  • When fiberglass boats get damaged, the repair job can seem intimidating. There is probably not a more abused sailboat than the Optimist Dinghy, used for youth instruction and training all around the world. So when this little dinghy got dinged up - it was whisked off the race course and into the TotalBoat Workshop for a quick repair.
Using fiberglass and epoxy resin does not require advanced boat building and repair skills or knowledge - you can get the job done just by watching a good How-to video on fiberglass repair. And that is just what this video is meant to do - guide a novice through the various steps of a simple repair job with fiberglass.

@2:01 why the peel ply didn't stick to the under layer resin and so formed part of the gunwale after drying??

It does stick and it is an effort to remove it from the epxy upon curing. But this removal of the peel ply takes the blush with it and leaves a nice surface for sanding and filling.
