It's actually already 41 somehow lol and California is shrinking
4:50 I would imagine it would work like Austria-Hungary, where there are essentially three capitals
Nah, more like the EU where a Union Capital is selected while each nation maintains their own capital. If it was incorporated into the US Washington would still be the capital and the states and provinces of the other two would just get representation in the legislature, but in a union scenario the only way I could see it working is through a federal style parliament similar to the federal systems of each nation, the President/PM leading the Union but the leaders as we know them being functionally governors of their respective region without much changing below that
@@Jiub_SN Like you said, depends how it would work.
Canada-US-Mexico, it would be powerful, but also HUGE! It’s HUGE! Everything’s HUGE! The number of fast food restaurants is also huge

@@nicolebarfuss3067 Great touch! We’ll make it official.
However, we may need some explaining to do later on - the European mind can’t comprehend that it’s simply the North American way to monetize any and everything possible, but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there 😎

If the US were to annex Canada outright, it would probably be best to annex it in a manner where each of the 10 provinces would be admitted as a different state, while taking on the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon as the first three organized incorporated territories of the US since the admission of Hawaii. Admitting Canada as one state would greatly distort to representation of a population spread out over an area that is larger than the rest of the US in area and nearly as diverse as the population of the rest of the US.
Dividing Canada's provinces into separate states would, however, give Canada an oversized effect in US politics, as there would be an insane number of electoral votes up there, and the former provinces' congressional delegations would be large enough to have a decisive role in control of the House and Senate.
A North American Union would not be that crazy in terms of politics... I am not sure why many assume that all of Canada would be admitted as one single state instead of each individual province becoming a state and ditto for Mexico i think it would radically change the The new USA's politics yes but it could very much work.
Waiting for drew to make an Englsih 🏴, Welsh 🏴 and Scottish 🏴 country balls (day 3)
US could someday possibly unite with Canada excluding the Quebec province but I would never ever think that they would unite with Mexico

Canada joining us would be cool but I think we have a pretty good thing going on right now.

Also USE gaining control of Mexico would massively reduce narcotics usage and smuggling as the largest reason narcotics reach the USA is through Mexico which is a large border and hard to patrol but central America is much smaller border to keep secure
They can still grow the stuff in Mexico, even if it is part of the USA 🦅.
And I doubt the Mexicans would like being under the USA's policing 🚓 system.
Yes but most drugs in the US are grown in south America and transported through central America and Mexico to the US and Mexico being annexed by the US would cause a huge drop in narcotics being sold to the US population
Asking drew to stop Recognizing France as a country (day 131)

@@Funnyboiiiiiii good idea
I hope that Mexico does not accept this union, because it would only benefit it economically (in theory), they would lose their identity, their cultural diversity (the real one, not the one that the United States sells), the enormous amount of resources that they already take would be even greater, In terms of security it would improve the situation little, in short the good things that Mexico has would disappear and all simply so that the United States would benefit.
the reason neither Canada nor Mexico should have anything to do with this bad idea
I am American but I agree this is a bad idea
No offense, but as An American a lot of us don't want this either. A lot of us already feel like we're already becoming too much like Mexico 2.0, and we certainly don't want anymore of it
@@shadowyshadow6498 I understand perfectly, don't worry, it is clear that this type of union would not benefit the people, it would only benefit politicians and companies.
Only because it is the United States 🦅, which is generally very de facto hostile to other cultures and people.
Mexico uniting other countries would put much less strain on its culture and internal independence.
You're right that the resources from Canada would be making a difference.
Surely if this union were formed, Canada and Mexico would both continue to have state borders- the Canadian provinces and territories; and Mexican states would just become new states added to the union... that would create some flag gore with all those extra stars!
Btw, the C.U.M. Federation would still be smaller than the USSR
People like to live by the sea (or a river) because it is easier and faster to move a boat on water then it is on land.
No, fish and floodplains. The Egyptians were so successful so early because the Nile is one of the most fertile floodplains on earth, no irrigation or fertilization needed, and every single other first civilization started on a flooding river. Mesopotamia, China, Indus River Valley Civilization all go their start there, and as for oceansiders, its fish. Fish is easy food and always plentiful (at least back then)

8:15 MUST RECAPTURE LEMBURG!
I mean... A significant portion of the US economy and culture is already driven by Canadians lol. Saying our contribution would be insignificant when it is already significant without being a part of a united country is kind of insane xD. Even in terms of California a disproportionate number of the most famous celebrities that bring in Californias income are Canadian and almost every movie is actually shot here using Canadian staff and talent lol. We are also already intertwined and significantly involved in the US economy, academia, business, scientific research, etc.
Despite all this our GDP is barely even smaller. If we calculate it all out our GDP is the equivalent of 22 trillion (if we had the same population s the US). We also have more population than every US state including California (though it is not by much), a much higher growth rate (cause ppl actually wana live here lol), and a higher GDP than every state but California which again has that high GDP for a good part because of Canada and Canadians.
Not to mention there is the soft power benefits and political benefits, there's a reason Americans already pretend to be Canadian when travelling :p 60% of us also have college/university degrees meaning roughly 25 million people (not rly cuz its like age 22-65 so let's say 20 maybe) have university degrees, that's compared to just 37% of Americans in the same age group or roughly 90 million. That means despite the fact we'd be like 1/9th of the total population, we'd represent like 1/5 of the population with university degrees and a significant portion of the academic and research power which again, we already are heavily involved with in the US.
That vid is completely ignorant to reality and I'm kinda tired of hearing stuff like that from people who have no idea what they are talking about and barely know about the outside world or their own country 😅
Yes the two of them are pretty much one country JJ was right
@@zach2382 If u mean Cullough I hate that guy tbh and think he's wrong about most stuff lol. But yeah we sort of are, same country is not the right word at all. It's more like an unofficial union of separate countries. To a lesser extent Australia, New Zealand and UK could also be included
0:30 and a little over 100 years ago they were even bigger at their height of size
Any union of the US with Canada or Mexico likely wouldn’t be a result of annexing either of those two big countries. It would be a diplomatic affair.

If all 3 countries would get their act together and work things out then such a union would be absolutely insane.
But The US may need to convince Canada to become a Union and allow Mexicans into the US without discrimination.
I think Unions will become the new globalization effort instead of economic ties.

If this union included free movement of labor like the EU, Mexico would empty out pretty fast. (The same thing happened when a portion of the Rio Grande was re-routed around a town that suddenly became part of the US.) Or, changing the union rules to mandate a minimum wage would drastically increase costs of farming out work to Mexico. Adding a much poorer nation to an economic union isn't usually a very good idea.
Yeah Mexico does seem to just here because technically it’s the third in a lot, statistics in North America
I'd like to assume this Union wouldn't be predatory in nature so I don't think the Mexicans would join until they were stable that way they could take advantage of their large work force and become rich off of investments from the federal government. They'd probably become richer than Canada considering how much more populous and oil rich they are.
The United States federal would NEVER allow another governing body (Aside from itself) to so much as regulate what they can and cannot do.
7:34 Obligatory comment from a frenchman: we like you guys, but don't call us "loyal". We're equal allies, and if you do bs, we'll be calling you out on that (*cough cough Iraq)
Same sadly can't be said about the UK and or solely Germany.
We are nothing more than American puppets.
More like the French (and the Brits and Italians) "tolerate" the US
As a Canadian, there’s no chance Canada would be cool with joining the US as things currently stand. That being said, as politics shift over the coming decades, I don’t think it’d be impossible within the next century or two. The main issues holding this back are gun laws, healthcare, education, political polarization, and a plethora of social issues. Although these seem frozen right now, gen z and millennials hold drastically different views from the current majority of the voting pool and the governing body in America. Even if it isn’t for another century, I’m confident America will solve its internal issues eventually. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some sort of much closer integration by 2200. That doesn’t necessarily have to mean them being the same country though. Another idea I could easily see with would like an Anglo-confederation. I imagine it’d be sorta like the EU but more focused on strategic integration and mutual development of technology and space. Basically, I’d picture this containing the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand and pretty much having combinations of what’s already existing or proposed between 5 Eyes, AUKUS, and CANZUK. The odds of that are definitely lower but I think it largely depends on how the UK proceeds with its own future. I’ve seen people say it’ll pursue integration with North America, I’ve also seen calls to rejoin the EU. If it’s the former, I could see this direction. Each member would still have their own sovereignty and autonomy, but on the world stage, they’d act as a much more unified voice and more importantly, they’d pool their resources much more efficiently. I’d be shocked if relations and integration didn’t improve to some degree over the next while though.

if the no no germans switched places with the soviet union then they would have a ton of land with half the people the soviet union had so i think they would be isolationist until they felt like they had the population to strike out
Something I don't like about it is assuming that if Germany had Russia's land, it is going to industrialize Siberia for its ressources, instead of exploiting and selling them. As if: Germany = Smart / Russia = Dumb. No: they are going to suffer the same struggle that Russia has, would be unable to industrialize those region, and then only sell those ressources. Because of G E O G R A P H Y. If Soviet Russia couldn't do it, the very government that would do anything to industrialize at all cost including the life of its people just to be toe-on-toe with the USA, I don't know how Germany could have done it.
