    The 2017 Civic Si is THE BEST new car on the US market for the price. No other cars matches its combination of power, fuel economy styling, handling, infotainment system, etc. I am not saying it is perfect but it does everything really well!! Especially the parts car enthusiasts care about: Engine, transmission, suspension, etc. are all top-notch.
    As for its power/torque specs, Honda says 205hp/192tq BUT it is underrated big time! Various companies have dyno results of at least 201whp and 215wtq!!

      They don't "invalidate" your warranty unless the manufacturer can prove that the tune directly caused the issue you're doing a warranty claim on.
      It doesn't "lower resale value" since you can flash it back to stock and not make any mention of it ever again.
      The hondata flash only affects the car in sport mode, so when you switch off sport mode it is back in its stock ecu configuration, so no loss of fuel economy outside of sport mode.

    1000% Agree on the Rev Hang topic. Honda has had that problem since the 8th Gen Si's. And it keeps getting worse every new model year. The Honda tuning company HonData has a ECU/Re-flash that eliminates it so only a matter of time if its not already available for the new Si's /Type R's but the price tag on those Re-Flash/ECU's is kinda high if your solely focused on the Rev Hang but if you plan to modify the engine more extensively then its worth every penny and makes a huge difference in vehicle dynamics and performance. And yes the clutch feel is way to light, almost feels like your just pushing air. I don't even think a different clutch set would even make the feel any heavier, I kinda like a stiff clutch pedal anyways, I daily a twin-disc so I am used to a really tough pressure plate engagement.

    • @skifree0
      @skifree0 Před 6 lety

      es the rev-hang is very bad but...at the same time, Over the months it's become less annoying...
      It's weird and I haven't tried this on other Si (or other cars yet), but Letting off throttle BEFORE clutch in (even a split second before), Makes the rev's drop faster. Granted It can only drop so fast with a dual mass flywheel (Looking forward for a change in a few years to a single mass), but the big thing is that Computer "hang" or delay before it stops dropping, disappears or is minimized.
      My guess is that since the rev hang is more of an emissions thing, having zero engine load on the engine with the clutch in, it doesn't shut the throttle valve so quickly to prevent pressure spikes in the crankase. By Going throttle off before clutch in, you trick the ECU into thinking you want a true close throttle, and there's still load on the engine while it's still connected, so it doesn't apply the rev-hang procedure
      The only real time I notice rev hang now, is WOT pulls, but I've never really been smooth in any car doing that, and If i'm driving that aggressively I would probably get a ECU tuner to make some stuff more driveable anyways.
      Again if you are serious about performance driving with this car, ECU tuners are the way to go. but as a fun commuter, that little trick really does make things a lot smoother.

      Tuner company is not bound by EPA guidelines where as a car manufacturer is. Most cars run lean from the factory which means aftermarket companies can do some tweaking of fuel mapping to increase power, Take in point the new WRX simple tune increases throttle response, becomes more fuel efficient and more power. Same thing with ford with the ecoboost mustang with the mountune tunes, that do not void the warranty. Having an unlimited R&D Budget does nothing if you are bound by the restrictions of the EPA

    Test drove the Si as well. Couldn't agree with you more on that clutch pedal! How does it compare to the Type R? I couldn't find your review. Btw, the clutch master cylinder from the Type R fits the Si. It'll probably give it a stiffer pedal feel.

    Why does a trim called "sport injected" have to have a sport button? Why wouldn't it be in "sport mode" all the time? Let the driver determine if he/she wants to drive 'economically'. This car should be in sport mode all the time. Looking at the 4door model myself against the acoord sport...in 3 pedal guise

    • @davidbursey1822
      @davidbursey1822 Před 5 lety +1

      I have a 2019 SI. The throttle is definitely quicker in sport mode. An advantage of taking it off sport mode is for daily drive on a rough road where the softer suspension setting gives a little more cushion on the ride.

    • @rahimdamji29
      @rahimdamji29 Před 5 lety

      It's great if you are tuned. You can have 2 different maps. Also the suspension stiffens with sport. If you are driving on bumpy bad roads it's good to turn off sport. It's a good thing. I drive in sport 80% of the time

      If you don't heal-toe, which is completely useless outside of the racetrack, the rev-hang isn't so bad.. Also, there's aftermarket stuff to program the computer to get rid of it, it it's a big problem. If your racing off the light, you just have to switch a fraction of a sec early to compensate for the hang.

    • @ThrottleHouse
      @ThrottleHouse Před 6 lety +2

      +The Meister no rev hang is when the revs take too long to fall between gears. Nothing to do with rev matching. You as a driver match the revs when you downshift by blipping the throttle.

    • @themeister8098
      @themeister8098 Před 6 lety +1

      lol you do not know shit E46 do your research it is a known fact that Honda has added what is called a rev matching feature so do your research before you speak! lmao call Honda they will tell you. it is a feautre they also have on the Honda Civic Type R

    • @ThrottleHouse
      @ThrottleHouse Před 6 lety +3

      +The Meister I know. I've driven the type R as well. But sadly, you are wrong. "Rev hang" is the result of emissions programming to keep the throttle body open longer for a more complete burn. This causes the revs the "hang" between UP shifts. " auto Rev matching" is totally different. That's what Honda programmed into the type R to help people who don't know how to downshift. And no, the Si or the Type R are NOT for "racing" lol.

    • @jlt7438

      I get that, it just seems that the civic left so much off of the car...manual instead of automatic dual clutch, smallish 1.5L engine, cheeper wheels, down graded interior, etc... that comparing cost, the civic price should be much less if they can put so much into an Acura and... I really haven't accepted a small turbo engine will be a good replacement for larger 2.4L normally aspirated engines.

    • @jlt7438
      @jlt7438 Před 6 lety

      I'm glad you looked at the vblog comment. I think you mean why would someone pay $28k when they can buy the same car for $24K. The civic SI is drastically different from the ILX. The ILX has a much higher cost (8 speed-dual clutch) and some would say far superior transmission. Buyers need to look hard at the value of the interior and exterior upgrades on the ILX. But the most important point is the 2.4L engine in the ILX. The SI only has a 1.5L turbo that makes the same Horsepower. Why buy a down graded Honda with a smallish 1.5L engine that needs to be tubo-charged to make the same power as a very durable VTEC 2.4L naturally aspirated engine. Remember the ILX has paddle shifters so the manual on the SI is not an advantage. Just buy the ILX and ignore the Honda SI.
