The successor to the KGB, the FSB is Russia's latest internal security installment, reorganised to continue protecting its civilians and to stomp out any perceived dissent.
Made up mainly of the Border Guard Service, it specialises in military and foreign counterintelligence, counterterrorism, economic state security, and internet monitoring. But how do they operate, why do members call themselves by their early predecessor name the 'chekists', and why are they still significant today?

What kind of nonsense are you talking about, in Beslan the assault began after the explosion of terrorist bombs and the fire that started. The special forces did not shoot at civilians, but the militants did it, which is why it was necessary to suppress their firing positions from small arms. In this operation, 10 special forces people died, due to the fact that the militants at the school started shooting at children, and the special forces covered them with their bodies. From the tank and the RPO they shot at the militants who were in the premises where there were no people, and they did it at point-blank range when approaching the building.
And during the terrorist attack on Dubrovka, in general, hardly anyone would have survived if they had not used the gas that lulled the suicide bombers with bombs.

Does somebody prosecute whole police, when few officers make mistakes? Do you even thought abouat how many crimes was prevented by FSB? As a Russian law student, I know, that guys, who work in FSB are really hard-working, strong and highly qualified lawyers. They work with only the worst crimes (hard and super hard, like a terrorism, genocide, etc). In Russian administrative law, we have an insubordination Principe for some parts of government work. As an illustration, FSB often work in pair with police (who subordinate MVD - internal deals ministry), Sledstveniy Komitet (Iustitia Ministry), Tax Agency etc. We have too difficult and complex system, to have permanent problems with FSB work. Watch Russian youtube. Some part of our bloggers demonize CIA and FBI too, but to be honest - we don't care about that special services). Personally, I feel respect to the special forces, services and agency officers of every contry. Because the main work of all that guys - not international "evil deals", hah. They do a lot for their contry, internal. KGB, FSB, FBI...similar functions, similar work, similar degree of respect. Briefly speaking - FSB - good!

9:05 hostages who was not shot by terrorists died because of extreme hurry of operation (hostages were on a werge of death at the time of storm) and lack of coordination betwen paramedics and FSB. Turns out that uncontious hostages was supposed to be put down only on the sides to survive with extremely oppressed breathing due to used gas nature. Almost all of the people who was put down on their backs by paramedics died to suffocation. Paramedics was not given instructions on how to stabilize patients and this led to tragedy, if only they knew what to do this operation would be one of the greatest succeses in history of hostage rescue
9:34 storming of Beslan school was spontanious, spetsnaz forced to act after one of explosive devices inside school detonated and childrens start to run out while terrorist shot in their back. Oficers had to litteraly cower childrens with their own bodies and rush the building. In no war to this day so many spetsnaz Alpha and Vympel members died at the same day (for example- all 3 storming groups commander have been killed in action), if this would happend how autor describes it there will be no such big losses of spetsnaz(there were only 28 terrorists or 32 by other sources yet they managed to kill 10 of most trained and equipped special forces officers of Russia). Tanks was used after there was no more hostages inside to finish off pinned down terrorists in one of the wings of building.
You may dont like that they support "regime" but paint them as ghouls without any regard to other humans lifes is hypocrisy. Any country trains their enforcers to rate hostages life higher than their own, only exeption so far i saw in horrific performance of Uvalde police officers.

Blame is not on operatives, i`m sure that if they were given orders to preserve as much as possible lives of civilians they would obey. It is looks to me that operatives was given orders to act harsh and brutal, how moral\immoral for them to follow such orders is not to me to judge, im not a US citizen, and even if i was i would put most of blame on politician and high rancing officers of FBI\ATF who gave such orders for political gains or some other reasons. Uvalde is still in my opinion much worse scenario- childrens were obviosly hostages and obviosly in danger and yet cops hesitated or were afraid to act, they should be lined up and decimated after this.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation
    FSB
Russian: Федеральная служба безопасности Российской Федерации
tr. Federal'naya sluzhba bezopasnosti Rossiyskoy Federatsii
It is the principal security agency of Russia and the main successor agency to the Soviet Union's KGB; its immediate predecessor was the Federal Counterintelligence Service (FSK) which was reorganized into the FSB in 1995.
The three major structural successor components of the former KGB that remain administratively independent of the FSB are the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the Federal Protective Service (FSO), and the Main Directorate of Special Programs of the President of the Russian Federation (GUSP).

I still don’t know what the police wanted, but the police were more scared than me at the time.

No terrorist bombs, just russians using explosives from OUTSIDE to kill children inside, the Shmel is a grenade launching flamethrower, it was what burned the kids, some of the children surviving initial attack were rounded up in a cafeteria and burned there. Years later, russia would do the same with Syrian and Ukrainian children.
