The Byzantine empire was around a hundred years before the medieval age and existed a few years after it, that’s over a thousand years! What do you mean they existed for a “little bit” ?!? BRUH. They also are the true successor to the Roman Empire/technically were the Roman Empire.
Yep, and he should have used the ca. 560 CE borders under Justinian I, which included the whole Italian peninsula, north Africa, Egypt, the Levant, southern Spain, etc. (basically everything other than Gaul)
It started as Rome itself around the 8th century BCE, and didn't really end.
Rome didn't collapse instantly and there isn't a single date to represent it. (The byzantines are the roman empire, even if only half).
Rome didn't fall in 476, it's byzantine propaganda to justify an invasion of "barbarian conquered" Italy, which was still de facto the western Roman empire.
Then, some western Roman provinces and areas made their own successor state kingdoms, still Roman. Even though rule passed to francs, visigoths and whatever, the culture was still Roman.
Christianity etc....
Latin was still spoken and was a language of science and trade.
The byzantines preserved roman knowledge so humanity didn't really go back a lot, even if Europe did.
Then, the byzantines didn't really fall in 1453.
Some areas were free from turks for decades, the last but not least being Crimea, and a notable one Trebizond.
Even their fall wasn't the roman end, since the byzantines, who called themselves Romans, (that was how they always referred to themselves) are still there.
Greece.
It got independence 350 years after the fall of Constantinople, and during that time they suffered and resisted Turkish rule.
Then Turkish ottoman battles of WW1....
Point is, the Greeks are roman.
They still refer to themselves as romans even today.
And still dream of restoring Constantinople.

Not 1000. The empire lasted 395 to 1453 or 1058 years
But still 1000 years is a lot. 1/6 or 1/10 of the earth history. Earth was created around 4000 or 8000 bc
