    The alcohol industry is huge and it has never ending negative effects on so many people in our communities. It creates a number of addiction cases and dependencey issues. It fuels domestic abuse, violence, crime, mental health issues and the list goes on. It's incredible to me how many liquor stores I've seen go up over the years and they are more prominent in different areas of Auckland. To an extent you could argue that some of these issues we see are man made. I understand that everyone has choices. But when you make alcohol so accessible to people, especially as we know many people use alcohol as self medication for other issues, the impacts are endless. It just stuns me that these industries keep making millions and millions off damaged people. It's incredibly sad. Offending behaviors are complex and there's so many factors that go into it.

    • @kaitiaki3
      @kaitiaki3 Před 5 lety +4

      kia ora Ivana, I think your comment is very insightful and also very truthful. While people choose to drink alcohol, it is easy to forget that our lives are influenced by many environmental and social factors, such as the accessibility of these substances. It also stuns me how the industry has continued to be so successful. I think part of this is due to their significant effort to sell alcohol to people, while not mentioning the fact that alcohol is a known carcinogenic, as well as a contributing factor to terrible things like domestic abuse and mental health issues in Aotearoa.

    • @msteefins7379
      @msteefins7379 Před 5 lety

      Government make too much much from taxing alcohol. The government don't care about domestic violence, alcoholism etc they just want there money. Cannabis causes no problems no deaths and is illegal. Go figure.

      @hammerbro1947 Před 4 lety

      Kia Ora, there are times when people go to bars just to have fun while limiting their drinks and having someone sober drive them home. However, life can get in the way, and people just abuse alcohol. Alcohol may be the main reason they got drunk, but what is the root of the problem that got them drinking hard in the first place? For example, did they break up or something happened during the day? It's something to consider as well.

      I actually have thought about making a dedicated work one and doing regular stories, but I could also just use the existing Auckland Police one - What do you think? - Constable Hurn.

    Please include a trigger warning or message before discussing the woman who was in mental distress as it came as a surprise that the scenario was described further and can generate graphic memories for people, like me, who have had extremely negative personal experiences with suicide.

      Hi Sarah, I am sorry if the content came as a shock. You're right that moments in these episodes can be distressing. Policing is at times a very confronting job, I've always tried to balance that reality with the need to remain family friendly and the intention of this project: To get every day people as close to riding along with us as possible. In the spirit of that I've never paused before discussing anything and I try to deliver most of my pieces to camera un-scripted while avoiding the more graphic images I inadvertently collect. I do try and hint to the content in the description and have included contact details for support there if people feel like talking after watching. I hope you can see where I'm coming from. - Constable Hurn.
