Title:Hendrick Pule Ekstein VS Black Leopards (Home)Telkom Knockout 720pi HD (21/10/2018)MagnoliaArtsComps
Eksteinâs trickery and ability to play combination passes in the number ten role created a couple chances for Chiefs. He also managed to bag a rare goal in the second half to restore parity.
Kaizer Chiefs 1(4)-1(2) Black Leopards
Surprise starter Virgil Vries pulled off two saves in the penalty shootout to hand Kaizer Chiefs the win against what was a gallant Black Leopards side at FNB Stadium.
The Glamour Boys had to claw their way back into the encounter after a screamer of a goal from Phathutshedzo Nange put the visitors ahead going into the break.
They eventually found the equaliser through Hendrick Ekstein, who pounced on a loose ball inside the box to level matters.
Despite both sideâs efforts, neither could the back of the net as the contest went into extra time, then the shootout with the hosts holding their nerves to progress through to the next round of the Telkom Knockout.
Leopards went ahead through Phathutshedzo Nange's fine strike but Hendrick Ekstein pulled Chiefs level in the second half.
Neither side could find a winning in regulation and extra-time, forcing the encounter into a shoot-out, where Chiefs prevailed.
âOur inability to convert chances was our undoing today because we could have been 3-0 or 4-0 up [at halftime]. And you know when you play against experienced teams like Chiefs at their home group you must expect a backlash in the second half. Thatâs what they did,â Masutha told SuperSport after the match.
âThe only thing that Iâm proud about my players is that they never allowed the occasion to intimidate them. It was a good game for both teams fortunately Chiefs managed to convert their chances and we failed.
âWe wanted to use the spaces that their full-backs were leaving [behind]. That was our plan to use the speed unfortunately we asked too much of the players as some of them were tired and could not do the double marking we required them to do."

READ: Chiefs need penalties to sink Leopards
The Amakhosi beat Black Leopards 4-2 on penalties after the two sides were locked 1-1 following extra time in their last 16 clash.
âFirst half my boys did not play well. But at halftime we fixed the mistakes, we talked about the problem. In the second half I saw another Kaizer Chiefs. In the second half the performance was outstanding, also in extra time,â Solinas told SuperSport TV.
âThe distance was not right, we did not press the ball. The distance was not right in between the departments [lines]. Defensively we had no coordination of movement with the ball. So always we opened the space, this was the main problem. We needed to move the ball quickly from one side to another.â
Solinas went on to say that he was stressed about missing six key players, claiming even the world's best sides would suffer.
âI knew today was going to be difficult for us. We played without six key players. Six key players. We donât have [Leonardo] Castro, [Khama] Billiat, Lebogang Manyama, [Dumisani] Zuma, [Siyabonga] Ngezana [and Daniel Cardoso].
âAlso Real Madrid or Barcelona would struggle without six key players. It was a stressful game for us. I lost two years of my life today. Itâs an emotional game when you go into penalty shoot-outs you know itâs a lottery,," he concluded.
