Consider the source, in my opinion. My grandmother used to say, " If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all". In my opinion, Elvis' appeal went beyond his looks. Yes, the package was nice, but his kindness, generosity, respect for people, and his love for God made him a phenomenal human being.

I have met so many people in my life who just think elvis was a fat guy, in tight jumpsuits, with a stupidly deep voice and that he liked to say uh huh huh plus of course "thank you very much." When I was a teenager a friend of mine refused to listen to elvis Bridge over troubled water take one. I insisted he must listen as its so good. He dismissed it and said he didn't wanna hear it. Didn't wanna hear the (insert fake mocking elvisy noises and moves).
A few weeks later I told him my cousin and I had covered it and sent him the file (elvis BOTW take one!). He went nuts over it saying my cousin has an amazing voice and oh my god does he have any more recordings cos this is so good. I then revealed I had tricked him 😅. Loved the look on his face.

Carson and Jones was talking about how Elvis was Tom Jones idol and Carson, in a dismissive voice asked Jones, "What is so great about Elvis?" Tom Jones responded, his voice man! Elvis's voice!! But one other opportunity earlier was passed by also.
Since Elvis' special in 1968 was an NBC show, and his career was in need of a boost, it would have made good sense to do at least a brief appearance with Carson to promote it. Carson was still based in New York at the time, and not yet in Burbank, CA, which is where Elvis taped his program, but it still could have been arranged.

Billy may have been thinking of the National Enquirer story that was their front page lead "Elvis Fat and Forty"
This has been researched........ But did Carson really utter to millions of viewers that Presley was 'fat and forty?' The comedian's Tonight Show clip licensing database, available only to entertainment and broadcast media, holds the indisputable key. It contains nearly all of his Tonight Show episodes [i.e. monologues] post-1972. In viewing the video and reading the transcript, the late night host said the following on the night of Jan. 8, 1975:
'Guess who celebrated their 40th birthday today?' Elvis Presley. He is now wearing orthopedic blue suede shoes [audience laughter]. He looks very young, though, but I hear he got an orthopedic, I mean he got a surgical hip lift…he is only allowed to swivel now in the presence of a registered nurse. That's what the nurse told me'.
Nowhere did Carson mention Presley being 'fat and forty'. The only aspect where Presley might have taken offense revolves around the corny 'orthopedic blue suede shoes' bit. So why did Presley perceive Carson's joke in such a visceral reaction? Perhaps he felt he had been betrayed, since Carson had earlier visited Presley several times backstage in Vegas and complimented his spell-binding performance. We will never know the full story....but the tape for that nights show does not lie.

Carson didsatire, of all celebrities, he often made jokes about Pres. Carter. & Reagan
Don't think he was fan of Elvis, as he was 30 yrs old in 56, his music was ole fogey, Sinatra, Como, Crosby..

The woman who said that has zero emotional intelligence. I never understood that, and there are still so many people like that. Especially the fat shaming, I see that mainly as an American thing. The arrogance that you think you have the right to judge someone on their appearance is sheer arrogance. It really is beyond me. But I'm not above giving them a reply.
It is even more hurtful because Elvis never criticized anyone (at least not in public).

What's wrong with people who think it's okay to say something about another person's weight, body, anything. They don't know what anyone else is going through or how they handle ignorant comments.
I remember that show that Carson did that. I didn't think it was funny either. Like Carson had no baggage after marrying 15 thousand times.

People need to realize that Elvis was not just an unforgettable sexy man a great singer, but we have to realize that though he was 40,ate a lot and took extra meds , he also had glaucoma, diabetes and an inherent faulty gene that could weaken his lungs, his anal cavity causing severe constipation or heart problems. His genetic pool would be something you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. Please mention the good that Elvis has done. He was only human. He's been dead over 40 years and generations of people still love and miss him. ❤❤❤❤RIP Elvis. I miss you.

@@jettsteari3062 I have nothing against Johnny Carson. The only emphasis I'm making is that Elvis had a very bad gene pool which everyone has said something dif about. A person with half a gene pool like Elvis would be in a lot more pain than what he showed and would want meds or painkillers or whatever to stop the pain. Many of our performers even got addicted to meds that stopped their pain. I can only say it's time to stop blaming the victim and see reality I say this with my personal genetic flaw. Let's focus on the good they did and let them RIP. Thanks for the info you sent. I had no idea. God bless you.

He felt it slipping away from him. and he spiraled down and out of control and all his close relations couldn't tell him what to do, only his mamna and she was gone to heaven. Thanks for this story. I think many people struggle with getting older and the middle aged spread. It comes to us all, mostly, unless you're very lucky or work incredibly hard, constantly to not experience this.
It's not easy, to be revered for being so beautiful and young for so long, to find you are mortal can be very hard. For ordinary people it's hard, but imagine experiencing that as Elvis, I imagine it was probably more difficult for him.
The thing is Elvis was suffering with more than being overwileight, he was also suffering with swelling, which appeared as being overweight.

There was an episode of Carson from around that time period where he says something along the lines that Elvis should sing fat songs. The video clip exists as I’ve seen it before. Yes Elvis psyche was delicate and sensitive by that time concerning his weight but Carson did use the word fat in making the joke towards Elvis. As I said before Carson in my opinion was the best late show host there will ever be. He was a comedian and sometimes they can be pretty harsh. Just look at Don Rickles, king of insult comedy.
