have the best explanation and examples…online hands down.
Legends ✌🏿
Absolutely brilliant and very well explained, thank you so much. I’m upgrading my 1960s kitchen cable (red and black, no earth - copper shortage) but the principle is the same. I can’t thank you enough. Cheers, Mike.
Excellent video - couldn't fault it one bit. Will be wiring up some spots in my room which currently has two wall hanging lights (off of one switch) - will be using every bit of advice right down to the copper wire for checking joists! Thank you!
Just what I’ve been looking for, well explained and demonstrated. Thanks lads! 💡👍🏼
Thank you so much, we have current existing downright I want to replace with more modern ones. This has just made my life soooo much easier!
😁👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Thinking of doing this in next few weeks and this is exactly what I needed. Superb, simple explanation. Thanks
Nice one lads.
I've got this to do this weekend.
I've also got an extractor fan running off my ceiling lights, so and extra cable going into the switched live.
Great commentary and no spamming out to make it last for hours. Thank you.
Detailed and well presented. Great job guys.
Don't usually leave comments but Thank you guys top blokes. I was gone scream when you took down the ceiling rose and found the single 3 core. Many would have carried the video on but very helpful to show the other scenario which is what no one tends to show. 👍🏼 New subscriber
Legend mate really appreciate the comment have a top day 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Brilliant , informative , fun , and easy explanation
What a cracking video on how to wire spots up.
I've never done it before, but after finding this video, i feel totally confident now on taking on the job!
I was thinking of pushing the original light plate into the ceiling and running off the wire that holds the bulb.
I can now mark the wire and wire up everything else up to the wago connectors and still not know what they are all for lol class
Absolute top lads just made it so much easier for me to fit mine, once again cheers for your free advice 🙏👍
Thanks mate 😁💪🏼💪🏼
Just what I needed to fit spot lights. Excellent vid 👍
Great video, thanks for posting. I'd love to see one where you install spotlights without access to the ceiling from above.
Guys, this was just perfect, with the right amount of laughs to go with it too, thanks so much. Great tricks of the trade.
Really useful video and very clear instruction thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.
Great to hear!
Great job... I like that you say I don't need to know what all those cables are at 15:55 that's fine... It looks as though it will do the job for me.. Thanks.. Great vid
very enlightening video, spot on. Thanks guys!
Thanks ,This comment has brightened my day

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Jackie boy hi nice to see you 😂 brilliant clear advice there Phil. Bradley I bet it makes a huge difference in the loft having no Itchy insulation to contend with.
I'd love these in my hallway tbh but it would be a challenge running the wires and threading them 😢
🤣 thanks Elaine 😁👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Brilliantly explained thanks
Very well explained lads. Always great vids
first video which shows exactly how is it made!

Great video guys
Thanks so much! 💪🏼
Another brilliant step by step guide, couldn’t be clearer! 👍
Glad you liked it! 😊💪🏼
I have 2.5mm t&e is that ok to use im assuming. Just less flexible
How would I do this in a flat roof extension ceiling?
As always you guys are brilliant 👏
Thank you so much 😀
Thank you so much 😀
Quick question hopefully, Iv just had a dormer added, I want to add 3 lights on a single run, and 6 lights on another run so all going to a 2 gang switch, I think I understand how these all wire up, but my question is, from the last spot light what do I connect up to? Do I connect straight to consumer? Or do I connect to the light switch, or do I connect to a junction box?
Thanks in advance
Great boss, how to do it 👍👍👍, friendly greetings from Indonesia 🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for visiting
What are the downlights you used for that job
The Kinky Wire was the best bit making sure nothing was in the way
Thanks
All cause you guy's deserve it ❤
Thanks Elaine 🌟🌟🌟
Great vid. What were the downlights you used? They look pretty easy to install with the separate wiring box
Lap I believe 😊
I want to add lighting to the ceiling half bathroom. Got to figure out the trim first 😕. There’s a corner definitely not 45degees. I’d like to add a photo so you can see what I’m talking about. How does one add trim to the wall that’s less than 45degrees?? 😶🌫️
Hey great video, thanks, what if I don't have access to the top foor? is there a trick to pass the cables from one hole to the following from downstairs? Assuming that I have already a wire on the ceiling to start from.
Never mind, just found your other video, you guys rock. All the best from Italy
If you were putting in the downlights and also keeping the original room light, could you just connect the downlight neutral and cpc to the ceiling rose and connect the downlight live to the switched live at the ceiling rose?
You can connect into original yes 😊
Hi guys excellent work and very detailed description,
You got a new subscriber, How much does a job like this usually cost including parts and labour.
Thanks for the sub! Not sure tbh varies a lot
💡 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Should have put a brown sleeve on the return switch blue line. Then it would have been perfect. Still a good job tho
😊 my bad 🙈 and nice one mate 💪🏼
Diesnt he go on

Really helpful. My only question is, what do you do if you don’t have access to upstairs to feed the cable?
Will need to open up the ceiling 😊
Assuming youve drilled in your holes, take a long flexible piece of material such as the uPVC draught proofing strips often used around uPVC windows and tape the cable to one end then push it through one hole in the direction of the next. If it doesnt go assume a joist, however you can then angle the strip upward slightly, passing it over the joist while another person keeps an eye out for it in the next hole. Abit fiddly but the hole should be large enough to grab the strip and cable with a hammer or crowbar/long hooked tool then pull through.
Hi, I've moved into a new flat and the bathroom has these downlights but one (out of 4) is not working. How do I fix/replace?? Thanks!
With a bathroom I would say electrician as it’s a special zone simple job but I can’t advise as the area it’s in 😞
Also, if you have tri-colour lights, make sure they're all set to the same setting (warm, cool, or day) before pushing them into your ceiling, unless you want to drive your OCD mate mad!
🤣👌🏼👌🏼
Hi fellas, if im doing this on my ground floor, how do i loop the wires round as room above is a carpetted bedroom?
Hole saw to push cables through then repair ceiling is the only other option in that case 😊
Excellent video as usual guys, thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
If you are putting spotlights in a room that's previous light wasn't a dimmable light is it a case of getting dimmable downlights and a dimmable switch or is there more too it??
Thank you
Yep and make sure the switch is suitable 😊
@@homeimprovements Thanks
How would you connect to switch and choose which spotlights turn on?
You need to split the circuit
Hi mate how would it work for a loop in at the switch ?
Would there be a junction box under the floorboards that would need connecting to the first spotlight ?
Two plate ? Where the neutrals are at the switch ? If so the cable at original light can be moved directly to first spotlight
Thanks for the reply. Yes 2 wires in the COM, 1 in the L1.
This particular room has two light switches. One on each corner of the room. That’s why it’s set up this way.
Ceiling rose has just the switch live and a neutral. - so my question is still ok to do it via the wago connector method?
Perfect so yes just take that cable from original light to first spot light unless it’s too short then just extend it using the wagos 😊
Sorry my bad. There’s one wire in the COM and 2 at the bottom. 1 way and way.
Would it still work the same?
As long as you have the single cable in the light containing l/n/earth 😊😊
Hi mate you got a link for these down lights ?
We don’t but there from screwfix 😊
are you doing a hiphop video? Movements sure are like in a hiphop video 😂
Can I legally do this in my own house for myself?
I always thought that if new wiring is added this can be only done by qualified electrician.
I am very handy with electrics but not sure about the legality.
Can you point me to a website explaining this.
Thanks for the video by the way.
I will try to find the exact regulations on what can and can’t be done 😁
Any circuit extended should be have minor works certificate issued. The only things that don’t really need a certificate would be to change a socket or light etc. many people get part p mixed up with the BS7671 which is the electrical regs.
How do you change the bulb to that light fitting
These led units bulbs can’t be changed
@The Home Improvements Channel UK thanks for replying but I suppose it would be a whole new light unit I have a rented house and can't find where I can get replacement ones
Yesssssss
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Where can I buy the wire strippers you used?
Quick wire 😊😊
My ceiling rose is different to the way he is showing it. I don't have brown wires etc I got red wires.
Red is brown in older cables and black is blue
Be aware of your switch wires also, black could well be your switch wire 👌🏻
Where is the switch cable in the first fitting
The switching is done at the switch 2 plate wiring so no switch line 😊😊
Why are you using 1.5mm when 1.0mm is adequate for this type of installation
Old habits no reason really plus matched existing feed from consumer 😊👌🏼
What is the name of green junction box ?
They are part of the downlights 😊
Dont forget studs
1.5 twin and CPC. Earth is the greater mas of the planet earth.
thankyou great info and as funny as fuck
Thanks for watching 👍🏻
And then when your house burns down or someone gets electrocuted and your insurance company won't pay out, you'd wished you used a licensed electrician that issued you with a certificate of compliance :)
