Yeah no wonder ghosts won't show up when the SideEyeGuy is hunting ghosts. They are scared shitless. I would be too, if I saw a guy with that mask running around asking me to show myself.

Lack of imagination. They know they're faking and assume anyone watching deluded and seeking a quick adrenal thrill so it's the closest thing they can offer to the horror movie jump scare without being accused of actually including one and therefore being proven fake.
My first reaction if something really did happen would be that, but if I was faking it I would also do that because it appears to be a natural reaction to being jump scared.

The "Did you hear that?!" and "Did you see that?!" drove me bonky 9ish years ago when my best friend was still with me. Bless her she was easily spooked by everything and believed it all. I never did and only had respect for what we now call real investigators. I wish I remembered who they were. They debunked a haunting by pointing out the homeowner put a 6' stack of paint thinners and chemicals at the intake duct to the house. Spooky noises on a retired battleship was the waterline hitting the hull. A woman who saw things fly off the walls was suffering hallucinations and paranoia from a condemned radio tower about to be removed by the govt. And my personal fave - the ghost turning off the TV. Aka a bad extension cord. I just realized why my love of Beardo!

I miss the old days of Ghost Shamventures. When they always heard EVP's with their ears, negating the need for recording or playback. I still think this is how the "spirit box" came to be. They couldn't justify immediate reactions with a voice you should only be able to hear on playback. So make a machine that allows for a quick reaction.
The only communication device I reckon anyone ought to use when ghost hunting is the original Tesla Ghost Radio for which plans are available freely online on Instructables and then for it to be operated from inside of a Faraday cage so that any outside interference from radio stations or etc is excluded from whatever it may broadcast. Why try anything other than the device that scared the wits out of Tesla on the one and only occasion he was willing to try it?

Equipment is kind of needed as people can't see, feel, and hear what we do as people with abilities ..so by using "SOME" Equipment it lets the viewers see if there is any kind of engagement or energy. We agree it depends on what you use though. Now for portals and communication tools/ apps....we ourselves get tons of genuine disembodied shit, but spirits need devices sometimes in order to pick up their disembodied voices and projects them with visual words or vocalizations.
