These Late Night Lessons totally resonate with me. I started playing in the 70's. Watching this I almost feel like I'm back in that garage with my buds. Rock on...

Def Tones, one of the greats. Proving you don't have to have guitar solos to have great rock music. Would love to see you cover more great bands like Jane's Addiction, helmet, Melvin's,Tool. Grew up with the 80's metal but moved on from most of it when bands like these elevated music to much more substance and rocked so much harder. Thanks DB, love your channel 🤘

I find that Deftones and Fear Factory have some of the most amazing choices of chords and arrangements . It's really what makes them stick out.

What I love almost as much as your knowledge, is the fact you just make music. Compared to other channels you focus very little on gear and production. The window dressings... sure that stuff is fun but in the context of this channel and the information you present... it has no place. And I love that you embrace that fact. Never change.

I love when metal tunes use odd chord shapes. Spread triads can really help with that too.

Detones are amazing! Read an interview with SC after white pony was released... he said the music is supposed to sound on the verge of tearing apart. Perfect description.
Chinos voice and melody writing is unparalleled.

I love all types of Rock music - classic 70s rock, the 80s 90s and even nu metal and more modern bands like Gojira mastadon and other metal acts - its all just music ladies and gents like what you like lol,,, Deftones have some great tunes in the past. BTW the new single OHMS is very cool tune, not as heavy as some of their other stuff and a bit more atmosphere vibe but VERY cool.... It says alot when a band was lumped in with Numetal of the late 90s and 25 years later can bring a fresh and kick ass sound, thats impressive.....
... BTW Keep up the GREAT work David, your site is just kick ass and awesome, thanks for everything you do its informative and fun with a chill vibe, thanks again.......

Yea, the quest for what's "best" is utter nonsense because art is an aesthetic, an opinion.
_"Music is a communication, not a competition."_ Not sure who said it first, but it's the simple truth.

at 7:51 when you describe the 'partial chord' with the root, 5th and maj7th, the bass actually fills in the 3rd of the Amaj7 chord (c#) on the open string (tuned down 1.5 steps) to complete the chord.

Thanks Dave. This definitely resonated with me. One of the bands that got me into playing. Stephen has very atmosphere-ic sound with big chords .... He does use them alot but so melodic and groovy..... Especially for drop tuning and more strings (Korn definitely influenced me too) although I would love to hear about your interview with ANIMALS AS LEADERS !?!?!! As to see a chord breakdown. As they write superb music. I believe most you can do with a six.... Please. Thank you. Great session

I remember the guitarist was a skateboarder who got hit by a car in CA.

He was hurt badly, and was paid off by the wealthy woman who hit him.

      to play.
