  • I stopped by St Pete Fishing Outfitters in search of a new snapper fishing setup. With the help of the friendly staff, I was able to narrow down my choices to a reel from Florida Fishing Products and and rod from Bull Bay Tackle. Then I shopped some essential snapper tackle such as leader, jigs, and hooks.

I personally would put a better reel on that rod. Something with seals or even better a completely sealed reel.
Penn Spinfisher vi, penn slammer 4, or better a Van Staal, Visser, zeebass.
Just my opinion with that awesome rod!
American made matched with American made.

Could of mentioned some back bone in the rod with a soft tip being very important.

@@HeadFirstFishing what I need, want or can afford are very different things my friend...lol I'm in Ontario Canada, never been to Florida or anywhere south of New York. One day I'll find a way down and fishing will be the main reason. Keep doing you and I look forward to watching in the future, I'll live vicariously through your amazing journeys out on the water and obtaining any knowledge I can. Take care captain.

I usually pick a rod and reel set up that will give me a fighting chance with whatever hits the lure or bait , I lean on the heavier side because you never know when a fishy monster is going to grab it ! With the line I stay in the 30lb area and a 20-25lb leader , if I’m in the back waters I use fluorocarbon if I’m in deeper water or on the skyway pier I put a foot of thin multi strand wire so the toothy critters don’t bite me off , but lately I’ve become a fly fishing addict again and our buddy Cliff Nigh at St Pete Outfitters can set you up with equipment and knowledge on how to get ya started , informative video bro, Tight lines! 👍🏼

Awesome information. Story for you, was fishing in Crystal River for reds couple months back. Bait of choice is shrimp on a poppin cork, nothing seemed to matter with the hook selection!! J hook circle hook and the most common a chartreuse jig head.. Brought the same idea down to our neck of the woods and I caught 4 reds in a hours time using a Circle hook and my girl couldn't get a bite using jig head under a cork!! She wasn't happy when I told her to switch to a hook!! Any idea why it works north but not south?
