Don't over think it just get started. I do
.75 cubic feet bags for $5.00 I have a roadside stand nothing fancy. I've sold over 600 bags in 7 months. I live on a very busy road. Prices here at the stores are much higher than your area. I thing at 5 bucks you'll do very good. Ps I buy all my wood nothing is free.
Good comparison. About 35% of my total sales are bundles. One thing to check is the stated volume on the label vs how it actually measures up. Mine come out to 1.1cubicft. most store bought bundles are 0.65-0.75. I sell mine (delivered) quantities of 4, 6, or 12 and sold mostly 6 and 12 packs. 6 at $56.99, 12 at $105.99.
I saw you're selling for next year now. What do you usually have your moisture content down to before you sell?
@@Mallard5plus1Farmhouse I shoot for 20% or better which is easy to achieve within a year on pretty much every species except red oak. In mixed hardwood loads I'll let red oak ship in the mid-20's% if everything else is good and dry. Ive started letting oak logs set (off the ground) for 9-12 months before splitting to kind of give it a head start on drying out. The bark generally falls off during splitting this way too assisting in the drying process.
@WoodsTreeFarm yeah I won't have to worry about oak... I don't have any lol. I'm just going to sell cherry bundles because I love smelling a good cherry fire 🔥 👍
You should finish off your test by putting each store bought bundle in your stove one at a time and see which one lasts the longest, and if you can tell if there is a heat difference. Take care
That's an idea 👍. Getting my new stove tomorrow
Yours is the best-looking & highest quality bundle. I'd charge $12 a bundle. 💜
Thank you Pauline! Sounds good to me 👍🔥
I would say compare prices around where you live and the wood kind pcs and I would go by that ..Here in the state of mi northern side it was for anywhere 3 dollars to 6.99 a bundle and have at least 9 to 12 pcs and wood quality form slabwood to rounds hardwood
Nice to get all those stats! I'd say do another test and get the weight of each bundle and of each piece. Also the moisture meter test of each piece would be good to know how they vary.
lol. Never could bring myself to buy the bundle firewood in a store. Maybe I like too big of a fire but it would get expensive quick. In fact I’ve never even considered it. Good luck !
I felt ashamed to buy it myself! 😄 But people do buy them so might as well bring some money in from the farm 👍
Wouldn't have the slightest idea on what advice to offer so I won't. What I will say is I see you do everything you take on with pride & doing it right. So if yours are packaged nicely & it's all Cherry, dried, cleaned & ready I'd try & market it as a nicer fire wood etc. $12.00 a bundle. Home Depot near my house is selling them over $10. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!
Yeah Lowes had some that were over $12 but they were birch logs
I have been doing bundles for over 21 years the reason for the 24% bundle wood is for shelf life so when the coustomer actually buying the bundles it normally at or around the common moisture number that for some reason that is in people heads has to be 15% don't have to be at all anything under 30% is a safe product to sale for outside use bundles are made to be burnt outside not inside.if you have any questions buddy I'll be more than happy to help you out with your upcoming adventure into bundle wood on average my company does 10 k bundles per month.hope you have a wonderful day sir😊
Wow 10K bundles per month! How are yours bundled?
@@Mallard5plus1Farmhouse I have 4 bundle machine,s from (go fast manufacturing)
Would like to see you unpack and load their bundle into your bundler.... They always short tge consumers.... either in length or height...
After looking at their's I feel like I need to cut mine at least 15". And right now I'm just filling up 50lbs feed bags for bundles. So I am going to have to find a more consistent way to bundle
@@Mallard5plus1Farmhousecool idea on repurposing feed bags. .. 3 of my 5 kids have livestock and small farms. They all have a road side bundle stand.. They all put a feed bag 3/4 full of horse, cow, chicken, donkey manure out and a 5$ price on it... Usually sell 25-30 a year...
just an idea... cash is king
Wow that's an awesome idea!
The Wegmans grocery store and Byrne Dairy convenience/gas stations near me (Wayne county NY) sell bundle wood from Latvia. It's that stuff you got from speedways
Yeah someone else commented about the Simple Simon brand and that's where it comes from. Crazy they can ship it all the way here and make a profit at their prices
@@Mallard5plus1Farmhouse and it's only .6 cu ft
Hey uncle CJ it’s gavin
What's up buddy?
depends on your area. saw bundles today at the gas station 2/$12.
that wood that you didn't know, I believe that is a type of birch
Very well could be. I recognize the smell from some decoration my grandparents had, but I didn't know what it was
I can't imagine paying for bundles to use for heating but I would buy bundles like that for BBQ smoking. Maybe you could target some sales in that category. Cherry, apple, pecan, hickory, or mixed.
An entire cord of wood is about $150 in my area
No my target customer is the campers, smokers, or people who like to use their fireplace every so often. But if someone buys bundles off of me to heat their home then that's their business
Check out where Simple Simon comes from………. I don’t know how they can import it and make a profit.
Wow I didn't know that! Must be paying their people hardly anything
What a racket if you can keep sales brisk.
weighing each bundle would give indication of volume
Yeah that's an idea too 👍👍
