It does seem like more people are becoming interested in learning Thai now than before, although maybe that's just because I'm paying attention more now.
The point you make about the low birth rate and estimated population decline is an interesting one. The prevailing wisdom that I've heard on that is that its generally bad for the economy but I guess it should give employees and small businesses much more power as the demand for services by those that are retired grows.

I would love to see the language become more popular. Thailand has really become popular for a travel destination but I still don’t see many people interested in the language. It’s very different and unique. It also gives you better access to a specific culture more than just using English there.
The businesses there will hurt if they only focus on the primary market of Thailand. But it could be an opportunity for outsiders to have the ability to really get positions in key decisions making roles to change the company… or bring your own business for the market. Whenever there is a drastic change anywhere, there is an opportunity. The worst thing would be the companies to keep their current models and drive themselves into bankruptcy….
