BABYMETAL's session musicians mostly play 7 string and even 8 string guitars in live concert. Most of their bass players do 5 or 6 string. Extended scales in all levels really. Lots of backtracked piano, strings, and japanese instruments as well. Theres always a lot going on in a BABYMETAL song.
For Babymetal Death BOH often (always ?) used a 7 string bass and then switches to his usual 6 string for the rest of the show.

Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey, i don't remember following your BM journey but it's always nice to see old fans and reactors coming back to hear more songs and newest stuff.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic but it's heavily blocked, luckily we got this more recent version safe to react. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style, she's officially the new member since April 2023, the member who left the group is called YuiMetal and she's no longer with them since 2018, now they're a trio once again.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.

YuiMetal officially left BABYMETAL in 2018, and in April 2nd of 2023 MOMOMETAL became the official 3rd member.
Welcome back; it's been a minute since you reacted to Babymetal. Yeah, Su has really come into her own vocally. You need to check out Monochrome, either the First Take version, or live. That song hits. And BMC, a real banger. As far as the girls. Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons, and Su and Moa toured with a dancer to fill the stage, but recently they added Momoko as a third permanent member of the group, and she has had an influence on the group. Moa's dance technique is a lot better since Momoko started dancing. This video btw is the first song they recorded as the reborn threesome.

Yui left at end of 2018 (health) then 3 backup dancers rotating into 3rd spot. One of them, Momoko became official 3rd member in Apr 2023.

Yuimetal left a few years ago. They never really explained a real reason. Then they went to 7. Then picked one to go back to 3.
I would say the in between time was 2 with different numbers of dancers.

The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') which is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!".
They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki theatre section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.
You asked about the member leaving etc ... the original 3rd member Yuimetal missed the last shows of 2017 and the 2018 tour through poor health and she left in October 2018 saying she was still not fully recovered.
Su-metal and Moametal chose to continue as a duo for the next 4 or 5 years, supported in live shows by any one of three dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns to dance in the third spot.
Only one of the Avengers was left after about March 2020 - that was Momoko. She was finally revealed as the official third member on 1st April 2023, so this was her first official video as an official member - and she even got her own special section in it.
The same person who made the official video for 'Megitsune' (I know you saw that) made this video - there are definitely many similarities between them.
There is now also an official live performance video for 'Metali' filmed at the start of November last year at the NEX_FEST events arranged in Japan by British band Bring Me The Horizon. That video was edited by the same person who edited the video for Bring Me The Horizon's song 'Kingslayer' - featuring BABYMETAL.
They finally got to play that live together at these same events (4 times) 3 years after the song was originally recorded.

Song's name is actually "Metali" (metari) = "metaru" (metal) + "matsuri" (traditional Japanese summer festival). So it's a "matsuri" influenced song and it's all about hyping the crowd and inviting them to dance and sing along. It has several connections to "Megitsune" both in the lyrics (chants, etc.) and the music video itself (you watched it almost four years ago). Like when they clear the tatami by kicking aside the tea sets. In "Megitsune" they get rid of the kimonos by pulling the "obi" (kimono sash). They are apparently telling us that they put aside the more restrictive and elitist traditions in favor of the more popular and inclusive ones.
Musically, it's very groovy and funky. I love Su's clean yet aggressive vocals here. Really cool collaboration with Tom Morello who commented this: "I am a big fan of BABYMETAL, a band that is both power rocking and constantly surprising with dizzying musical twists and turns. I've been trying to work with them for some time and when they sent me the demo of 'Metali!!' I knew I could rock that shit like crazy!".
And very happy for Momoko on her first song and music video as an official member and also for her feature on that kabuki (traditional Japanese theater) style interlude. You have all the info you need about the third member "drama" in other comments (yes, it was quite a bit of a drama... but in 2018). The whole situation was fully closed with Momoko's addition last year.

Really enjoyed your reaction, glad you've made your way back to Babymetal. Yeah, back in 2017 the beloved Yui left Babymetal for still undisclosed medical reasons. she has remained off the public radar ever since. In this video the singer (Momometal) who did the little kabuki thing mid-song is the newest official member of BM. Not replacing Yui but adding her own totally joyous energy to Babymetal. A band that has always been just right as a trio. There's a whole lot more to this story but there in a nutshell are the basics behind the question you asked. I just stumbled on to your channel and plan to go back and listen to your older BM reactions. p.s. you got my sub.

It sounds like you can speak and read Japanese. If so, is there any method you could recommend to learn Japanese if I don't have access to an in-person class or tutor? Do any of those language-learning programs work (I.E. Rosetta Stone, Duo Linguo, etc)? Otherwise, cool reaction, and thank you for your time!
Great to meet you!! The language apps are alright… but I found they weren’t authentic to the culture. In short, you won’t sound correct when speaking natively. There are great ways to learn online but the best bet is too look for a speaking partner. There are so many services online that match people up for things like this.

No drama. Yui Mizuno was absent because of health issues for most of 2018. In 2019 she officially left Babymetal and other backup choreography members (no vocals) took up the third spot (all three of these replacements were familiar with Suzuka and Moa so they fit in well). Finally on April 1 2023 Momoko Ozaki (seen in this MV) became the official third member and was given the "Royal Headset Microphone" for backup vocals with Moa.

Well, It would seem you got several items wrong. First Yuimetal's last performance was the "Big Fox Festival" in October of 2017. A year later (October 19, 2018) she left BABYMETAL citing health issues and possibly seeking a solo career. Momoko Okazaki (correct spelling). 🤘🦊🤘🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅

It's METALI and not Metal. Momo even says it twice hahaha. And the "drama" only exists for Yuiharders. She left in 2018, so BABYMETAL used rotating dancers until making Momo a permanent member (she was also a rotating dancer).
