good stuff. My other class from my Trading company suggests 1x ATR for the Stop below and 2 or 3x ATR for your target limit to take profits.

Hey sir ,I have a query regarding setting SL ,using ATR indicator I have been using it for a couple of days but it doesn't respect percentage risk and sometimes I find my self using risk to reward of 1:1 because of wider SL,is there any way to tweak it so that it may correlate with percentage risk, thanks
You need a BIGGER Reward to RISK ratio as if its only 1:1 then you need to be right MORE times just to break even. Try and target at a min a 2:1 or 3:1 Reward to Risk ratio so you get more winning trades and less losing trades. Also factor in position sizing

Not sure if your still here Rayner... you may have retired :) but this is my question..Do you use the ATR of the timeframe you enter the trade on because i try to use candles on both H1 and H4 timeframes for similar set ups?

ATR is a new indicator for me that I learned about from this channel. I looked at ATR for the Stock SLV which I think is a rather volitle. I was surprised that the ATR was rather small. I tried different periods like 20, 14, 8. Still seemed small when the volitiliy looked high by eyeball. I know that ATR is larger for higher priced. Still surprised. I was only looking at day to day not intraday, I'm not a day trader. Where is my misunderstanding?

I would say 4h, 8h, D and W, from my experience and data from rayner, whatever you like (I would look if either the 20 or the 50 MA is more respected)

hey man i have a doubt i was using the same concept of your stop loss on stocks, the ATR value is around 7 ,8 should i still subtract the lowest price from this atr ?
should subtract it from the swing low, it you are looking for a long trade.

Just as a question. If I'm in a downtrend and I've figured out my Stop Loss what would be the logic of pulling out? Wouldn't it be more ideal to ride the wave and see if I can later sell for greater earnings or is the Stop Loss there as a safety measure?

the STOP if you are SHORT a downward market is ABOVE your entry to protect you if the market goes opposite and goes UP instead of what you thought it would do (go down). For a trend up trader then the stop is BELOW your entry so it protects you from a FALLING market if you are LONG
