They coordinated with tour producers and were allowed inside the stadium hours before the gig, and they went round and put them on every single seat.
I don't think people actually realize how much 1D actually meant and how massive the fanbase was and actually still is.This project was insane.
Massive love to our boys who are still making us proud.
The fans at San Siro are legends and massive respect to the for coordinating and pulling it off so beautifully.

The fans usually plan it and spread it around Twitter and Instagram. And before the concert, some fans arrived early and put all the papers in each and every seat :)

Whenever I see this, my heart goes "That. That is my family"
That was awesome! Every fan wished they were there on that day. That was a one time thing. I get goose bumps every time I see this and the reaction from the boys was awesome too. To imagine, that thousend of people did this just for you must be incredible.

btw the san siro stadium has a capacity of 80k ppl. they sold out two dates in 15 minutes
I recently read that those concerts were the biggest shows in Italy till now. Louis' show in Milan next year is supposed to be the biggest one after that.

louis' concert on August 4, 2022 will be at the Lorenzini district (8k ppl)
and then he'll perform at the san siro hippodrome with a capacity of 20k people not at the stadium (milano festival summer 3/9/2022)
however they weren't the biggest shows in Italy, I went to Vasco Rossi concert at the Modena Park 2017 and we were like 200k people, also Ed sheeran concert in Florence 2019 was huge (65k).
Harry's concert was a bit smaller 18k (Bologna) and 12k (Milano) :)

this concert was being recorded and everyone knew that, and their team helped the fans coordinate this and promised they won't tell the boys, so yeah, ALL the boys ALWAYS say that it was THE BEST THING, us as fans have ever done for them and i like to believe that this really broke some records!

A group of fans coordinated with a company that does these types of things and the stadium let said group of fans into the venue early so they could set up the entire thing, place the pieces of plastic on each seat depending on the color/flag they were, etc. The boys knew nothing about it so they were surprised when it happened. They did it because the band was recording this specific concert for a film, so..
That is they are the freaking ONE DIRECTION ❤️

Okay, this song especially this performance makes me cry every time. And the fact that people are telling that K-pop is taking over the industry and everything, and no one realized One Direction was so so big and the best, now after 6 years, people are realizing how big they were. And us directioners, we are still going strong and people are joining our fandom which is super great. I just imagine what would happen when they reunite, and people may tell they will not, but I will always believe that they will come back. first of all, I want to thank you for doing all these videos. now I only watch your reaction videos in terms of One Direction or their solo. I like how you react to them bcz you really appreciate the music and the video. most of the other youtuber just like to keep pausing the video, and talk too much. sometimes even nothing relates to the artist or the music they reacting to.
and second of all, yes, I guess someone has already mentioned it before that you’re one of not so many people that noticed the fans project right away. because you did pay attention to the details. and that’s great 😁

Fan projects are usually organized by one twitter account that starts by just one person or possibly a friend group of fans having an idea and just running with it. Sometimes working with major update accounts for the boys as well to help spread the word. These accounts would be coordinating for a specific city or tour stop/date and what you do, or I should say what we used to anyway, is we would look up the name of the tour with the name of your city or the stadium that they were playing in and you'd be able to find a fan project usually under a #hashtag of something going on on almost every show on the road. Every city had something new and different for them that was also unique to where they were for that night of the tour.
I was privileged to be a part of two fan projects in my days of one direction concerts, both in 2015 for OTRA tour, we were so lucky to be on the floor level for both of these concerts. Seattle we all held up gold stars, and then again a few days later in Vancouver Canada we all held up printed out Canadian flags with 1D in the middle of the leaf on the flag and they said welcome back or we love you across it as well.

Some Italian fans organized that, they came about 3 days earlier and spoke with the crew so they let them in earlier and place those plastic sheets beneath the seats. The sign to hold it up was obviously right now.
What I find really amazing as well is that when they started planning this, they didn't even know that the concert in san siro was going to be recorded so it definitely was perfect timing

I love this song so much first of all. It’s my favorite 1D song. And it’s a fan project! There’s a video on the official San Siro dvd where the person who planned this fan project talked about it, I believe. I’m sure the video is somewhere on youtube. But like yeah, lots of concerts have these fan projects like these where the instructions get spread online and everyone sort of gets in on it to know what needs to be done during what song. It’s a whole thing, it’s very involved.
The person who did this project though, got permission somehow from the stadium people to place the squares at every seat so everyone would have something to hold up so that the picture looked right.
AAAAH I LOVED THIS SM, this fandom is just something else. You should definitely react to them performing Little Things at this San Siro concert, the crowd interaction is absolutely INCREDIBLE

Wondering if I'm the only one who feels really sad seeing all 5 of them perfoming on one stage?.. I wanna go back in time so badly sometimes. I've never ever had a chance to go to one of their shows and dance and sing with the crowd. At the concert, there were almost 120,000 seated fans and standing fans. The project with the flags and the lettering was made by the fans who circulated these ideas on twitter and then contact those who had to ask for the various permits, were brought in these volunteers hours before the concert to be able to fix everything. Italy and the world love one direction and they showed it to them. Sometimes it’s nice to be Italian, even if I didn’t follow them and I didn’t go, although Milan is not far from where I live, it’s still a great satisfaction to see what they are and we managed to do.
