    Salaries are so low in the UK. In the Bay Area you can get a data science job for 180K GBP with only 5 years of experience.

    • @DecisionForest
      @DecisionForest  Před 3 lety

      What’s the range there? Say 1-3 years, 3-5 years, 5+ (min/median/max)

    • @kayflip2233
      @kayflip2233 Před 3 lety

      @@DecisionForest This is typical entry level total compensation for a senior data scientist at FAANG with at least 5 YOE. However, you can still get close to that level at other tech firms in the Bay Area or NYC. Top of the band is probably closer to 8-10 YOE and 300k USD total compensation.

    • @DecisionForest
      @DecisionForest  Před 3 lety +2

      @@kayflip2233 clearly salaries are higher across the board but what can potentially level the playing field would be the lower cost of healthcare and education.

      Salaries are always better for experienced people (either with a PhD or vast domain experience)
      But to be specific, , £50k-£60k is close enough to CAD90k-100k.
      Although GDP per capita of Canada is higher than UK but comparison between different salaries is irrelevant. I hope you didn't consider many of those important factors.

    • @DecisionForest
      @DecisionForest  Před 3 lety +4

      Of course, we always look at averages and medians as these are achievable by the vast majority but a well rounded professional will move towards the higher quantiles.
      And true, there are so many factors to take into consideration from country to country and even city to city that we cannot make perfect comparisons just from absolute values.
      But it’s good to know how much other countries are paying for these jobs.

Finance will take a while to catch up to both Software and Data though in the long term it will surpass both by quite a lot, though all 3 careers pay exceptionally well. Not to mention Data Science is a lot more of a nish sector and is not very well known to the general population so some places will pay huge amount and while some may not, though this does lead to the fact getting raises and promotions is much easier than the other two. And because you went to a top Uni don't be surprised to get six-figure Job offers (Assuming your in the US, but all countries will pay very well).

    Last question brother what do you think about the demand for the chief data science job role in the future? And how many years will you need in your career as a data scientist to be fit for this role in the future? Do you think phd in data or Ai will enhance your skills for this position in the future or it is only beneficial for academia and research jobs?
    Thanks alot man, you are just the best ❤️❤️

    • @DecisionForest
      @DecisionForest  Před 3 lety +1

      Great to hear you're going for Canada, think it's a very good decision and you can make the move to the US from there easily.
      Regarding Germany, I only lived there for a short amount of time while working for 1&1 but it feels like there is less innovation there, less start-ups, a more rigid way to look at things and data science needs the opposite imo. I may be wrong so feel free to set me straight :) In Germany the salaries seem to match the UK now and even go a bit higher so I'd assume you definitely can but most likely even after 5-6 years you'll probably be around 80-90k as an average.
      I see you're interested in lead positions for the future :) , I'd say it's a good title but there's not much great of a difference in salary between a good senior vs a lead and the lead comes with more responsibility, more politics and less time to do what you love (if you love programming of course). So to fit for this role you'll need some good 5-6 years but not just this, you'll need to show you can coordinate teams and deliver projects (which is hard as most data science projects are just PoCs). A PhD doesn't really help unless you go into research, you'll need to develop your soft skills (ex. communication etc) more than technical skills for lead positions.
      Hope I helped and covered all the questions :) See that you're motivated and I'm sure you'll get to where you want to be.

      It’s difficult in this period unfortunately with so many changes happening. I believe in the long term it will be better for immigration but at the moment it’s more challenging.

    Ok brother just a question, how. Many years in the industry you need to become a data science lead? I need to know more about the career path since you start as junior till you become a lead or a manager,?
    Another question which country is the best for the data scientist to be paid? Germany, uk, canada or the states?

    • @DecisionForest
      @DecisionForest  Před 3 lety +1

      In terms of absolute salary the US wins but think about it from a living perspective as well, your costs, not just your income. I can only compare Germany and UK as I lived in both and for me UK won for sure.
      Regarding lead positions, you can get real lead positions where you actually have a data science team to lead maybe after 5-6 years and a couple of successful projects, not just PoCs.

      @@DecisionForest ok cool brother why do you prefer uk not germany? Do you think that after 5 or 6 years of experience as a data scientist is it hard to get a salary over 100k in germany?
      And yeah i will be moving to canada soon for a master in data science then i will try to relocate to us!

      It may be possible although I don't know anybody in tech earning as much (working as a permanent employee) regardless of the company.
