    . See all the equipment we put on the airplane, and inquire about your own project! newviewtech.com/aoa/ The time has finally arrived! It's time to take 23U, with it's newly upgraded, fully capable IFR panel home to Alaska. It's been an incredible journey so far, but the best is yet to come!
    This is the first leg of an epic return journey which sees me flying on my own through actual IMC for the first time EVER in 23U, something I've been dreaming of for so long. I fly from OSHKOSH to FLYING CLOUD in Minnesota but as you'll see, it's not all plain sailing.
    Air Traffic Control need to keep me away from the class bravo airspace surrounding Minneapolis−Saint Paul International Airport and with Flying Cloud being only 15 miles away, in addition to some adverse weather, the route flown wasn't exactly "ideal".
    So let's begin the final chapter of this epic adventure!

      Just a tip, if you are making video of IFR flight, you might wan't to record that beautiful instrument panel zoomed up close, so that we can see what's happening. It kind of gets boring to look at grey clouds and some bearded guy for half an hour.

    I just completed my IPC at RYN and TUS after quite a few years of VFR only flight. One thing I noticed hand flying approaches was making corrections to altitudes and courses. Once I realize I'm off a little, it was easy to focus on just that one thing, and then end up off on the other. And always about that time, ATC calls you with a frequency change or some other request. Add the constant jabber on the radio is distracting. A good modern autopilot with altitude hold is almost a must anymore. I may be current, but I have a long way to go to be proficient.

I also have flown into Flying Cloud quite a bit mostly Anoka County now though. Always quite active and it is jammed in on top of KMSP. Great job getting in there and great job on your first IFR flight behind the new panel. The weather here is starting to get better so I am back to a decent and regular schedule on my IFR training. • @markmaccani9411
      @markmaccani9411 Před 2 lety

      @@gunnerjoe53 I believe it had mostly to do with crosswind component and being nice to the pilot not putting a lighter high winged aircraft in a stiff cross wind. Also 18 is quite a bit shorter than 10R so hard to put a heavy faster aircraft on it so they have to continue in on 10R with those. I'm betting they had a pretty stiff South wind. The tower controllers do a good job of spacing everything out that they can use crossing runways to help out.

    Question for you, do you find the looseness of the controls to be a hindrance in your flying in imc? I noticed that it looks like some pretty big control inputs were required to keep you level.
    Also, I was working the sector just north of you when you flew through and got what's called a "point out" from the chicago controller as you clipped the corner of my airspace when they transfered you to my coworker on 128.6

    What engine is installed on this plane? Sure doesn't look like the 4 cylinder O-320's I'm used to seeing in 172's from that generation. The panel looks phenomenal, btw.

    Are you going to eventually paint the cowling?

    Nice flight. Thanks for sharing! I only have one comment… I don’t like where the key was installed. Is something you only use two times during a flight and is located in the middle of knobs we use all the time…

      Actually, I agree. However, it was already build into the structure there if I remember right and would be a pain to move around. My panel is also very symmetrical which means both pilots can do all the work, which is pretty nice.

      @@angleofattack the key was moved during the panel upgrade. It is now where your old cigarette lighter plug was. Before it was higher and to the left.

    Do you still have the generator in the O-300 or did you upgrade it to an alternator for all the new avionics?

      @angleofattack  Před 2 lety +1

      No. It's an alternator. It has an alternator when I bought it.

    Really curious, why no autopilot? Even something simple like a Levil just to ease workload? $?

      The autopilot isn't approved for this plane yet, and I won't do anything other than Garmin. Soon!

    Is there a vacuum system deletion with the 275 instruments?
