    Nice video with practical comments. Wish this guy was my friend down the block! You can get some valuable information about using and adjusting a manual cutter like this one by reading the manual for a Foley-Belsaw 200, which was a simple high quality American made machine.

    The reason you go towards the machine first is to not destroy the cutting wheel. So yeah, it works, but it won't before too long as the teeth will be eaten up very quick. It's like putting a blade in a circular saw backwards and trying to cut with it.

    On that type of ford transponder key you can program a new key to the car yourself if you have two working keys. I realize that most people who want a another key probably only have one though.

    I'm a locksmith and I use this machine. You really don't know what you're talking about. 🤣🤣 yes each to their own opinion but this made it easier than hand filing keys. Yes it's not the best but it works. So you may wanna rethink your statement about locksmiths buddy. Also your key is crooked cuz you did not set it correctly. You did not even calibrate the machine correctly. You have to do it for every style of key so it works

  • @Seemsayin

    So, in a nutshell... key orientation is paramount. The machine will do everything it was designed to do. But the results depend solely upon the user's attention to detail.
    And that is where this machine lacks: it's ability to accurately align both the blank, and the key to be duplicated, at whatever angle/distance/depth, etc.
    In other words... you get exactly what you put in.

    • @ralfsautomotive
      @ralfsautomotive  Před rokem +1

      Keys are mostly symmetrical. You don't have to flip the master. I did it for reverence. But yes, location of the cuts is the ticket to success.

I do locksmith on the side and wouldn’t need it to make hundreds of keys, but would like the keys I do make to be quality cut. I now know NOT to buy this, I’ll just spend the $500-600 on a Foley Blesaw key cutter. Thanks.

    • @Hendogg28
      @Hendogg28 Před 10 měsíci

      They are pretty cheaply made and not the best for the money. I bought 5 before I said to heck with it and bought a used USA made machine. 1st one plugged it in and it just let out smoke, sent it back for a replacement, 2nd one the shaft was bent, 3rd one same deal shaft was bent, 4th one the machine holes were off and it wouldn’t cut straight enough with all kinds of adjustments. The 5the one the plate was bowed witch made cutting ok but I sent it back as well. First 3 came from a eBay seller, and the last 2 I bought from different sellers on amazon.. You get what you pay for.. They’re around 2-250 bucks from eBay and Amazon, The used one I got from marketplace on Facebook. Works great and came with around 200 new key blanks. Was 300 bucks but well worth it.

    I'm just curios as to why this machine couldn't be used to provide a key cutting service as a side-service to something like a gift shop... I don't know a lot about this stuff... would this machine work if you expected to only be cutting maybe a couple keys a day?

    • @ralfsautomotive
      @ralfsautomotive  Před rokem

      LOL, If I would do a couple of Keys a Day I would be investing in a better Machine. And besides, on a professional level you need a licence to buy and sell keys. I have since upgraded and am now also a licenced Locksmith so I do not use it at all.

      @SamA-jg8vy Před rokem +1

      @@ralfsautomotive Not in this country you don't need a license... a locksmith needs a license.. but to simply duplicate keys, you do not as long as you have the original. I understand that you are a "professional"... which I am not.... so you don't have to laugh at me for asking a question.... but no... in Canada you don't need a license to duplicate keys. Also, at the cost of a "professional" machine... I certainly would NOT invest in one if I was only doing a couple of keys a day... it would take way too long to pay for itself... I'm talking about offering a simple key cutting service in a gift shop... not being the world's answer to a super hero in the locksmith world.

    I know this is an old video but I only want to make keys for a classic car, meaning pre-64ish will these work ok for the old keys like that? Reasoning is I got the run around everywhere I went on getting the usual places to cut the blank I bought that looks like the original keys. One said no they can't because we don't know what metal it is and might tear up our machine, another said only if you buy ours which they didn't have anything that went back that far, blanks, and the last one the machine wouldn't cut old keys. I ended up going to an old lumber yard kinda hardware store and they wouldn't use mine but lo and behold they had 2 keys that look like they'd been there since the 60s so bought both and they cut them. Then i went to a regular locksmith and had him cut the blanks I had. I even asked if i showed ID and my title to the car! It was just ridiculous. Even the locksmith thought the same. Sorry bout the book!! But it shouldn't be this difficult and nothing after market is made with better metal than the old one I wouldn't think,. Nothing else repop is! lol

    • @ralfsautomotive
      @ralfsautomotive  Před 2 lety +1

      First off, Yes, that machine would cut any key like that Given that the fixture can hold it. Second, I would not purchase a Machine just to do one Key, a simple File can be used if need be. There is other equipment as well and most locksmith's will have all of that. Those that would tell you it would tear up the machine simply lack the education! The Cutter Wheels are capable of cutting steel just have to be carefull. Cutters are made of coded high speed steel, still used today around the world in machine shops. I since then took classes and got a locksmith licence myself. Been doing Automotive and Residential for a while now and the reason for asking ID is that in the past vehicle got stolen like that. Same as cutting a Key via code, anyone can get or find a Code so it is vitally important to know that you are not cutting keys for a thief.

      @@ralfsautomotive Thank you! Wasn't just for one but thought i could get crafty with keys for friends etc. I am notorious for getting big ideas then do it and move on to the next though so the advice not to buy one is also good! Part squirrel. As for the cutters, look at a dremel i guess, the cutter is a piece of sandpaper basically and I cut a piece of steal bracket 1/4" thick, had to be real careful as those disks fly apart. You are right on thieves, there may be some that don't want to steal a car the hard way left out there. Thank you for the reply and congrats on the new "job"!
