    You could always somehow turn your favorite gauges into a necklace or a different type of jewelry or art.

      I feel the same way. And the worst in that MANY websites teach the kids to call them "gauges".

    • @samanthasnyder3564
      @samanthasnyder3564 Před 10 lety +2

      Yeah, I think they're just uneducated. But there's a difference between knowing that calling them "gauges" is incorrect and deciding to call them that anyway, and just ignorance.

    • @BabyBatThing
      @BabyBatThing Před 10 lety +2

      Uneducated? it's called a colloquial term. it's not uneducated to use something's colloquial name. i personally think it's ignorant for someone to be bothered that much by something that technically isn't even wrong.

    • @Clovislac
      @Clovislac Před 10 lety

      BabyBatThing I'm actually done with this conversation because I remember she said she herself that was now knows she was using the wrong terminologies. A gauge is used to measure something. They don't go in your ears. When will the Kids learn and not loose all their credibility over that. We can't take kids like these seriously around these parts.

    • @samanthasnyder3564
      @samanthasnyder3564 Před 10 lety

      BabyBatThing So you think I'm ridiculously bothered by it? I know people call them that, but it makes them sound uneducated. That's just my opinion. You have your own, and that's great but you don't need to call me ignorant because I have a different one than you do. What I'm trying to say over this entire thing, is that if you are stretching or planning to stretch your ears, you probably want to call everything by its proper name because if you go into a shop and say "Hey, I'm looking to buy some gauges!" you're probably not going to look too educated about stretching your ears.

    Everyone tried to tell me that mine wouldn't shrink down past 3/4" or 5/8". I was at 1-1/8". I've had them out for almost a week and they've shrunk down to 0g. I'm guessing I have a very good skin elasticity like yourself. I've only used Vitamin E oil once or twice in the past week, and I seem to be able to close them just by taking them out.

    I started stretching just after my 13th birthday, it took me just under a year to get to 1/2" (just had my 14th). I only wanted to be 6mm, now I'm 12mm. twice what I planned. yay for self control. but I'm starting to want to size up again and I am not allowing myself incase I regret it in the future. I sometimes want to have huge ears, other times I don't even want them pierced !

    • @JustLIkerapunzel
      @JustLIkerapunzel Před 9 lety

      Just remember that it is bodymodification and it is a lot likely to stay the way you make them. I already wanted big ones when I started stretching them at age 14 but only made them 4mm also cause of not being sure if I'd regret it later cause I may wanna wear big earrings on both sides again which I used to like a lot. Now 9 years later I never missed the oportunity tonwear big earrings and I guess I'd be too lazzy to change the piercings anyway regulary. So I'm now at 12mm also (actually 13 with tapes to stick with 14 for a while) and my final goal is 16. I still get comments of friends even those who wear plugs to watch out to not go too big and regret it later. But now after waiting so many years I think I can be sure that I know what I want.
      And I'd recomment to you to also stay patient to remove any kinds of doubts you may have occationally. If you really want it - you'd get to donit later as well. And it'll be exciting also when time comes and you'll have something to look gorward to ;)

    Totally amazing. Mine have been stretched to 1 inch for 15 years. Recently decided to test if I could shrink them since there is a point of "no return". I am just at an age where I want them smaller. After 3 days of leaving them out, a 1 inch tunnel wont even fit in my ear. I am down to 7/8 in 3 days! If I can get down to 1/2" I'll be happy!

    Haha I'm pretty much in the same situation you are. I was at 3/4 for about 2 years, took them out and they shrunk to a 4 within 2 months without me doing anything to them. I've never had any blow outs and I've only bled once but I let them full heal before I tried to stretch them again. I got sick of the little holes so I went back up to 7/16. I've worked as a chef the past 3 years so they were never a problem, but I just got a job as a project manager at a market research company and I'm not sure what their policy is so I might try to close them again. If I do, I'll definitely try the cholesterol! Thanks for the tips. :)

  • @erinward6131
    @erinward6131 Před 9 lety

    So many people who are not a fan of body mods are always the ones to make comments about this stuff. And usually their comments are negative. I have so many friends who say I 'gauge' my ears when in reality I was stretching them. I started stretching in 2008 and would wait a month or more between sizes. I wasn't perfect at stretching. I had a blowout and one lobe is thinner than the other. But all in all I do not regret what I did. I was 1'' at my largest and stretching up to that size was harder than I anticipated. For me and my body, stopping the stretching process at 1'' was probably a good idea. I made the decision, in the last 9 months, to downsize. I was over the appeal of the larger size jewelry. Now I am at a 9/16". I am still wanting to go smaller, to a 1/2'', but I don't do much in the way of helping my ears shrink. I clean them frequently and take out my jewelry when I go to bed. So...do what works for you. If you want to stretch until your ears are the size of a coke can just go slowly and be prepared for people to comment/stare/etc. If you want to go down in size then leave your jewelry out for as long as you can stand to. Also invest in vit e oil or jojoba oil and massage the heck out of them. Everyone's ears/skin are different and everyone should not expect the same result. What does or does not work for me, may or may not work for you. Just be smart about what you do. Also be aware that you may not be able to get certain jobs due to appearances.

      I'm about to do a video on it, but i had to take a nail file and drag it until the skin got raw (making sure everything was sanitized this file is only used for my ears, cleaned, and then put into a new plastic bag every time) and then id clean the earlobe and go to bed it usually started to heal and would get stuck together my left ear is perfectly healed I'm still working on the right.

    I have a size 14 gauge, so I'm obviously just starting out. I don't get all the complaints of her calling them gauges. The theme seems to be, she is ignorant; gauges are a measurement. The part I don't get is plug means to block, or obstruct. So if you have a hole, that can't be a plug. Plug, just seems like slang for an earring. I am ignorant, on this subject. I just never knew this was a common thing until recently, and was wondering why.

    Never ever go above 00's. If you want your ears to look normal later on in life never go above 2's.

    I wasn't "whining"
    It was politely educating,
    Some people don't know the correct terms because they were not exposed to them.
    I was trying to to be nice, in case some ass-hat came along and called her uneducated for using the word "gauges".
    People in the body mod world can be harsh sometimes.
    There was no intention of me showing I was upset in that comment,
    because I'm not.

    Gauge= the size of the jewelry
    Plug= the actual jewelry
    Gosh darn it! Ignorant people. & I never knew there was such a thing as 5/7s lol mine were at double zero and shrunk back to a normal 18g (earring) then I stretched again now I'm at 1&1/8, and going back down hopefully to 3/4 for prom cx lol

    Okay. They are not called "Gauges", they are stretched earlobes. A gauge is the size of a piercing, not the name of the jewelry or the piercing itself. Get your facts straight. If you call them "gauges", you shouldn't be stretching your ears at all.

  • @meredithrollins6429
    @meredithrollins6429 Před 11 lety

    Just for the record, she can call them gauges. Its not the most proper thing to call them but it can be justified. Its alright to say gauging your ears because you are resizing them, and a gauge is a size, so really thats alright. She has a size in her ear. A gauge size in her ear. I mean its not the best but it does work. I personally call them Plugs but you can call them whatever. "sorry not trying to blah blah blah" or "i like your tattoos but when you say gauges..." is just as "ignorant".

    You are joking right?!
    Do you have videos/pictures of that big plug into your ears. Dam you have dam flexible ears, lucky,
    What the size now, can you put a plug and pull your ear down, is there is empty space? is the ears relaxed now that's why they look small, I am wondering what the real size now.

    I hate when people get all pissy about the use of "gauges". It's just slang. Slang is always changing. Even if it's supposedly incorrect since a gauge is a size of measurement, if enough people use it and it catches on, it's slang. Get over it.
