lol Poseidon 3D modeling was too expensive in the 90s. They had to kill him off quickly.
No wonder he only appeared 3 times throughout the series not including the opening credits. They could have easily given him a human form like they did with Hera.

I am irate depiction of Greek mythology. «Ήφαιστος» that is his Hellenic/greek name in Greek and “Αφροδίτη” didn’t fall in love. He basically bought her by forcing Zeus hand
The gods basically fulfilled the prophecy themselves. Once they found out xena had the power to kill gods they should have left her alone. She wasn't coming after them plus xena was still mortal. If they just stayed away until xena died all of this could have been avoided.

I agree and for a time I thought it might’ve been one of the weakest writing points of the story that not even one God realized that. My final thoughts fall to that scene where Athena was on the throne. The way she looked at Xena, I Think Athena knew she could’ve stopped Twilight right in its tracks if she had just left well enough alone. I think what this was really about is that she wanted the gods to be absolutely supreme without exception. And she was willing to have her entire family die on the battlefield to make that happen. In short she was a goddess Who fell prey to mortal arrogance.
@@antmagor I absolutely agree with that. She didn’t want to be bested my a mortal but the gods fled when Dahak came to grease. I know they were weakened but they should have used that same strategy. Especially because dens was mortal
What makes all of this even more ironic is that Athena is supposed to be the.."Goddess of Wisdom" and yet, it didn't serve her well here. She acted in haste and ended up being the driving force behind getting most of the gods killed off. In fact, Ares was the only god with the wisdom to realize that Eve herself posed no threat to them. He had no desire to go through with this war on Xena and her child. Quite the paradox for the "God of War", isn't it?
@@antmagor Ares realized that and he told that to Athena. But she would to be the new "Queen of gods" so she probably did not consider that s to be true. As the one who kill the girl who killed Zeus, she became the new Queen of Olympus.

I was more upset about Hephaestus
I understand she had the power to kill gods but in my opinion it was way to easy. The gods still had their powers and xena didn't get any boost in power or speed. It didn't make since to me.
@@antoineberry2977 I think at this point the gods was MUCH weaker since Zeus died. Each further god dying sapped their power. Before this, all these fist fights were just fun on the gods part as they could smite from Olympus if they wanted. So they are essential mortal here. Ares lost his powers just healing a person. Something that should have been no consequence in prior seasons.
Honestly, I loved this storyline! It was epic and intense, not to mention what the whole season building up too. Christianity was taking over and pagan gods of old were being replaced by greater, if not all powerful new order. I mean Xena’s god killing power derived from the big guy in heaven, so no wonder she could kill the Greek Gods so easily.

One small problem I had with the Twilight of the Gods is that almost 2/3 of the gods that appeared in the Herc/Xena-verse never even showed up to defend their godhood or even at least had a say in the matter in the end. Apollo no-showing after getting involved early on in the arc was especially disappointing.
Yeah, I know that it would've been _a lot_ of characters lining up to be killed or stand down, but maybe Twilight of the Gods could've been a season-long ordeal to help remedy that.
It's always so cheap having a god be more powerful than other gods. The only reason I even consider this legit was that the abrahmic god just gave her the same power other gods have, since gods can kill gods. It's nothing more or less special than xena's own awesomeness at work.
Xena must of been the inspiration for the God of War games.

I wish I could go back and relive the moment where she says “so you can kill gods” omg epic. The warrior princess is not to be messed with.

Ironically there are episodes of Xenia and Hercules that suggest the Gods are alive in the Modern Era this suggests there are two universes - 1) Actual Universe where the Gods left Xena alone and lived and 2) A universe constructed based on the Xena Scrolls - That is a Show in a Show where the Gods die

First of all Hades (one of the big three. Zeus, Hades and Posidon could kill each other) threw that fireball and Xena deflected it! Because of her deflaction it got that extra kick!
Remember this when it first aired as a kid. Xena whipped that sword out and was ready!! The power to kill gods was so unexpected..
A few years before Kratos, Xena was already killing and beating up the selfish and arrogant Greek gods. And he had a special anger toward Ares too. 🤣

@Luxury Top 10 You guessed my thoughts. I think so too. Athena is such a bright and interesting character that she is worthy of her show. Athena was perfect in the role of the antagonist, but how beautiful she would have been in the role of the main character. Xena and Hercules would rest on the sidelines.

These were two of the best shows ever made still watch re runs
So big fan of the franchise, saw young Hercules first then Xena and some of Hercules. For me it felt like character assassination having Hephaestus hunting Eve like that. And to a certain extent Hades as well.
I love how the series developed over time, xena the “protector” of one true god and everyone who believes in him against all these pagan false gods, they didnt want to admit their time was over, its amazing, i always liked aphrodite, she was xenas and gabrielles friend, i love this show, i watched the reruns so many times, these later seasons are my favourite, also when they spent time in north Europe, the time with amazons, and my ultimate favourite episode- when she fights Alti when they turn into skeletons haha, that was so good, keeps you on the edge the whole time

I feel like they should've include Apollo in this episode as well. He was evil on Hercules/Young Hercules.
In later episodes it is stated that Ares and Aphrodite were the only Olympian gods left alive which means that Xena might have killed all the others, including Apollo, offscreen.

@@Bardim18 it was acknowledged in the same episode I think you’re referring to that there were other Olympians who had survived, but as a result of Athena‘s death had turned mortal. I remember because that’s what had happened to Aphrodite, she had to eat one of Oden‘s golden apples in order to return to Mount Olympus.
Personally I hated that they killed Hephaestus, the fact that he was even hunting Eve felt like character assassination. To a lesser extent so to did Artemis and Hades.

How come the Gods still didnt have the advantage? They can disappear and reappear....they can go back in time and change things, they can literally turn Xena into another creature or inanimate object....they can even make her disappear in a puff of fire/smoke. They can do nearly anything, but they decide the best course of action is to fight her. They can even conjure creatures that she doesnt have the means to kill. They could also change her behavior/mental state, and take away her fighting abilities.
Because if the Gods chose that pathway then there wouldn't be a storyline.
Eh, I have a feeling that the more esoteric stuff probably wouldn't have had an effect on Xena. The attacks the gods were using (weapons and blasts) were likely their most powerful.
Besides, if Xena could kill gods so easily, she probably wouldn't sweat any creatures they could conjure or send.
@@Deined Xena couldnt do anything against an Elephant or Rhino or Hippo. And the Gods literally can stop time, and do something to Xena then. Xena shouldnt be able to best them in a fight, anyways. But still...those energy blasts are powerful, but not their best attacks, as they can be dodged. If they stopped time....Xena couldnt do anything. They could also reverse time and bring back Gods which were killed. Or they could get them back from the underworld and turn them into Gods again.
@@brentlionakaboldchamp Honestly, Xena wouldn't have been much of a god killer if she could be stopped as easily as freezing her in time or sending animals after her, would she? Think about it; Eli and God likely accounted for this and granted Xena some level of resistance or even immunity to the gods' parlor tricks.
Besides, as mentioned, the gods' blasts have often proven to be their most powerful attacks. After all, Hera knocked out Ares with a single blast, something Hercules took whole fights to do in H2H. Also, as this vid shows, Poseidon was killed when Xena deflected blasts from both Hades and Deimos at him.
Also, it's very likely that the killed gods were out of the living gods' reach for resurrection. The dead gods, instead of going to Hades' underworld, were probably sent to Heaven or (more likely) Hell for defying God's will, places the ancient world has proven in-show to not even be aware of until Callisto aligned with Dahak.
@@Deined No mortal has immunity to those 'tricks'. Gods are the most powerful beings in the series, after all. There isnt much they cant do.
I know they can get knocked out, but i never understood why, because when it happens to normal Humans, its because of a minor concussion. However, Gods cant get concussions, though. Also...the show often ignores physics. Hercules should be seriously injured by an energy blast or lightning bolt, because those things severely burn the skin, and can incinerate you, really, in some cases. Elephants have gotten killed by lightning, and Hercules is weaker than an Elephant. It is often hinted in the show he is 10x stronger than a normal Human. The same is sometimes hinted for Xena, but i would imagine Xena is 10x stronger than a female of her size and fitness. And Hercules 10x that of a male of his size and fitness.
There isnt much in the way of evidence for the one God in this series, though some suspected there might be. I dont believe in one in real life, either, lol.

Besides, Zeus would likely have been just as helpless as the rest of his pantheon. Xena would've just deflected the lightning Zeus knocked Hercules around with in their last fight right back at Zeus for the kill.

I seriously doubt Zeus was more powerful than the combined might of the gods Xena had to face. After all, IIRC, the gods attempted to overthrow him in-show at least once, and Zeus was seriously concerned with the matter.

That's debatable at best. Before Zeus confronted Herc, he lifted his decree of not allowing the other gods to kill Herc, so he was pretty much all about self-preservation for the gods at that point.

I was shocked and so mad when Poseidon, who is considered as : the God of Greek's Gods! and as powerful and great as Zeus, be killed that easily 😵
I never liked how the Gods simply were defeated easily...it never wouldn't have happened in real Greek mythology.
Zeus was also no Challenge. Hercules took care of him, with a bone.

It never made sense for Hades to be apart of this fight, especially with the history between him and Xena. He had an Underworld to look after, I can't see him caring about all of this. He shouldve been replaced by Apollo. Even Hephestus seemed like he would've just kept to himself.

So true. The prophesy of the twilight was simply that man would turn away from the lesser gods and they would no longer rule. The gods thought it meant their death. Their desire to cling to power was their end. The twilight could have happened without any of them having to die.

You know if the Gods actually really used their brains they would have realized that by attacking Eve they brought about their own end and had they left her alive they would have lived, but instead of using their heads they let their own fear of death led them to their own deaths irony is abound

@Brandon C. Yeah, in Greek mythology Hephaestus was basically bullied by the other gods because he was short, ugly and handicapped. In one story Zeus grabbed Hephaestus from the leg and tossed him from Olympus because he took Hera's side in a fight Zeus had with her. Aphrodite and Ares were also mocking Hephaestus with their affair too. Poor guy.
Hephaestus was a cool character on Hercules and they totally gave him a disservice here. He never would have gone along with the Twilight and was completely out of character for him to be so involved.
I know. I actually kind of feel the same way about Hades too. Though I could be wrong.
