    Is this something that I can purchase once and reuse for other children?

      Yes! We save the Teacher Manuals and other non-consumables for the younger kids. Then we just buy the consumable items (student guides, et ). MP actually has a “Consumables-only” option on the product page for each grade level or, if you’re using a mix of levels, you can call/email them and let them know which consumables you need. As long as you buy a new Curriculum Manual you can still get a discount over purchasing things separately.

    Thank you so much for the tips! I'm very interested in MP. However, I'm wondering how I'll be able to use the curriculum for my upcoming 1st and 2nd grader. They're both "advanced" readers according to standardized tests and read chapter books. Their math levels are at their grade level as is their writing. I'd like to do as much FAMILY STYLE homeschooling as possible. Do you have any insight as to whether that's possible? I figured you would have extensive experience given that you have multiple children! I also have an upcoming kindergartener, but won't be homeschooling him until next year. Thank you.

      Hi! I would let the reading be easy and place them in MP1 and MP2. This will allow them to solidify the phonics - the why - behind their reading. This is something we advanced readers tend to struggle with. During my school years, I consistently tested at high school level for reading; but I couldn’t tell you why the letter “y” makes a different sound at the end of different words until I was almost 40 years old! Letting the reading be easy will also allow them to focus on building their skills in comprehension, the basics of writing, etc.
      In this post, I share how we do family style learning with MP: seekingdelectare.com/combining-children-in-classical-homeschool/

      Thank you so much for your reply. Yes, I think keeping them at their age level is the way to go. They can always read the higher level books on their own. Thank you also for the link!

    Is there a way to remove the literature books? We have most of them already and would rather thrift them or use the library for the ones we don’t have.

      Yes! If you call/email with your order you can customize further. I do this every year now that we have so many of the non-consumables on hand.

    I'm a homeschool mom of 7 years, and am just now looking into classical education for my kiddos. I am curious to know if it would be difficult to switch my 8th and 2nd grader from Abeka to Memoria Press?

    • @seekingdelectare
      @seekingdelectare  Před 3 lety

      I haven’t really looked at Abeka (although my mom used it to teach me how to read!) but I’ve seen other families make that switch. Based on what I’ve heard from others about Abeka, your children likely have a strong foundation in skills subjects. That should make for a smooth transition placement-wise! We came from a child-led, eclectic background so I had to do more tweaking with placement. I think the most important thing would be to read about/understand the difference in approach. It’s my understanding that Abeka is a traditional school approach in the sense of “we study ______ in this grade because that is what this grade does.” Memoria takes a longer view of things, focusing on what is needed to nurture wisdom and virtue now, with an eye to what is coming in future years. I HIGHLY recommend this article from MP if you haven’t already seen it: www.memoriapress.com/articles/classical-education-is-more-than-a-method/
      Also, have you heard about MP’s summer conference? They have a virtual option this year as well as an in-person one. It’s an amazing two days of learning, encouragement, and community! www.memoriapress.com/2021-sodalitas-homeschool-conference/
