You are spot on..."Common Sense isn't too Common!" After 13 years of teaching, I take on as little as possible, there's just too much work in being a teacher. I'm so sorry about the loss of your mom. I still have my mom but my dad passed away when I was much younger and it is a huge loss. I've spent WAY TOO MUCH MONEY on my classes...no more!

I think we have a similar approach to classroom management. For years, I thought "I need to be stricter" but in reality, that isn't me. What I've learned over the years, is that I set procedures and expectations at the beginning of the year, around holidays, and also more around the end of the year...it works. I simply look at my kids with my eyebrows raised, and they check themselves. Now, the younger the group, the more training I do at the beginning of the year...also, depending on the group of kids...my longest time was the first 8 weeks of school with a particular 5th grade class! However, it allows me to be myself for the rest of the school year. Also, my class can be loud...and guess what, that is okay. Kids that talk more are learning more..truth! They are more engaged, they want to be "there," they help each other...but when my voice comes on..theirs are off. Good luck! Love watching your journey.

    Jamala,
I don't know about being stricter, I will say be more consistent in your classroom management plan.
Whatever classroom management plan that you have if you have a sub pass that along for them to use too.
Also, seek parental support and assistance. When they see their parents on the same page as the teacher working together there is like nowhere for them to run.
Take it from a former autistic sped school student, there maybe some students who may see you as mean even sometimes but when the academic pressure is off at the end of the school year you want to have made a good impression on them so that they have a good overall impression on you despite school being school if you will, and sometimes to where it may lock down the students too far and even during the school year when the pressure is on they may go to some places emotionally and end up saying some things that they don't really mean to out of frustration and anger and that path to relief for them.
With that said, death is going to happen to us all one day. Life is not meant to last forever. It's all about when our time comes how we want to leave out and what we want to have left behind.
Meanwhile, Please take some time to rest Mrs. Francois and be Jamala Francois for a bit.
    - Dwight

I am so sorry about your mom's passing. Blessings to you this day! Could you tell me where you bought the math alphabet on your wall? I saw this in one of your previous videos.
