I was also confused initially that it was oscars themselves...
I haven’t seen that Tamil movie (which I am sure would be amazing story wise) ... but I think it promotes the stereotypes of a ‘poor and rural’ India, from what I read and trailer and all. Plus Sardar Udham’s cinematography and global representation was also top notch and at par or better than western movies. An independent film doesn’t showcase the same range of direction and cinematography.
