Making a Manufactured Beam (Header)

This is a quick reference. This is not used everywhere and I would contact your local construction ordinances to be sure this will work. I have also over sized this because it fit... and well, why not? I used 2x12 but probably could have used 2x8 for this small of a span. Again, check your local code for more information. The span of the beam is 72 inches (6 feet)

Couple things to keep in mind. Make sure both crowns are up and stager your screws to make triangles about 1/3 of the way down and up the width of the board. Also if you let that board sit up in the same orientation it will be when installed for about an hour before you install it, you can avoid the glue drips that will inevitably happen. Those always suck when you catch one in your hair.
