  • Rode my Harley to a bike meet that was near my place. It was all sport bikes, but the group was super cool. HOWEVER, during the ride, one of the guys slid off his bike in front of me. Be aware of your surroundings and ride safe everyone.

I have never experienced any snobbiness from other riders, and I have pulled up to bike meets on Honda's and Harley's...the vast majority of bikers really do not care what you ride and welcome any and all riders. It's only the assholes like maybe in hardcore biker gangs that care about that crap.

A couple years back, I was really impressed when an old dude on a Harley showed up at a dual-sport-oriented adventure rider rally .. the only Harley at the event. He borrowed someone's BMW, had a couple offs, bent a rim, yet finished a 220-mile ride. Now we're good friends and I've put some miles on his loaner Harley when visiting.

Perfect example of why I follow a group from behind when there are younger (or crazy) riders present. I was once riding with a group of people and one guy pulled up next to me at a stop light in a rolling stoppie with his girlfriend on the back. My first Harley was a Sportster in 2000 I won it in the CT state lottery and rode it for 800 miles, I probably wouldn't have bought a Harley but I traded it in on a 2001 1450 T-Sport and she's been treating me just fine for 24 years now with NO major problems lots of tires and battery's that Dyna's a great bike, so was the 1200 Sportster but if I was going to jump I'd do it while it was still new. I hate lane splitting you don't know what some ass hat is going to do if he's having a bad day I have a friend who busted up his leg to bad playing that game. I'm 71 years young and have been riding bike since 17 years old with only ONE accident that put me in the hospital for eight days so PLEASE STOP LANE SPLITTING I like the way you've got your bike set up. My only Harley was a kick start 1971 1000 sportster. It vibrated badly but was very dependable despite what people said about them. My other bikes have all been dirt, sport. I'm 72 riding a ninja 400 and 650 enfield now. I started riding at 14 in the 60's on a Bridgestone 90 2 stroke and have never crashed a street bike. I think the major takeaway would be to understand your skill level and ride accordingly. Everyone was a noob and probably most people did some cringy stuff along the way, so why hate.
I dont care much for riding with inexperienced riders while in a pack, including when I was one myself. Some people understand better than others, and I felt I was one of them. It gets way too hectic with noobies in a pack, so the best course of action is everyone create plenty of distance. Take it as serious as if your life depends on it, because it happens fast.
No one has anything to prove, pushing past your limits is when things go bad. Practice in a safe environment that minimizes risk when you want to push it, in order to become a better rider.

I generally don’t like group rides, because it raises the chance for giving out first aid. I like being solo and focus on my technical stuff. Each to his own. However, get a bunch of bikes out there on city streets and it can be a recipe for problems. You need to pick your areas to ride more aggressively, if you care about riding, it only makes sense to be an ambassador for riding. Here in the Monterey Bay Area, we have some pretty great roads up in the mountains.

It's a difficult topic. When I'm riding with my main group, we ride along pretty well and look after each other. Cars also see us more since we're in a group. But I understand and don't force anyone to ride in a group ride if they don't want to. Also friends from our group has had close friends that passed away riding canyons, and I had a close call with a car in one of my canyons videos, so it convinced me to stay away from those rides. Different for everyone and it's fine. Everyone rides their own ride 🤙

I went on a group ride like that on a Harley. But it wasn’t a traditional Harley lol. Pan America Special 1250. Some knew about the bike saying that the PanAm will give a sport bike a run for the money. A few chicks riding sport bikes walked up to it digging the bike and were like “Is this a Harley?” The Pan America is a high tech rocket. The 150hp Revolution Max 1250 is a serious adventure bike. 5 modes Sport, Road, Rain, Off Road, and Off Road + adjust the bike beautifully for a perfect balance of power and stopping depending on what you are doing. The Adaptive Ride height is awesome. While coming to a stop it will automatically lower. When I rode with the group I was in Sport Mode. It automatically adjusted suspension and engine mapping helping me keep up the group with ease. At the end of the day the group had a different vision for Harley. As it did me when I first twist of the throttle. It speaks metric all through the 6 gears. Awesome ride and cool content! Ride safe ✌️.

Group ride or ClusterF**k? And what caused that dude to go down? A stray thought? Much safer to ride alone than with a bunch like that, they'll get you into a jam and not even notice. It seems more like riding amongst or chasing them rather than actually riding with them. Did you get the feeling they actually lost you intentionally? And who's memorial was it, one of the crew that splattered himself on the back of a truck, slid under, or got nailed running a red? LOL... No thanks. I used to ride with the Patriot Guard Riders, who were organized, actually had a purpose, had experienced and trained riders, watched out for each other, and still had loads of fun.

@anthony_trillanes I'm picking up what you're throwing down, I'd say don't start shifting until you have the clutch in. Depending on the bike, transmissions can be fragile. Get a feel for where your clutch engages and pull in at least that far before you shift. Doing as I described above, when you roll off throttle even for a half second, it unloads the gears enough that you can upshift without pulling the clutch.
