The line that always gets me is "We'll end just like we started, just you and me and no one else" because he was an only child raised by a single mom for the first 7 years of his life until she got remarried and had six more kids. He was so close to his mom but sadly at 42 she got leukemia and passed 6 months later. He has managed to stay a positive person no matter what, and make hopeful music to help other people as well which I really admire. But this song will always make me cry which is why it's hard for me to listen to as well.

His Mom died at in the prime of her life at 42. He is the oldest of 7 kids. One of his sisters also died at 18 of an overdose 3 years later 😢

I know he doesnt tell it in the song, but it does hint at it being family and a mother with the lines "youre written in my DNA" and "we'll end how we started, just you and me and no one else" like a mother carries their child with them

The lyric literally says that the person is 'written in my DNA' and in every mirror they're 'staring back at me', and about making them 'proud' and that the start and end will be the 'two of us'. But anyone who knows Louis, knows it's about his mum, and how 'we'll end just like we started, just you and me, and no one else'.
They were extremely close, even after he left home and made it big, he called her every day, hence the part about leaving her a message on the answering machine (yes, here in South Yorkshire, people still call it that or answering phone, whichever) so that he wouldn't feel alone without her. It was devastating to see him just before and after she died, and this song speaks volumes.

Yeah as other comments have said, this was written about his mom (who he was very close with since she was a single mother for the first 7 years of his life). She was only 43, which is so young. His last name now is his stepfather's since his biological father was never present, and his mom and stepfather had 6 other children. Unfortunately his younger sister passed away as well shortly after this was released of an accidental overdose. She was only 18 and I believe she had been struggling to cope with their mom's passing. The whole family is very strong and I admire the sentiment of pushing through for loved ones who have passed because it's what they would've wanted.

This song is sad and at the same time sends a message of strength, I don't know how he managed to sing this song in shows. He had two losses in a row. He is very strong! Congratulations on the sincere reaction to the video!

I love Louis’s music & would easily tell people he has no skips. But I can’t listen to this song regularly. I think the lyrics are beautiful & he does a wonderful job at evoking the emotions of his experience. So much so that it breaks my heart. I’m sorry that you had such a visceral reaction due to something in your own life. I can’t imagine what that must be like, but I do hope you’re feeling better now. Louis has a lot of fun upbeat songs as well. A few of them are guaranteed to make your day a little brighter. Ty for your reaction & Best Wishes 💙

This is such an important song for both him and others with a similar story, it comforts you in knowing that he also goes through things like this (Just Like You is a good one for that feeling too) but the son is also honest and real. It provides a motivation to continue with life, keeping them in your heart, with the line "Don't give up, you can do it day by day" like they would want you to. Louis actually had to perform on Xfactor with Steve Aoki the same week as her passing, he is so strong and brave with everything he had to go through including his sisters death so shortly after. Louis is so genuine

This song makes me cry every time I hear it and it's hard to listen to for me as well. I know it's about his mom but I kind of like that he left it vague as it really hits for anyone who's experienced a close loss, even if it wasn't a parent.

Also, I just wanted to say I am truly sorry for whatever you went through that makes this a hard time of year for you. You seem like a pretty great dude and I wish only happiness for you in your life.
